A Dreamer- Hopeful After Fall

 

I grew up thinking

I could do anything

Each success linking

I had hope for what was coming

With great confidence 

And a smile on my face

Love brightened my dreams

With every sweet embrace

Then things took a turn

I couldn't do anything right

Soon sharp slaps started to burn

I hid bruises out of sight

As a dreamer

As one hopeful

I thought it would get better

But I felt empty

We'd forget to move on

I'd put a smile on my face

Then such pain!  I was wrong

I fell into a dark place

I grew scared

I felt alone

Such despair!

I lost all hope

I took the blame

It was my fault

I hid in shame

Then, the last fall

I could not hide

The nine one one call

The ambulance ride

Then counseling

My family was told

I learned I come from strong women

Their pasts brought light BOLD

As a dreamer

As one hopeful

I knew I would get better

Now my heart is full

We Live in a DARK World

We live in a dark world
Where abuse is felt and heard
But no matter what is hurled
Healing light comes through the Word

Say Something

If you witness an abuse
Know it will not go away
Unless you spread the news
and intervene in some way

It Is a Gift to Rejoice in our Labors

It is a gift to rejoice in our labors
As a bread winner in the home
About, one gaining superior favors
Soon to his family is unknown

For he put his career at the top
Of all his priorities
And when the dime called, he would hop
In a rut where he was found most at ease

In dictatorship a father did lead
Unto brutality unchecked
As the words "gentle persuasion" he did not heed

Satan can distort our role
Knowing our desire to lead and act
Till we're selfishly conquering a soul
As unrighteous dominion becomes a fact

But, I've said too much of "he"
For as feminist teachings do grow
A woman sought to preempt a leadership to "she"
As she though priesthood through her should flow

In this extreme manifestation
The mothering in the home was the cost
For from the very gestation
With abandonment her family was tossed

Children

There is in what we believe and teach
We counsel, command and even warn
That unto children our love should reach
To protect, care for, and also inform

In the Andes Mountains of Peru
During a sacrament meeting
A small boy, for food, came to peruse
But was shood away without a greeting

Yet, hopeful, the boy crept along the wall
Looking at me and then at the bread
Then he ran to my arms to sit still and small
In the speakers chair that stood at the head

What could he need more than bread crumbs?
A feeling of belonging and home?
And of something familiar as the spirit comes
There to know that all along, he'd not been alone?

For, though here sat an orphan, but a child
He had been created of God, with royal birth
And deserved an entrance through the main aisle
To be welcomed by arms that saw his great worth

And from that experience, I have gained
A place in my heart for that ragged boy
I see him oft in the faces of those who're pained
Whose eyes question "why?" and who know nought of joy

Oh, how great is the need to show God's love
And treat each child as though they're the best
Why would you want to abuse, neglect or shove
Our future leaders in whom we should invest?

Shall we not give them milk and then meat
And more- how to be nourished on their own?
Shall we not save for them, next to us a seat
And give them what they need the most until they are grown?

To Heal the Shattering Consequences of Abuse

Some matters are so sensitive
That they are seldom mentioned
To further the distress it gives
Is not at all the intention

There is light we all can feel
Through dark clouds to see much clearer
Tenderly, may you see and heal
As to you I hold a mirror

Unrighteous acts unto the weak
Have done what's beyond belief
It's of sexual abuse that I speak
And of the path towards relief

As moral agency's missused
The tides rise with vicious sin
The one who causes the abuse
Violates all that is within

To rectify all that's unjust
Our Savior felt all our pain
And, so, the perpetrator thus
Can repent, and resolve from blame

I testify that the victim
Can radiate happiness
As the atonement works within
T'wards a pure love that can be sensed

There's a journey to recovery
And an end to trepidation
As there's a blessed discovery
The atonement's an invitation

He alone can share the burden
As one exercises faith
And all that once had been hurled in
Is seen and the heart does not faint

But see's the true source of abuse
The reviler of God's laws
Has been the author to accuse
And get inside with his claws

Then, to blind alleys he leads
Where like him, one thinks life's unfair
And then his strategy he breds-
With tragedy comes despair

And in his manipulation
The victim loses faith and trust
And falls to alienation
Comfortless, the heart forms a crust

But, this is not the way to live
Alone with pain too hard to bear
It's so important to forgive
For a broken heart to repair

It will take a prayerful journey
For understanding of strife
And, oh how the abuser needs
To not be pious in this life...

Oh, how the abuser needs to stop
And seek to be rescued now
As sins make its way to the top
And before God we all we bow

For the healing of harm you've caused
Show the abused how you languish
For them show you've changed- not just paused
Recognize their mental anguish

Through the study of the atonement
And possibly also counseling
All can see why Christ alone was sent
And, oh the joy for this we should sing

Rise to the Stature of the Divine Within You

We know we shall reap
Whatsoever we sow
We promise, we keep
Wherever we go
We need not look far
To find gratitude
We share a bright star
For good attitude,
To live as we should

It’s time to rise
With stature divine,
With virtuous eyes,
And a wholesome mind
With love for the land
And the sky above

A struggling mother
