In A Day That's Lacking Restraint

In a day that's lacking in restraint.
We need to be wholesome and quaint.
The Master has called out, “repent”.
To proclaim this- prophets were sent.
We can be washed and found worthy.
We can have hope on our journey.
Spread the news to all upon the land.
The Kingdom of God is now at hand.
We can change and come unto Christ,
Thus avoiding a sad tragic life.
The prize of joy is worth the price!
For those who are swamped much in sin.
The gospel life helps us change from within.

What does it mean to repent?
Does it mean we feel some regret?
Our sorrow must be so sincere.
Each patient step must include prayer.
The first step is recognition.
Then there's remorse unto confession.
We confess to all those we offend.
Though we're sincere, this in not the end.
The next step is restitution.
We can restore without spite's friction.
We'll show faith to this fruition.
For all those who are swamped much in sin.
The gospel life brings a change from within.

When Jesus said we must repent.
With soul and mind is what He meant.
To not repeat, He said there's more.
For we've eternal life in store.
We're asked to change even our breath,
Thus avoiding a spiritual death.
When we repent we are converted.
Our whole being is then diverted.
We repent in thought and in deed.
The fruit of repentance is so sweet!
With the love of God as our treat.
For all those who are swamped much in sin.
The gospel life builds us from deep within.

Repentance is not easy
But the prize is worth the price
The steps may be humbling
But they bring you close to Christ

The Healer of Spiritual Wounds

Do not reopen a wound
Jesus, Himself, died to heal
Through repentance life can resume
Renewed unto hope to feel

This is evident inside the temple
Where your blessings are restored
To assume anew, full blessings
All because of our Lord

[Verse 1] Do not reopen a wound Jesus, Himself, died to heal Through repentance life can resume Renewed unto hope to feel This is evident inside the temple Where your blessings are restored To assume anew, full blessings All because of our Lord [Pre-Chorus] All is forgotten The old is gone We turn again And lift this song [Chorus] All is forgotten Praise God anew All is forgotten For His Only Begotten Who did only what He could do [Verse 2] May we have more pure eyes To see others as He does May we have tongues of grace To encircle prayers of love May we walk with mercy May we speak it out May we keep that holy Healing all around [Pre-Chorus] All is forgotten The old is gone We turn again And lift this song [Chorus] All is forgotten Praise God anew All is forgotten For His Only Begotten Who did only what He could do [Bridge] Renewed unto hope Restored in His light Open our hands And make us right Pure eyes, pure eyes Tongues of grace Pure eyes, pure eyes Lead us in love [Chorus] All is forgotten Praise God anew All is forgotten For His Only Begotten Who did only what He could do

Thoughts from Elder Jeffrey R Holland's book or talk.  I don't remember

 resume
  • verb:   assume anew Example: "Resume a title"
  • verb:   take up or begin anew
  • verb:   return to a previous location or condition

Journey to Psalms 23- Hillside Prayer

When all you've built is gone

So heavy is that fall

Your steps are heavy, your sighs long

And you care not where you walk

You stand upon the hillside

And recall your humble start

How the spirit was your guide

And how honest was your heart

How simple was your life

How beautiful your thoughts

You grew in truth and light

Your prayers of praise, they taught

Then you became prideful

Your faith and strength so praised!

You forgot to be watchful!

The lusts of your eyes raised!

