When In Truth I was Speaking- Walking on Eggshells- Raising a troubled teenager?

When in truth I was speaking
You supposed I must be mad
For otherwise you'd be angry
As that means you have been bad

When you've a consequence
We tiptoe around like a birds
I know to not speak thence
For as eggshells are our words

At a party you lost your phone
Should I be sorry? Your consumption abused
The choice was soley yours to own
But, if I say a word, then I'm the one accused

Why must I be so careful?
When it's you who broke the rules?
Well, I'm afraid I've been a fool
In the chosen parent school

With a friend, you lost your purse
Now, who is looking after you?
What more is there to rehearse
As my cautions are futile too

For you, I've hope and love- not pity
I'd show you a path that's straight
For I believe in your ability
Though it's not been shown as of late

May this truth cut just so deep
That with your heart you'll listen
And desire to covenant keep
That for joy this time, eyes will glisten

Verse 1]

We Must Be Born Again

May we sing to thee, Thy spiritually reborn?
Prepared and immersed, bless us and adorn.
We want to be more transparently clean.
Baptism transformed us to a new sheen

We want to show faith, and make use of priesthood
Till saturated, continually good.
Blessed as new creatures, from this mighty change,
Help thoughts and desires be pure, rearranged.

May we absorb truths, keep covenants that protect.
Seek line upon line, precept on precept.
Help us stay renewed, with motives refined.
Imperceptibly, with Thee more aligned.

May might, mind, and strength help us take on Christ’s name.
When we do much good, we're never the same.
Complete burial, total immersion.
When we are reborn, it's by conversion.

We speak from the soul with renewed energy,
To all in the land, the bond and the free.
Culminate our steps to change and transform.
Born to preach of Christ, we'll cry and forewarn.

Dear Father shed forth to all who now are true,
More gratitude for the Holy Ghost, too.
Help us feel it warn, when we are amiss.
We want to stay clean and sealed with promise.

THE SYMBOL OF OUR FAITH

They judged Him, as though He were just a Jew.
He forgave them for they “know not what they do”.
He died in pain, loneliness and misery,
Him, the greatest miracle in history.
Without Christ, what of all who've lived and died?
He arose in power, beauty and in life.
Why do ye seek the living among the dead?
He was not there; He'd risen as He had said.

The day dawned and became the new Sabbath.
So, all man could resurrect, as He now hath.
Although He hung on a cross that tragic day,
Keeping covenants is the symbol of our faith.
To a world wavering, there's a new witness.
We've a Book of Mormon and prophet's preface.
It tells of how Jesus came to our nation.
His love's to all man no matter their station.

As His Saints we've responsibility,
To live good lives to our best ability.
We're thankful He suffered the grave price.
From the tomb, He emerged, as our Living Christ.
Though skin worms may destroy this body,
We'll resurrect and then we'll have eyes to see.
Our Lord above, who's dressed in the brightest white.
He's our strength. He's our comfort. He is the Christ.

Burning Bright For Our Day

Burning bright for our day
We've the Gift of the Holy Ghost
Through the priesthood it is laid
Upon those baptized, it is bestowed

To show our change of heart
There are covenants we must make
And for our new life to start
We must weekly then re-partake

We've Christ's name and His spirit
And we've learned of Him much thus
We must be worthy to hear and bear it
We must strive to be like Jesus

The opportunity has been laid
For the greatest down to the least
To enter the gate, Christ has paid
And there is much on which to feast

The Holy Ghost will guide and teach
We're so blessed that in us it dwells
For deep in our hearts, it can reach
And from just one small seed it then swells

The Stick

A quality stick was found
And neatly smoothed all around
The laws of God were then engraved
To remind me, here they were saved

I cannot pick up but one end
For the laws of God do not bend
It's all or none.  I must repent
And hold it through the atonement.

The Engraving

Here lies upon my heart
My covenants with the Lord
My promises, my part
Of laws I have adored.

