On the Most Important Sunday of All

On the most important Sunday of all
The earth shook and a tomb stone rolled away
Conquering the effects of the fall
The Lord was resurrected on that day

We need not have an angel's voice or trump
That of the first Easter, we can testify...
For already eyes tear and throats form a lump
When we pause to think of Him risen and alive

He is the Son of God, the only begotten in the flesh
The promised Messiah, our Lord, and Savior of worth
May we learn of Him and follow Him as we would a compass
For by and through Him there is direction on earth

The fundamental principle of the gospel
Is faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ
He stands, a central and solitary figure,
Offering hope and peace in this life

Through Him, we can gain truth and confidence
Knowing prayers are both heard and answered
Through Him, we can endure with persistence
Personally feeling loved by Him and treasured

Verse 1]
On the most important Sunday of all
The earth shook and the stone rolled away
Conquering the effects of the fall
The Lord was resurrected that day

We need not hear an angel's voice
For we testify with teers and awe
So much that our throats form a lump
When we pause to think of Him alive

[Pre-Chorus]
He is the Son of God
The only begotten in the flesh
The promised Messiah
Our Lord, our Savior, our rest

[Chorus]
He is the Son of God
Risen and alive
He is the Son of God
Hope for every life

Risen and alive
Risen and alive
He stands forever
Risen and alive

[Verse 2]
May we learn of Him and follow Him
As we would a compass in our hand
For by and through Him there is direction
A steady path through shifting sand

The fundamental principle
Is faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ
He stands, a central and solitary figure
Offering peace in this life

[Pre-Chorus]
Through Him we gain truth
Through Him we gain confidence
Knowing prayers are heard
Knowing prayers are answered

[Chorus]
He is the Son of God
Risen and alive
He is the Son of God
Hope for every life

Risen and alive
Risen and alive
He stands forever
Risen and alive

[Bridge]
Through Him, we can endure
With persistence in the night
Personally loved and treasured
Held in His sight

Through Him, we can endure
When the tears refuse to dry
Personally loved and treasured
By the risen Christ

[Chorus]
He is the Son of God
Risen and alive
He is the Son of God
Hope for every life

Risen and alive
Risen and alive
He stands forever
Risen and alive

“Pay attention to the things that bring a tear to your eye or a lump in your throat because they are signs that the holy is drawing near.” — Quote by Frederick Buechner

As Christ's Body Lay in the Tomb

As Christ's body lay in the tomb
Guarded by His enemies
The new day was of mourning and gloom
For the disciples and their families

But, what joy in the world of those who had passed!
As Christ, in the spirit, came to preach
Unto the righteous who knew Him well
For redemption was promised to each

Christ organized and set up order
So the unlearned could be taught
From every dispensation and corner:
Whether they had rebelled or had known Him naught

For God's people, this day was anticipated
Mercy would be offered to man!
Each Elder to receive a call... delegated
Believing through Christ, in all things, he can!

Each taught... all would be judged in the flesh
To accept or reject Christ's offering
To rejoice, repent and with God mesh
Or choose another way, with one's own suffering

Echoing round paradise the message rang
"Repent of all things and feed lost sheep
Ever to the Lord, all salvation hangs"
Thus His servants in death, still watch keep

And I in my station, what shall I do?
Am I willing to help another in need?
Do I seek much to know and follow through?
Serving His children, am I eager to feed?

Do I Willingly Serve Others When There is a Need

Do I willingly serve others when there is a need?
And ask the Lord what He would have me do?
As His shepherd I know I should feed
Through feeling a prompting and following through

On This Day Christ Was Charged

On this day Christ was charged, convicted,
And sentenced to be crucified
Too, He was mocked with stripes inflicted
Humiliated in any way they could devise

Having sought to prove Him blasphemous
They asked “Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”
When all knew... He had been in their midst as Jesus…
Thus to close His ministry the way it began… "I Am,” He said,

“And, ye shall see the Son of man sitting
On the right hand of power
And coming in the clouds of heaven”,
He prophesied of an unseen day and hour

Too… this day, Peter, a worthy disciple
Denied knowing Jesus…three times!
With His name, we are His people.
How, He brings a light to our eyes!