A woman already taken

Bathing on a rooftop

The opportunity was given

You filled her womb before long

You made arrangements

For the husband still away

To be first front in battle

Knowing he'd be killed that day

The consequence took time

Your first born took what he wanted

And dishonored his half sister

You turned a blind eye and left her haunted

Another son took revenge

And killed this violator

Then fled for three years, left

Your trust he would wait for

Then the trumpet blasts

His conspiracy came

All you see is your past

And all you feel is shame

So here on the hillside

Rent with ash upon your head

Repentant, here you write

Being of the spirit, led

Thou Lord art my Shepherd

I can rest in green pastures

Where, Thy voice is heard

Beside the still safe waters

Thou hast ever been with me

Through shadows, pride and death

Past evil, I refused to see

Comforted, I take a peace filled breath

Verse 1] When all you've built is gone So heavy is that fall Your steps are slow, your sighs long And you care not where you walk You stand upon the hillside And recall your humble start How the spirit was your guide And how honest was your heart How simple was your life How beautiful your thoughts You grew in truth and light Your prayers of praise, they taught [Pre-Chorus] Then you became prideful Your faith and strength so praised! Linking King David's pride, adultery with Bathsheba, murder of Uriah, family tragedies, and eventual repentance to the themes of Psalm 23.
Psalm 23's chorus—"The Lord is my shepherd"—portrays God's guidance through moral failure, shadows, and shame, ending in comfort and peace.

Our Dear Father, We Cry Aloud

When the people, fearing God, cried out with one voice....Were they singing?
Was someone signing and they were saying the words in unison?  I do sense that the latter is what happened.

Heavenly Father, We cry aloud,
Lamenting our sins, with one voice.
Please forgive us our carnal state.
To speak Thy Son's name, we rejoice.

Oh have mercy and apply the
Atoning blood of Christ.
Help us to be more repentant,
With our hearts more purified.

May we be filled with Thy spirit,
For a remission of our sins.
May Thy mercy shine upon us.
With grace. Please forgive us and cleanse.

We feel less that the earth
Even  less than unwelcome dust
Help us realize our worth
The potential within each of us

Verse 1] Heavenly Father, we cry aloud Lamenting our sins, with one voice Please forgive us our carnal state To speak Thy Son's name, we rejoice [Pre-Chorus] Oh have mercy And apply The Atoning blood of Christ Help us be more repentant With our hearts more purified [Chorus] Please forgive us And cleanse us Please forgive us And cleanse us May Thy mercy shine upon us With grace, with grace [Verse 2] May we be filled with Thy spirit For a remission of our sins We lean in low We come again And ask You to begin [Pre-Chorus] Oh have mercy And apply The Atoning blood of Christ Help us be more repentant With our hearts more purified [Chorus] Please forgive us And cleanse us Please forgive us And cleanse us May Thy mercy shine upon us With grace, with grace [Bridge] We feel less than the earth Even less than unwelcome dust Help us realize our worth The potential within each of us [Final Chorus] Please forgive us And cleanse us Please forgive us And cleanse us May Thy mercy shine upon us With grace, with grace

Mosiah  Chapter 4

King Benjamin continues his address—Salvation comes because of the Atonement—Believe in God to be saved—Retain a remission of your sins through faithfulness—Impart of your substance to the poor—Do all things in wisdom and order. About 124 B.C.

1 And now, it came to pass that when king Benjamin had made an end of speaking the words which had been delivered unto him by the angel of the Lord, that he cast his eyes round about on the multitude, and behold they had fallen to the earth, for the fear of the Lord had come upon them.

2 And they had viewed themselves in their own carnal state, even less than the dust of the earth. And they all cried aloud with one voice, saying: O have mercy, and apply the atoning blood of Christ that we may receive forgiveness of our sins, and our hearts may be purified; for we believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who created heaven and earth, and all things; who shall come down among the children of men.

Sinful and Forgetful? Be Repentful

The sinful mind is sick,
Selfish, and alone
There is naught to prick
The heart that's turned to stone

Daily, complaints are swirled
In a spiral of woe is me
Ever angry at the world
With no bonds made lovingly

Oh, how there is a hardened shell
That to hug...the return is stiff
If there is love felt, who can tell?
As all they hold to...are long past tiffs

The sinful soul is sick
Dark contention is real
But Christ to the center, can prick
Pray for your loved one to heal!