Engraved, they are deep-
A sacred part of me.
Honored, I safekeep
This opportunity

The Invitation to Make Covenants

He knocks at the door
Offering us more
If we but come to Him
There's so much in store

Come, hear the Master's call
Inviting us to dine
Individually one and all
Partaking of what's divine

(pondering that testament actually means covenant)
Old Testament, New Testament and the Doctrine and Covenants-
we are a covenant making people

American King James Version
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:
if any man hear my voice, and open the door,
I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Today As in the Days of Jesus

Today, as in the days of Jesus,
Ordinances are being performed.
Baptisms are washing away sins
And the Holy Ghost is being confirmed.

Now, with the whole Godhead on our side,
Covenants are made and go two ways.
Coming unto the fold, with sins denied,
We are witnesses for all of our days.

As we repent- weekly, thankfully,
The Holy Ghost guides us as a friend.
And we experience the Spirit poured so fully,
We are strengthened to lift and carry burdens.

Yes, to shoulder that pain
That weighs on others backs
So sweet the faith to gain
A smile one never lacks

Karen Ashton, “Sharing Time: Baptism, My First Covenant,” Friend, May 1997, 12

Ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light; Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in (Mosiah 18:8–9).

A covenant is a two-way promise between Heavenly Father and us, His children. The covenants He makes with us are sacred and holy. In them He promises glorious blessings to us. When we make covenants with Him, we show our love for Him and promise to keep His commandments.

The baptism covenant is the first gospel-ordinance covenant you make with Heavenly Father. When you make this sacred covenant, you show your love for Him. You also promise, or covenant, to take the name of Jesus Christ upon you, to always remember Him, and to keep His commandments. (See D&C 20:37.) You should also be willing to bear testimony of Him, and to love and serve Him by loving and serving others. (See Mosiah 18:8–10.)

After you make your baptismal covenant (are baptized), you are confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and are given the gift of the Holy Ghost. Heavenly Father always blesses you with His spirit when you keep your baptismal covenant. Each Sunday you can remember and renew your baptismal covenant as you partake of the sacrament.

With Increasing Need

With increasing need
That is crucial indeed
We seek out our Father
And His profound power

It is our commission
To be strong Christians
*Who, through tragedy, have hope
And can help others to cope

*Who overcome temptations
As with covenants they station
*Who are defenders of truth
And, who's faith will not uproot

What is the source of this power?
That sustains us when trials tower
It's our law abiding commitment
To keep all our Father's commandments

We then find through the covenants we enter
That Jesus Christ is at the center
Offering us hope that's everlasting
As to Him we keep our eyes casting

Such that continual blessings flow
And grant us with resources to act
As a steady supply of gifts show
As well as hidden treasure of fact

And along the path we find
That charity never fails
As we're nourished more in kind
With Christ-like attributes that swell

As our faith is made perfect in weakness
We face life with hope and equanimity
Strengthened through the power of Godliness
And the ordinances in which we're participating

The Fruits of the Gospel

The fruits of the gospel
Are satisfyingly sweet
As with delight one's given
What's nourishing to eat

To one is given knowledge
To another faith to believe
That through commitment full fledged
There's covenants one can receive

Walk With Me, And Come Back

Walk with me
Through the scriptures
Then you'll see
God's peaceable pictures
Come be meek
And lowly in heart
All we seek
Our Lord will impart

The good gift
Comes through real intent
It will lift
As we, too, repent
Come partake
Of the good seeds of truth
Come remake
Covenants where there's sweet fruit

Don't deny
The power of the rod
Come, rely
On the merits of our God
Dearest member
For us, life He's won
Come, remember
The love of the Son

On the Night Before His Crucifixion

On the night before His crucifixion
The Savior offered the sacrament
Loving symbols not cruel depictions
As He explained to them what both meant

He the bread of life would soon be broken
His suff'ring and death would give us life
The living water of which He'd spoken
Required He feel all our sins and strife

We have each taken upon us His name
Now we've come to renew our covenants
To be pronounced clean and to obtain
The measure of His spirit He grants

With contrite spirit and solemnity
May we partake of each symbol
With our hearts filled with humility
May we express to Him- We're thankful

