The Miracle of the Holy Bible

The Miracle of the Holy Bible

Four thousand years of sacred history
The Bible was preserved by holy men
It gives account of Christ's words and ministry
They are found in the old and new testament

They were protected through the dark ages
Through the countless conflicts of generations
Yet, still testifies of Christ in its pages
Though there'd been many hands and translations

We owe so much for each man's inspired words
We owe so much to the many martyrs
Who served all their lives and made record
And, too, we revere those called the reformers

God does direct what His scriptures should say
He's whom we place our trust and confidence
We are blessed to have the bible today
And, it's not by chance or coincidence

Here we learn of the teachings of Jesus
Here love and obedience can increase
Honest study of holy words help us
On our quest towards happiness and peace

Tens of millions find God in the Bible
Here they find truth to feed and guide their faith
Their dream to have freedoms, were not idle
They saught to be led by God and not fate

When the bible went into the household
It helped each man to search which doctrines were true
Now more light and wisdom can and does unfold
Influenced by one who asked what to do

Prompted by words he read in the bible
He went alone to a grove, to God beseech
Now what happened next, there's no denial
God and Jesus came to Joseph to teach

Without the bible, where would mankind be?
It led Joseph, who was schooled for manhood
From golden plates, he began translating
Then God's church was restored and, too, priesthood

Now we've the most correct of any book
For it was preserved and protected also
Translated by seers, he used to look
With this companion works, the church does grow!

Now, we've another testament of Christ
As the world grows in knowledge of all kinds
We're thankful our father hears our cries
That to every humble seeker- truth he finds

The bible is a pillar of our faith
And is a powerful witness of the Savior
It witnesses anew, and God may be praised
For the Latter- Days, we have help to endure!

Blessed are we for the young Joseph Smith, his family bible and James 1:5

The Bible is a Springboard

The Bible is a springboard
For leaps of faith and action
Here we can find our Lord
And purpose with expansion

When we've faith, then comes miracles
King James proved this is so
Translating its books and chronicles
That all might read and know

In James 1:5 we learn
We can pray and receive
If in prayer we turn
And have faith to believe

We can pray to know
That the gospel is true
With faith we can follow
In His footsteps, too

James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

upbraid: verb, express criticism towards

I Glory in Plainness

I glory in plainness
And in gospel truths
I glory in Jesus
For my soul He moves

In the pursuit of intelligence
With what should I fill my mind?
The hallmark of our existence
Is to increase in light.. ours to find

The hand of God can be seen
In all the fields of learning
If to Him one humbly leans
And to His Word we are turning

Pondering the 13th Article of Faith, Joseph Smith
James 1:5 and signing up for a BYU Independent Study class - a Citizen's Guide to American Politics- In the welcoming comments it states that while growing in knowledge, if we're honest and trustworthy- following the model of the Savior- we grow spiritually stronger, our character is developed, and our intelligence is enlarged.
http://ce.byu.edu/is/site/courses/free.cfm

2Nephi 31:3 For my soul delighteth in plainness; for after this manner doth the Lord God work among the children of men. For the Lord God giveth light unto the understanding; for he speaketh unto men according to their language, unto their understanding.

D&C 93: 36 The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.

D&C 42: 68 Therefore, he that lacketh wisdom, let him ask of me, and I will give him liberally and upbraid him not.
JS-H 1: 11 While I was laboring under the extreme difficulties caused by the contests of these parties of religionists, I was one day reading the Epistle of James, first chapter and fifth verse, which reads: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

[Verse 1] I glory in plainness In gospel truths I glory in Jesus For my soul He moves In the pursuit of learning What fills my restless mind? The hallmark of our being Is to seek that light we find [Chorus] Glory in plainness Glory in truth Glory in Jesus Who’s shaping my youth All of my questions Fall into place When I see His fingerprints On every field of grace (oh) [Verse 2] The hand of God is moving Through every book and line In numbers Stars And stories His patterns still align If to Him I’m leaning In every page I turn His Spirit lights the lecture And sanctifies my yearn [Chorus] Glory in plainness Glory in truth Glory in Jesus Who’s shaping my youth All of my questions Fall into place When I see His fingerprints On every field of grace [Bridge] Fill my mind with wisdom Teach my heart to see Every honest venture Brings me back to Thee [Chorus] Glory in plainness Glory in truth Glory in Jesus The way The life The proof All of my seeking Leads to Your light For the hand of God is guiding Every step into the bright

When Stuck in a Rut

When stuck in a rut
How can we get out?
Get rid of the "but"
And question each doubt

Explore all our motives
And get rid of each fear
Change "I can'ts" to "what if's"
And see what appears

It's time for learning...
A new way... to do
Powerful yearnings
Give strength to follow through

Accept a suggestion
Gain new information
Explore and re-question
Insights flow in formation

More than anything else
Recognize but this fact
God knows our best self
And gives the strength that we lack

A young boy of fourteen
Believed this very thing
When to the scriptures he leaned
He saw heavenly beings

His questioning gave proof
That our lives have purpose
And mountains can move
When faith's found strong within us

"More than anything else, I want you to recognize that learning to ask meaningful questions really can change your life. This was never better exemplified than when a young, fourteen-year-old boy accepted the familiar invitation from James - "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God" - and decided to ask God which church he should join. That single question not only changed his life forever but also changed the world. Truly, questions can be powerful agents of change. So go ahead - start asking for change in your life!"

Asking for Change
Wendy Watson Nelson
LDS Living Magazine
January 5, 2010

"Questions can be powerful! They can help us to see, feel, think, and do things differently. In fact, I have found that one of the most effective ways to change your life is to simply change the questions you ask yourself, your friends, and the Lord. "

Gaining a Testimony of God the Father; His Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost

I ponder continually
Of God and His Son
I've a testimony
How these two are one

People o'er all the world
Do struggle to know
Who's our Savior and Lord?
Does knowledge still flow?