Who will remind them of who they are?
And how to appreciate life, too?
For they were once, but a rising star
Full of hope... all shimmering new

It is ours to offer love
And build a circle of trust
Offering hope to see above
The bitter dried up crust

It is ours to believe and pray
For all who are having a hard time
Ever we can hold our light showing the way
Unto finding purpose in God's design

Time is an Unknown

Time is an unknown for us all

At any moment our end can call

An accident or our body shuts down

Eventuality will be shown

Too, repentance calls for each

The opportunity awaits

The Lord is ever within reach

Till that unknown time...then, it's too late

All the while there's missed chances

Of  finding who you are meant to be

And loving experiences

That offer glimpses of eternity

What a precious gift is repentance

To come to know our Redeemer

To be freed and given a fresh chance

To be saved - atoned for, indeed

Please look long into the mirror

And see the love the Lord has for you

Imagine Him inviting, nearer

Offering what only repentance can do

Sanctification where you are clean anew

1 Corinthians 6:2 For he said, I have answered you in an acceptable time, and I have helped you on the day of salvation: behold, now is the acceptable time; and behold now is the day of salvation.

    Wrapped in Forgiveness

    Imagine having unpaid tennants
    Damaging your precious home
    That is us without repentance
For Satan moves in to ravage what's owned

    The greatest thing we possess
    Is our ability to choose
And satan hopes we'll not notice
That when we sin there's so much we lose

Imagine having unpaid tennants Damaging your precious home

    That is us without repentance

For Satan moves in to ravage what's owned

    The greatest thing we possess

    Is our ability to choose

And satan hopes we'll not notice

That when we sin there's so much we lose

    The invitation to repent

    Is rarely for chastisement

But a plea to turn a life around

Where open loving arms are found

    Imagine the Lord's merciful embrace

    Warmly encircling, holy, and safe

His loving arms ever out stretched and open

Offering a higher way of life to hope in

Those living riotously can change and begin

To be spiritually wrapped in forgiveness within

No matter how selfish, how forsaken the sin

Our Savior is eager that we be forgiven

Who'd not run against the wind and even swim upstream

To come unto Christ where the gospel fruit is then seen

Thus, He who humbly submits and asks for the Father's will

Can know, feel, and find a peace that's sweetly still

Since repentance is a journey, not a one-time event

We petition daily and weekly partake of the sacrament

There to check on our progress as though on a mountain peak

Where we can see life more clearly through the spirit that we seek

Oft still to the repentant, Godly sorrow remains

To remind us never again to do what truly pains

Ever as we're laboring against the devil's tightening bands

We can find Him who has graven us in the palms of His hands

Repentance always means brighter days lie ahead

Midst a residue of past mistakes filtering in our head

Forsaking our sins requires restoration and time

Unto the healing peace of conscience as the anguish subsides

Let us take counsel and in good works be about

Putting off the natural man who would that we doubt

Let us be unselfish, honest, and more pure

Being patient and kind that our spirituality endure

Let us ever hear the bidding of our Lord calling our name

And pray that each in our family will in deed do the same

Ever we may know our Savior infinitely understands

And reaches out to us offering His sure healing hands

Seeking Forgiveness Aligns Us to Christ

Seeking forgiveness aligns us to Christ
As a repentant heart is mindful of His grace
And we recognize how abundantly we've been blessed
Here, we see He refines us in quiet sacred ways!

    A Mess

    I only need to know
    When I terribly mess up
    Repentance is the plan
    Christ's atonement is enough.

    The Song of Redeeming Love

An image of Christ and Mary at the tomb, combined with a quote by Elder David A. Bednar: “One of the … purposes of our mortal existence is to be spiritually changed … through the Atonement.”
    The tears begin again
    Confirming what I know
    That Jesus is my friend
His love for me does show

The bands of death, He broke
A captive, I am no more
The chains of Hell, He loosed
    Ever, peace, He can restore

As I hold to His word
He keeps me safe from sin
My prayers, through Him, are heard
    He speaks to me within

Humbly, I can be His hands
And lift, those who've fallen, up
I can serve on foreign lands
That they, too, might with Him sup

I can raise my voice and sing
    The song of redeeming love
His love, peace, and joy to bring
    To light from Heaven, above!