Noah, A Just Man Who Walked With God

A just man who walked with God-
He oft called man to repent
But, they thought that he was odd
An arc no where to be sent ?
Then, down the big raindrops went

40 days and 40 nights
The upper atmosphere drained
And the earth was soon baptized
Though some question how long it rained
Belief in Noah has not wained

The flood- the dividing point
Seized longevity to flow
Had the firmaments joined
From what's above to what's below?
Now there's rainbows, that much we know

As the sunlight strikes the rain
A prism in each raindrop
Shows color, where it once was plain
In a bow that arcs at the top
And seven colors develop

As though a ladder to heav'n
Upon which heroes can climb
In Genesis the truth is giv'n
As a covenant to mankind
This bow's the token you will find

We all come from Noah's seed
As all others quickly drowned
They who still in God believed
Could have offspring righteous bound
To fill the earth with peace around

Gen. 1: 6-8, 14-15, 17, 20
6 ¶ And God said, Let there be a firmament
in the midst of the waters,
and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament,
and divided the waters which were
under the firmament from the waters
which were above the firmament:
and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven.
And the evening and the morning
were the second day.
• • •
14 ¶ And God said, Let there be lights
in the firmament of the heaven
to divide the day from the night;
and let them be for signs, and for seasons,
and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament
of the heaven to give light upon the earth:
and it was so.
• • •
17 And God set them in the firmament
of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
• • •
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth
abundantly the moving creature that hath life,
and fowl that may fly above the earth in the
open firmament of heaven.

Genesis 9
13 I do set my bow in the cloud,
and it shall be for a token of a
covenant between me and the earth.
14 And it shall come to pass,
when I bring a cloud over the earth,
that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15 And I will remember my covenant,
which is between me and you
and every living creature of all flesh;
and the waters shall no more become a
flood to destroy all flesh.
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud;
and I will look upon it, that I may remember
the everlasting covenant between God
and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

Precious Words From Jacob (Part 2)

Precious words from Jacob
Were treasured for the least.
Those that are pure in heart
Lift up your head and feast.
Look unto God with firmness
Of your cause, He will plead.

He is aware of you-
The wives and the children
He knows that you have lost
Confidence in your men.
More so to God show your faith
And put your trust in Him!

Since Lehi, the brethren
Have known the commandments.
There is condemnation
That will bring great laments.
If the brethren don't repent
They will know consequence.

The lamanites, though cursed
love their wives and children.
To those of the covenant,
Much more is expected.
The brethren must shake themselves
Or know a second death.

Jacob wanted to console
Each tender broken heart.
But, his task and his role
Was to remind men of their part.
For one falter can cause
generations to depart.

A Tiny Seed

A tiny seed from a sweet tender fruit
Is planted in our hearts and takes root
Prepared with truths as a fertile rich land
Its roots grow deep by an attentive hand
New life appears to the sun it strives
With word of God and with love it survives
Through covenants and prayers which protect from trampling
From the things that destroy a small sapling

Deep in the depths of a heart a seed is planted a new life can start!
If we but do our part

A tender tree should not be neglected
The growing branches must be trained, perfected
And pruned to reach up and to the sunlight
Where it draws upon God’s love for its might
Until buds of growth promise a good harvest
Where fruits of faith are sweet, are best
And prepare for an everlasting new tree!
There is a balance to what we want and need!

Deep in the depths of a heart a seed is planted a new life can start!
If we but do our part

The heart is the perfect place to grow things
It’s closely tied to our sacred feelings
A heart that’s tried will feel broken and torn
Yet, strongest branches can then be reborn
For when the storm comes without delay
What’s lifeless will soon be broken away
We learn how to plant to prepare a new heart
The fruit to the faithful, our Lord will impart

Deep in the depths of a heart a seed is planted a new life can start!
If we but do our part

He's Been There Before

He's Been There Before by Elder Troy Whittle
The alarm bell rings at 6:30, I stumble to my feet
I grab my companions bedding and pull off his sheets
A groan fills the room, is it already time to arise?
It seems like just a second ago I was able to shut my eyes

The morning activities follow- study, prayer and such
When it's time to leave the apartment, you feel you haven't accomplished much
"We have a super day planned," My comp. says with a grin
I lowly utter a faithless breath, "Yeah, if anyone lets us in."