On This Day- Jesus Gives the Warning

On this day, Christ issued a warning-
One among Him would betray Him
For the crucifixion was forthcoming
Thus He began to prepare them

There, each pledged full loyalty
To stand tall in His defense
Then... off near the lone olive tree
They slept through their allegiance

Of this day will be remembered
His wonderous intercessory prayer
And that the disciples slumbered
While all of our sins He did bear

Three times He came and awoke them.
His only source of comfort... an angel
As with this agony so foreign
He was pressed upon nearly to strangle

Then to test His forgiveness
As ever His work was His alone
Judas came with the famous kiss
The arranged betrayal was shown

Do I truly love Jesus Christ?
Have I let Him into my life?
Do I trust and put Him first
As I think of His sacrifice?

The disciples pledge their loyalty to Him
(Mark 14:27-31).
President Hinckley said: Be loyal to the Church. Stand tall for it. Defend it. Speak no evil against it. It is the work of God. He who ridicules it or defames it offends Him whose church it is. It carries the sacred name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He Who Governs Himself

He who governs himself
Is greater than
a city
Being freed from sloth and hell
To soar with great capacity

day 10-

On this date
It just states
Jesus spent the day
Secluded and away

His remaining days were short
To be counted on one hand
What discipline and effort
Was spent to prepare for sin's demand?

quote taken from
President Hinckley's comments quoting:

He that governs himself is greater than he who taketh a city
Three Sevens:
A Story of Ancient Initiation
By Phelons, R. Swinburne Clymer
1938. Written by Dr. and Mrs. W.P. Phelon, founders of the Hermetic Brotherhood of Atlantis, Luxor and Elphantae, with extensive notes exemplifying Occult Laws by R. Swinburne Clymer. The three seven-year periods of development in the experience of the Neophyte are explained. Years are used allegorically to indicate a period of time required for development, depending on the application and seriousness of the student. As the story unfolds, the mystical meaning of Soul Initiation is hidden in a human-interest romance.

I Will Live the Truths I Know

I will live the truths I know
And be righteous inwardly
Letting my light shine where e'er I go
For God truly empowers me

I will avoid hypocrisy
And not judge any other
If anyone's a sinner... it's me
And that other is my brother

In my ceaseless quest for truth
Both spiritual and secular
When e'er I need Light for proof
I know it's found through serving Father

Jesus warns about hypocrisy in Matthew 23 –
there are some wonderful images here –
be sure the watch for JST in the footnotes.

thoughts from 14 day walk with Christ-
What is hypocrisy and why is it dangerous?

President Hinckley said:

“Ours ought to be a ceaseless quest for truth. That truth must include spiritual and religious truth as well as secular.”

“If you have any question concerning the truth of this work, you do the will of God and you will know that it is true.”

In A Day of Triumph and Authority

In a day of triumph and authority
The Savior entered the holy city.
It was desired of Him to be an earthly king.
Yet... it was salvation He came to bring.

He went and cast out the money changers
In a display of righteous anger.
Was it not the Romans He should fight?
Yet...truly for cleansing He came with Light.

For are we not like a temple?
Housed spirits, as God's people?
Ever in need of purifying
What should I, then, be denying?

That petty thought or worldly want,
Defiling in me what He has won?
Were I to repent of, for higher ground
To spiritual safety I would be found.

It Is the Spring of A.D. 34

It is the spring of A.D. 34
The final week of His mortal life
Let us spend it with the Lord
And let Him change our lives

In a costly gift,
Mary washed His feet
To our Lord, what can we give...
As a sacrifice... complete

The life of her brother Lazarus
Was sought by conspirators
Who'd planned demise for Jesus
As collusion more out pours

Would we cave in terror
Or stay true loyally
Would we grow in fervor
Supportive... royally...

John 12:1-11 don’t forget to watch for the Joseph Smith Translation in the footnotes. Here Mary, sister of Lazarus, anoints the feet of Jesus...a conspiracy to kill Jesus and Lazarus both is revealed.

“Sacrifice is the very essence of religion; it is the keystone of happy home life, the basis of true friendship, the foundation of peaceful community living, of sound relations among people and nations . . . .

“Without sacrifice there is no true worship of God.”

Oh the Vainness

Oh the vainness, the frailties, and the foolishness of men
When they think they are wise, they then
cease to listen
Let us not set aside great wisdom we know is of profit
For God sends to us counsel through His beloved prophets

Shall we deliver our independence
To the bondage of worldly men's judgment?
When to God we owe our allegiance
Shall we heed loud overriding comments?

