Read from the link, the story about one of the saints crossing the plains who sat at camp, tired and sick. He sang Come Come Ye Saints and then died in the night.  When they buried him, they used the very rock he had been sitting on as his headstone.

tabernacle on 27 november 1978
President Jimmy Carter said,
"I thought about the early mormons coming across this country singing a
famous hymn Come Come Ye Saints.  Only a deep faith
could let the words of that song, All is Well, ring out. In times
when you and your forefathers were persecuted and driven one from
another when you crossed this land looking for freedom and a chance
to worship in your own way when perhaps you knew that you were
about to die when drought and thirst affected you and still the song
rang out all is well. This is indeed a demonstration of faith and a
reaffirmation of hope.

Here is my attempt at a hymn...

The Good Shepherd

The good shepherd became the lamb
To perfectly lead His sheep
To succor them and understand
How tenderly to watchkeep

He came without spot
As God's own blessed son
And selflessly He sought
His Father's will to be done

He bore the sins of all mankind
Every sorrow, every pain
The trials of death and hell combined
He received our stripes and was slain

His blood...that we might drink
His flesh... that we might sup
He went beneath all things
So He might then lift us up

Today He calls us all by name
We, His sheep, can know His voice
To repent oft and be freed of blame
His pure light governs every choice

He tends His lost sheep
Who have all gone astray
His love will never sleep
He's Light, and Life...the Way

Towards a brighter day

Alma 5:37 O ye workers of iniquity; ye that are puffed up in the vain things of the world, ye that have professed to have known the ways of righteousness nevertheless have gone astray, as sheep having no shepherd, notwithstanding a shepherd hath called after you and is still calling after you, but ye will not hearken unto his voice!

The Long Battle was On

The long battle was on
To live despite cancer
And it was through song
She fought well and conquered

A song is a prayer
It is everything
When you need God's care
For He is listening

The Beats of Music Spring life to our Step

The beats of music spring life to our step
Reaching within where emotions are kept
Creating power for good or bad to then awake
Some tempering appetites we need to break

The sacred hymns come of the Scriptures
Can calm our minds with peace that endures
Hummed or sung, rich feelings keep coming back
Offering us a measure of what we lack

Soothing us with the love of God unto reverence
Lighting us to Christ who makes the difference
This blessed music can linger well within the head
Such that we feel we've been spiritually fed

They can turn off bad thoughts and temper moods
Even to the point of calming family feuds
Whether it be faith or repentance that we seek
The hymns can lifts us when all seems bleak

Hum one's melody, for inside them lies
A prayer to God who hears our cries
Singing a hymn can help us when we are tired
Inviting the Spirit for they are inspired

Some Temptations Do Persist

Some temptations do persist
But, we have tools to help us resist

Hymns help us make continual prayers to God
And The Word guides us on His path with a rod

So, let's choose a hymn and sing with might
And read from the scriptures in search of Light

The Nourishing Power of Hymns

A hymn impresses and invites the Spirit
As it's an inspiring sermon to those who hear it
A hymn is filled with the Spirit of conversion
And when the Devil tempts, it strengthens for dispersion

A hymns creates a feeling of reverence
Especially when played without utterance
Before we meet and again at the end
May we be without speech to feel what descends

The Savior and His power, heals us of pain
As with the sacramental hymn our voices refrain
A hymn is a prayer of itself that we send
What better way to prepare us for amen?

We can memorize and ponder them, recite and sing
Oh the Spirit of beauty, peace, and love it will bring
Know that the song of the righteous is a prayer unto God
And is a way that blessings upon heads are then brought

Here we come to judge ourselves
Of our own worthiness.