    Repentance is Real

    Repentance is real
You are freed to move on
    The spirit does heal
    And sings redemption's song

My husband had worked with a wonderful man.  He warned him that an idea that would prove profitable was also illegal.  Time passed.  My husband graduated.  This wonderful man who was my husband's boss told him it was time to pursue his career and let him "go".  This he did so he could be free to do this illegal thing with funds he had control over.  It got the better of him.  Eventually, the scheme was discovered anyway.  A trial occurred. My husband added input. Several decades passed.  We were at the temple for two of our son's endowment.  The old boss was the assigned temple worker!  He grabbed my husband into a big hug and said, "All is forgiven!" ( Did he mean he forgave Rick?)  Now I understand.  He was saying he was completely healed, spiritually.  For someone who was indirectly harmed by him, (loss of employment) it takes a while to process. But, we are sure this all happened for a reason. To teach this principle,

    Doctrine and Covenants 64:10

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints
Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet to the elders of the Church, ... 7 Nevertheless, he has sinned; but verily I say unto youI, the Lordforgive sins unto those ... 10 I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgivebut of you it is required to forgive all men. ....

    so:
"What does matter is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, suffered “pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind” so “that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people” [Alma 7:11, 12]. … That is what really matters and what should give all of us renewed hope and a determination to try one more time, because He has not forgotten us. …"  Elder Allen D. Haynie

    Give Him one more try
    Believe you are not forgotten
    Please do not deny
    Yourself of being forgiven

    Penitent

    Look for that humble check
    The opening of the heart
The break in the stiff neck
    The willingness to restart

    pen·i·tent (n)
    1. 1.
feeling or showing sorrow and regret for having done wrong; repentant.
      "a penitent expression"

    Try!

Though you choose to go awry
Your sinful ways won't shut Him out
    Patiently He asks, "Again, TRY!"
    Repentance is what He's about

    I love this truth!

"Even if we’ve been a conscious, deliberate sinner or have repeatedly faced failure and disappointment, the moment we decide to try again, the Atonement of Christ can help us."
—Dale G. Renlund, "Latter-day Saints Keep on Trying"
    Topics: Atonement

Picture the most action packed movie.  The good guy never gives up.  He gets bloody.  The odds stack up against Him. You can't imagine how he will get out of the mess. With the Savior, you can be that guy! The atonement is there to get us home, safe,  no matter what, if we let it!

Lucifer the Fallen Angel- Words Describing You Now

Lucifer, a son of promise and might,
put up a fight and called darkness for light!
In utter rebellion to our Father's plan,
he opposed agency and sought to destroy man!

He fell from glory as a fallen angel
And in front of each he works to dangle
Anything to cause us to be fallen too
and if he can't do that, there's more he will do!

    Confusion, revenge, anger, hatred, distraction,
    addictions, obsessions, control, despair, depression,
    pride, contention, rebellion, jealousy and doubt;
whatever he can stir up so darkness is about!

Repentance is our cure for pain
Turn to our savior, your soul to gain
Live in the Light help others too
Change your desires, and good works do

Do all that you can to carry light
Adding to drops of oil to your lamp
Go to the temple it is ever bright
Be an open book with nothing to hide

    Clarity, compassion, joy and delight
Freedom to focus, burdens made light
humble, a servant, standing tall and true
All of these words are now describing you

When We Repent We Are Blessed

As far as East is to West,
when we repent we are blessed
There are angels on all sides.
If we seek them, they'll not rest!

    He's Been There Before

He's Been There Before by Elder Troy Whittle
The alarm bell rings at 6:30, I stumble to my feet
I grab my companions bedding and pull off his sheets
A groan fills the room, is it already time to arise?
It seems like just a second ago I was able to shut my eyes

The morning activities follow- study, prayer and such
When it's time to leave the apartment, you feel you haven't accomplished much
"We have a super day planned," My comp. says with a grin
I lowly utter a faithless breath, "Yeah, if anyone lets us in."