For the revelations of God
And the whisperings that flow
I am blessed with His iron rod
That I can hold to...and know

“’O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish.
‘But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God’ (2 Nephi 9:28-29).

President Ezra Taft Benson declared, “When pride has a hold on our hearts, we lose our independence of the world and deliver our freedoms to the bondage of men’s judgement. The world shouts louder than the whisperings of the Holy Ghost. The reasoning of men overrides the revelations of God, and the proud let go of the iron rod.” (See 1 Nephi 8:19-28, 11:25, 15:23-24.)

Spiritually Minded is Life Eternal

Spiritually minded is life eternal (S M I L E)
These words gave me the happiest thought
That if I pray earnestly with my heart full
Through the Spirit there's great joy to be taught

“...Remember, to be carnally-minded is death,
and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal.” (2 Nephi 9:39)

We Can Fine Tune the Spirit

We can fine tune the Spirit
Like unto a personal radio
That we might better then hear it
Speak softly unto our soul

A prayful commitment to obey
All that the Lord commands
Is continually the way
One hears and understands

In this shifting and unstable world
Peace and assurance can come
Despite all that in life is hurled
We have help to overcome

Elder Harold B. Lee taught, "All too often, when God speaks in this still, small voice, it may not be audible to our physical hearing because, like a faulty radio, we may be out of tune wit the infinite. If you will be obedient (for that is the condition) the Lord’s promise to you of peace is sure, absolutely certain!”

Imagine, you've only an hour
To spend with that one in your life
What truths would you empower
To relieve the pain and strife

Love would be my message
Born of Jesus Christ
As life flickers to the edge
I would teach them of His Light

Imagine doing this anyways
With those you pass by each day
Think of the souls you could save

"Be As I Am," the Savior tells us

"Be as I am," the Savior tells us
Through example and in love
Nurture others and build trust
Remind them what life is made of

Express gratitude to all around
Look for the best and forgive
Leave people better than when they were found
That finding joy becomes their motive

President Gordon B. Hinckley said, "Express gratitude to everyone."

Elder Marvin J. Ashton reminds us, "Be one who nurtures and builds. Be one who has an understanding and a forgiving heart, who looks for the best in people. Leave people better than you found them."

Jesus Christ, is our best teacher and the finest example of how to treat others.
"Be as I am," he tells us.
By following his example we can make greater progress in improving ourselves and our relationships than by any other way.

What Shall We Do With Jesus?

What shall we do with Jesus
As He bids, "Come follow me," each day
Let us unchain divinity within us
And allow Him to lead the Way

Let us prove our physical stamina
And stand taller to apply each teaching
There is a calm courage within us
When we feel His pure Light as we're reaching

“What shall we do with Jesus who is called Christ? Learn of him. Search the scriptures for they are they which testify of him. Ponder the miracle of his life and mission. Try a little more diligently to follow his example and observe his teachings.”
Gordon B. Hinckley

Recently in South America, a seasoned group of outstanding missionaries was asked, “What is the greatest need in the world?” One wisely responded: “Is not the greatest need in all of the world for every person to have a personal, ongoing, daily, continuing relationship with the Savior?” Having such a relationship can unchain the divinity within us, and nothing can make a greater difference in our lives as we come to know and understand our divine relationship with God.
We should earnestly seek not just to know about the Master, but to strive, as He invited, to be one with Him (see John 17:21), to “be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man” (Eph. 3:16).
James E. Faust

It is my testimony that we are facing difficult times. We must be courageously obedient. My witness is that we will be called upon to prove our spiritual stamina, for the days ahead will be filled with affliction and difficulty. But with the assuring comfort of a personal relationship with the Savior, we will be given a calming courage.