With the word of God and my faithful Schwinn, we ride off in the street prepared to
Face another day of humidity and heat
It's 9:30 in the evening, the day is almost through
My champion and I are riding home not accomplishing what we thought to do

We ride up to the mailbox, hoping to receive a lot
Only to look inside and hear my echo reverberate "air Box"
We go up to our apartment, the day is now complete
The only thing to show for our work is a case of blistery feet

It's past 10:30 p.m. My companion is fast asleep,
Silence engulfs me all about and I begin to weep
In the midst of sadness, I kneel down to pray
I need to talk to father, but I'm not sure what to say

"Oh, Father" I begin, "What happened to us today?
I thought we'd teach somebody, but everyone was away
My hands, my aching hands- worn, hurt and beat;
If our area was any smaller, we'd have knocked every street"

"Why on missions are the days so much alike?
The only difference about today was the flat tire on my bike
Will you send some cooler weather? The heat is killing me
I sweat so bad, it gets in my eyes, it's very hard to see"

"Why do I have to wear a helmet, isn't your protection enough?
People always laugh at me, and call me stupid stuff
Please send us investigators so I may give them what they lack
I want to give them Books of Mormon, the weight of them hurts my back"

"And what about my family: They don't have much to say
I'm sick of not hearing from home day after day after day
Oh Father, Why am I here am I just wasting time?
Sometimes I just want to go home, I'm sorry but that's on my mind"

"My companion, Heavenly Father, what are you giving me?
"The way he rides his bicycle, I don't think he can see
Now you have it, I can't go on, I don't know what to do
That, my Father in Heaven, is the prayer I have for you"

My prayer now finished, I stand up, then jump right into bed
I need my rest for tomorrow, we have another long day ahead
Sleep start to overtake me, I seem to drift away
Then it seems a vision takes me to another time in another day

I'm standing alone on the hill. The view is very nice
A man walks to wards me and says, "My name is Jesus Christ"
Tears of joy well up inside, I fall down to His feet
"Arise," He states, "Follow me to the shade. You and I need to speak"

My attention's towards my Savior, total and complete
He says, "Your mission is similar of what happened to me
I understand how you feel, I know what you're going through
In fact, it would be fair to say I've felt the same as you"

"I even know how you felt when no one listened to you
At times I felt not quite sure what else I could do
I know you don't like to ride a bicycle, for you a car would be sweet
Just remember the donkey I rode wasn't equipped with 21 speeds"

"I understand you don't like sweating, in fact it's something you hate
I remember when I sweat blood from ev’ry pore, oh the agony was great!
I see you don't like your companion- you'd rather have someone else-
I once had a companion named Judas who sold my life for wealth"

"It's hard to wear a helmet and have people make fun of you
I remember when they put thorns on my head and called me King of the Jews
So you feel burdened down by the weight of your pack
I recall how heavy the cross was when they slammed it on my back"

"Your hands hurt from tracting and knocking on doors all day
I guess when they pounded nails into mine, I ached in a similar way
It's hard not to hear from home when your family's not there to see
I lost communication on the cross and cried, "Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

"We have a lot in common, but there's a difference between us you see
I endured to the end and finished my mission, so follow and do like me"
He embraced me with His arms and His light filled me with His love
With tears in my eyes I watched as He went back to the Father above

I stood with awe and wonder when a beep rang in my head
I listened and heard the alarm, then realized I was in my bed
My companion let out a groan, "6:30 already, no way!"
I sat up and said, "Come on, I'll even carry your scriptures today!"

No matter what we go through, when we feel we can't take more
Just stop and think about Jesus Christ, He's been there before

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

These poems are my own thoughts and impressions as I study the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints

I encourage you to read from the Book of Mormon and the standard works, and listen to modern day prophets, also, that your mind and heart might be touched.