With the word of God and my faithful Schwinn, we ride off in the street prepared to
Face another day of humidity and heat
It's 9:30 in the evening, the day is almost through
My champion and I are riding home not accomplishing what we thought to do

We ride up to the mailbox, hoping to receive a lot
Only to look inside and hear my echo reverberate "air Box"
We go up to our apartment, the day is now complete
The only thing to show for our work is a case of blistery feet

It's past 10:30 p.m. My companion is fast asleep,
Silence engulfs me all about and I begin to weep
In the midst of sadness, I kneel down to pray
I need to talk to father, but I'm not sure what to say

"Oh, Father" I begin, "What happened to us today?
I thought we'd teach somebody, but everyone was away
    My hands, my aching hands- worn, hurt and beat;
If our area was any smaller, we'd have knocked every street"

"Why on missions are the days so much alike?
The only difference about today was the flat tire on my bike
Will you send some cooler weather? The heat is killing me
I sweat so bad, it gets in my eyes, it's very hard to see"

"Why do I have to wear a helmet, isn't your protection enough?
People always laugh at me, and call me stupid stuff
Please send us investigators so I may give them what they lack
I want to give them Books of Mormon, the weight of them hurts my back"

"And what about my family: They don't have much to say
I'm sick of not hearing from home day after day after day
Oh Father, Why am I here am I just wasting time?
Sometimes I just want to go home, I'm sorry but that's on my mind"

"My companion, Heavenly Father, what are you giving me?
"The way he rides his bicycle, I don't think he can see
Now you have it, I can't go on, I don't know what to do
That, my Father in Heaven, is the prayer I have for you"

My prayer now finished, I stand up, then jump right into bed
I need my rest for tomorrow, we have another long day ahead
Sleep start to overtake me, I seem to drift away
Then it seems a vision takes me to another time in another day

I'm standing alone on the hill. The view is very nice
A man walks to wards me and says, "My name is Jesus Christ"
Tears of joy well up inside, I fall down to His feet
"Arise," He states, "Follow me to the shade. You and I need to speak"

My attention's towards my Savior, total and complete
He says, "Your mission is similar of what happened to me
I understand how you feel, I know what you're going through
In fact, it would be fair to say I've felt the same as you"

"I even know how you felt when no one listened to you
At times I felt not quite sure what else I could do
I know you don't like to ride a bicycle, for you a car would be sweet
Just remember the donkey I rode wasn't equipped with 21 speeds"

"I understand you don't like sweating, in fact it's something you hate
I remember when I sweat blood from ev’ry pore, oh the agony was great!
I see you don't like your companion- you'd rather have someone else-
I once had a companion named Judas who sold my life for wealth"

"It's hard to wear a helmet and have people make fun of you
I remember when they put thorns on my head and called me King of the Jews
So you feel burdened down by the weight of your pack
I recall how heavy the cross was when they slammed it on my back"

"Your hands hurt from tracting and knocking on doors all day
I guess when they pounded nails into mine, I ached in a similar way
It's hard not to hear from home when your family's not there to see
I lost communication on the cross and cried, "Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

"We have a lot in common, but there's a difference between us you see
I endured to the end and finished my mission, so follow and do like me"
He embraced me with His arms and His light filled me with His love
With tears in my eyes I watched as He went back to the Father above

I stood with awe and wonder when a beep rang in my head
I listened and heard the alarm, then realized I was in my bed
My companion let out a groan, "6:30 already, no way!"
I sat up and said, "Come on, I'll even carry your scriptures today!"

No matter what we go through, when we feel we can't take more
Just stop and think about Jesus Christ, He's been there before

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

These poems are my own thoughts and impressions as I study the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints

I encourage you to read from the Book of Mormon and the standard works, and listen to modern day prophets, also, that your mind and heart might be touched.