Unchain the Divinity Within, 14 Day Con't day 2

Unchain the divinity within
Begin today through earnest prayer
Then search through the scriptures now written
There you will find... you are almost there

In humility, seek to know the Master
And accept His invitation to become like Him
Then when comes a day of disaster
The weight of it's trial will lighten

14 Day Walk with Christ -Oviedo Ward Youth

Day 1

The literal Son of God
The Creator of Heaven and Earth
Condescended and walked upon sod
To lead mankind unto great worth

Let's take a walk with the Savior
And journey His paths to tread
While pondering the world's unique flavor
Let us know that by Him we are led

Let's awake and arise our faculties
To measure what's divinely in reach
That we might attain new ability
As we practice what the Master does teach

Then with built character, we will rise up tall
To experience virtue, knowledge, and temperance
While being increasingly humble- lest we fall
Thus following our Savior with more diligence

He's Been There Before

He's Been There Before by Elder Troy Whittle
The alarm bell rings at 6:30, I stumble to my feet
I grab my companions bedding and pull off his sheets
A groan fills the room, is it already time to arise?
It seems like just a second ago I was able to shut my eyes

The morning activities follow- study, prayer and such
When it's time to leave the apartment, you feel you haven't accomplished much
"We have a super day planned," My comp. says with a grin
I lowly utter a faithless breath, "Yeah, if anyone lets us in."

With the word of God and my faithful Schwinn, we ride off in the street prepared to
Face another day of humidity and heat
It's 9:30 in the evening, the day is almost through
My champion and I are riding home not accomplishing what we thought to do

We ride up to the mailbox, hoping to receive a lot
Only to look inside and hear my echo reverberate "air Box"
We go up to our apartment, the day is now complete
The only thing to show for our work is a case of blistery feet

It's past 10:30 p.m. My companion is fast asleep,
Silence engulfs me all about and I begin to weep
In the midst of sadness, I kneel down to pray
I need to talk to father, but I'm not sure what to say

"Oh, Father" I begin, "What happened to us today?
I thought we'd teach somebody, but everyone was away
My hands, my aching hands- worn, hurt and beat;
If our area was any smaller, we'd have knocked every street"

"Why on missions are the days so much alike?
The only difference about today was the flat tire on my bike
Will you send some cooler weather? The heat is killing me
I sweat so bad, it gets in my eyes, it's very hard to see"

"Why do I have to wear a helmet, isn't your protection enough?
People always laugh at me, and call me stupid stuff
Please send us investigators so I may give them what they lack
I want to give them Books of Mormon, the weight of them hurts my back"

"And what about my family: They don't have much to say
I'm sick of not hearing from home day after day after day
Oh Father, Why am I here am I just wasting time?
Sometimes I just want to go home, I'm sorry but that's on my mind"

"My companion, Heavenly Father, what are you giving me?
"The way he rides his bicycle, I don't think he can see
Now you have it, I can't go on, I don't know what to do
That, my Father in Heaven, is the prayer I have for you"

My prayer now finished, I stand up, then jump right into bed
I need my rest for tomorrow, we have another long day ahead
Sleep start to overtake me, I seem to drift away
Then it seems a vision takes me to another time in another day

I'm standing alone on the hill. The view is very nice
A man walks to wards me and says, "My name is Jesus Christ"
Tears of joy well up inside, I fall down to His feet
"Arise," He states, "Follow me to the shade. You and I need to speak"

My attention's towards my Savior, total and complete
He says, "Your mission is similar of what happened to me
I understand how you feel, I know what you're going through
In fact, it would be fair to say I've felt the same as you"

"I even know how you felt when no one listened to you
At times I felt not quite sure what else I could do
I know you don't like to ride a bicycle, for you a car would be sweet
Just remember the donkey I rode wasn't equipped with 21 speeds"

"I understand you don't like sweating, in fact it's something you hate
I remember when I sweat blood from ev’ry pore, oh the agony was great!
I see you don't like your companion- you'd rather have someone else-
I once had a companion named Judas who sold my life for wealth"

"It's hard to wear a helmet and have people make fun of you
I remember when they put thorns on my head and called me King of the Jews
So you feel burdened down by the weight of your pack
I recall how heavy the cross was when they slammed it on my back"

"Your hands hurt from tracting and knocking on doors all day
I guess when they pounded nails into mine, I ached in a similar way
It's hard not to hear from home when your family's not there to see
I lost communication on the cross and cried, "Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

"We have a lot in common, but there's a difference between us you see
I endured to the end and finished my mission, so follow and do like me"
He embraced me with His arms and His light filled me with His love
With tears in my eyes I watched as He went back to the Father above

I stood with awe and wonder when a beep rang in my head
I listened and heard the alarm, then realized I was in my bed
My companion let out a groan, "6:30 already, no way!"
I sat up and said, "Come on, I'll even carry your scriptures today!"

No matter what we go through, when we feel we can't take more
Just stop and think about Jesus Christ, He's been there before
