After all these years, I realize the irony of celebrating Father's day as summer time is rolling out and all the kids are home for summer and play.  Dad's really are selfless providers.

Hands

Jesus spoke in parables
So we could understand
He helps us in our troubles
That we will know first hand

For He draws things in the sand

He spoke of the body, too
The foot, nose, back, side, and face
He spoke of what hands can do
And someday Him, we'll embrace

The most difficult to paint

The hand is hard to create
To study, capture and embody

Whether babe soft or grown knobby

Is the tenderest of sights

My Dad

My Dad throws me way up high

It’s June and in my corner of the world, that means warmer weather, summer vacations, kids out of school and Father’s Day! In just over a week we will be celebrating the influence of dads in our lives. United Families International has researched the critical place fathers play in the lives of their children.

We recognize that dad is not only the one to toss us high into the air, teach us to ride a bike and fix its flat, loosen the tight grip on the pickle jar, move our boxes as we go away to college and comfort us when we make mistakes, but fathers also provide the security that keeps kids in school, and out of drugs, mischief and prisons. Social science clearly shows that having a father in the home lessens substantially the risks of unhappy, delinquent children in society.

I wish to thank Tom Christensen for the following write up on fathers. Having been involved in pro-family work for over 25 years and as the father of 16 children, Tom certainly understands the importance of fathers and families in a healthy society!

A Father is Tough

A father is tough
When he needs to be
His voice can be gruff
And not so friendly

He stands for what's right
And fights for justice
He's brave and shows might
When there's an injustice

He's sturdy and kind
A strength to lean on
He's someone to mind
And no one to con

And he gets wiser
Through experience
He's a despiser
Of disobedience

Having a daughter
Gives him a soft heart
When she says Father
His heart skips and starts

When he has a son
He renews hobbies
His chores become fun
Which mother lobbies

Whether girl or boy
They want time with him
His thoughts, they enjoy
But, his time runs thin

His role is to work
He provides so much
Of this he'll not shirk
For a man's made of such

He buys a new tool
It alerts neighbors
They think it is cool
And with him labors

All the Dad's gather
And while they work hard
The children gather
And play in the yard

For where Dad is found
They're set to be too
And when he's around

To Do It All Over Again

Infant is a slightly more formal term for the word baby, the youngest category of child. The term "infant" derives from the Latin word in-fans, meaning "unable to speak." "Infant" is also a legal term with the (quite different) meaning of minor; that is, any child under the age of legal adulthood. A human infant less than a month old is a newborn infant or a neonate[1]. The term "newborn" includes premature infants and postmature infants, as well as full term newborns.


To start over is a scary thing
To be an infant all over again
Would we submit and come to being?
Would we stay premortal rather than?

To leave our Heavenly parents for new
From life of bliss to one of helplessness
To be small and uncomfortable, too
Here, to place trust while we are speechless...

Perhaps, at the start, we felt unsure
And spent every moment to prepare
Perhaps we gained faith that we'd endure
By watching mothers give their kind care

Can a mother be one, by random?
Can the father who gave of his seed?
For them both, we left what was grandsome
From them, we have our earth life indeed

Our kind wise Heavenly Father
Placed a veil here so we would not grieve
So all our past growth would not bother
Our progress here and need to believe

What is learned by having a body?
Perhaps to become closer to God?
Would He that we treat it as shoddy?
Or compare and put on a facade?

Our spirits do not depreciate
We can not go back or start over
So we should learn and appreciate
All we've been given to discover

There is a plan that's been put in place
To return to God in unity
We've a Savior, our sins He'll erase
Pray we take the opportunity

When our sins become overwhelming
What should we then do as our first move?
Give remorse its place for delving
Corrections are a way to improve

The greatest pickup line ever made
His name was Big Jake and hers was Jade
He said, “I’ve been waiting for you all my life,
I’ve dreamt that you are to be my wife”

She asked of him a simple request
That their wedding day be the best

The greatest request ever made
Jade asked that they put off that blessed date
For her daddy had dreams for that great day
And he would want to give his little girl away

Too, Jade asked that their love wouldn’t fade
For of losing another... she was afraid

It was Big Jake’s best letter he wrote
Then, her daddy sent back this proud note:

Please wear Momma’s old wedding band

But... Jade learned the very next day
That Daddy had given his life away

Then the greatest purchase he'd yet made....

A small jade pendant strung upon a brass braid
Shaped in precision of a hand grenade

In memory of her daddy... and the lives he saved
For he’d tossed a handful unto a brigade

One day... in a cemetary between many graves
Their vows were made where her Daddy now lay
And side by side on that braided string
A piece of jade and Momma’s ring

Wedding guests please honor Daddy’s quest:
To give a needed hand with no regrets

This free and safe country Jade deserves
A man learns that who he love he serves
And this view is how love is preserved
From a man who served in the Air Force reserves

Daddy gave his life and Momma’s wedding band
When what he really wanted to give away Jade’s hand

Empowered By Our Parents

When all the victories
And defeats of men unfold-
They'll tell of mother's
Sacrifice for them untold.
The faith of mothers
Has not a price nor can be sold.

When all the conquests
End and fade before our eyes-
We'll hear of father's
Long gone with tear filled good byes.
They proved their manhood-
Though one may not finish- he tries.

An onward movement
Is made or broke by man.
Our forefathers layed
Foundations that help us to plan.
By their example
We know that we must and we can.

Our mothers flowers
Help us to feel hopeful.
She plants a garden
And tries to be fruitful.
Yet, it is her smile
For which we're most thankful.

Our heavenly mother
Gave us some of her qualities.
Is that why we cringe
When we hear of indignities?
And perhaps she's why
We soften and yearn for babies?

Our Heavenly Father
Gives us His priesthood and power.
He is our strength.