Oft the Exemplar sent prayers
To His Heavenly Father
And the scriptures declare
Of their love for each other

Tender obedience
And glorious trust
United as one in stance
And in their love for us

The Father and Son are real
As two distinct beings
I can know what I feel
And that truth- I'm receiving

If any lack wisdom
They can search in prayer
To the humble, light will come
James 1:5 makes this clear

A witness comes from heaven
To teach us of the Son
And to Joseph Smith was given
This pattern for how it's done

First we must have a desire
That quickens our soul
Then to pray, we retire
With obedience our goal

We pray in the name of
Our Dear Savior, Jesus
As our mediator above
He has proved that He loves us

If you truly believe
With all of your heart
Then in surety you'll receive
And this is only the start...

What has been shown to me
Can be made known to you
The Holy Ghost is the key
To reveal what is true

Elder Robert D. Hales
Ensign, May 2008, 29
Gaining a Testimony of God the Father;
His Son, Jesus Christ;
and the Holy Ghost

Stance: More general:attitude, position, posture
More specific:attention, erectness, uprightness

James 1: 5
5 If any of you lack wisdom,
let him ask of God, that giveth
to all men liberally, and upbraideth not;
and it shall be given him.

He's Been There Before

He's Been There Before by Elder Troy Whittle
The alarm bell rings at 6:30, I stumble to my feet
I grab my companions bedding and pull off his sheets
A groan fills the room, is it already time to arise?
It seems like just a second ago I was able to shut my eyes

The morning activities follow- study, prayer and such
When it's time to leave the apartment, you feel you haven't accomplished much
"We have a super day planned," My comp. says with a grin
I lowly utter a faithless breath, "Yeah, if anyone lets us in."

With the word of God and my faithful Schwinn, we ride off in the street prepared to
Face another day of humidity and heat
It's 9:30 in the evening, the day is almost through
My champion and I are riding home not accomplishing what we thought to do

We ride up to the mailbox, hoping to receive a lot
Only to look inside and hear my echo reverberate "air Box"
We go up to our apartment, the day is now complete
The only thing to show for our work is a case of blistery feet

It's past 10:30 p.m. My companion is fast asleep,
Silence engulfs me all about and I begin to weep
In the midst of sadness, I kneel down to pray
I need to talk to father, but I'm not sure what to say

"Oh, Father" I begin, "What happened to us today?
I thought we'd teach somebody, but everyone was away
My hands, my aching hands- worn, hurt and beat;
If our area was any smaller, we'd have knocked every street"

"Why on missions are the days so much alike?
The only difference about today was the flat tire on my bike
Will you send some cooler weather? The heat is killing me
I sweat so bad, it gets in my eyes, it's very hard to see"

"Why do I have to wear a helmet, isn't your protection enough?
People always laugh at me, and call me stupid stuff
Please send us investigators so I may give them what they lack
I want to give them Books of Mormon, the weight of them hurts my back"

"And what about my family: They don't have much to say
I'm sick of not hearing from home day after day after day
Oh Father, Why am I here am I just wasting time?
Sometimes I just want to go home, I'm sorry but that's on my mind"

"My companion, Heavenly Father, what are you giving me?
"The way he rides his bicycle, I don't think he can see
Now you have it, I can't go on, I don't know what to do
That, my Father in Heaven, is the prayer I have for you"

My prayer now finished, I stand up, then jump right into bed
I need my rest for tomorrow, we have another long day ahead
Sleep start to overtake me, I seem to drift away
Then it seems a vision takes me to another time in another day

I'm standing alone on the hill. The view is very nice
A man walks to wards me and says, "My name is Jesus Christ"
Tears of joy well up inside, I fall down to His feet
"Arise," He states, "Follow me to the shade. You and I need to speak"

My attention's towards my Savior, total and complete
He says, "Your mission is similar of what happened to me
I understand how you feel, I know what you're going through
In fact, it would be fair to say I've felt the same as you"

"I even know how you felt when no one listened to you
At times I felt not quite sure what else I could do
I know you don't like to ride a bicycle, for you a car would be sweet
Just remember the donkey I rode wasn't equipped with 21 speeds"

"I understand you don't like sweating, in fact it's something you hate
I remember when I sweat blood from ev’ry pore, oh the agony was great!
I see you don't like your companion- you'd rather have someone else-
I once had a companion named Judas who sold my life for wealth"

"It's hard to wear a helmet and have people make fun of you
I remember when they put thorns on my head and called me King of the Jews
So you feel burdened down by the weight of your pack
I recall how heavy the cross was when they slammed it on my back"

"Your hands hurt from tracting and knocking on doors all day
I guess when they pounded nails into mine, I ached in a similar way
It's hard not to hear from home when your family's not there to see
I lost communication on the cross and cried, "Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

"We have a lot in common, but there's a difference between us you see
I endured to the end and finished my mission, so follow and do like me"
He embraced me with His arms and His light filled me with His love
With tears in my eyes I watched as He went back to the Father above

I stood with awe and wonder when a beep rang in my head
I listened and heard the alarm, then realized I was in my bed
My companion let out a groan, "6:30 already, no way!"
I sat up and said, "Come on, I'll even carry your scriptures today!"

No matter what we go through, when we feel we can't take more
Just stop and think about Jesus Christ, He's been there before

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

These poems are my own thoughts and impressions as I study the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints

I encourage you to read from the Book of Mormon and the standard works, and listen to modern day prophets, also, that your mind and heart might be touched.
