You learn to solve big problems
To persevere through every task
You are independent. self-reliant
Till trouble lifts the mask
This thing you cannot fix
Pain, sorrow, and death
Certainly no one picks
Full reality hits
No talent, willpower
Or experience
Will help in this hour
The burden is too big
To carry it alone
And you are left marveling
How the Savior did atone
He has prepared our rescue
To return us home again
Freed from sin and tragedy
Yes death and hell will end
May those who mourn find peace
And comfort from those who "know"
May heavy burdens ease
May Christ's love within you grow
May His countenance shine
Upon your seeking face
That through each troubling time
You grow a greater faith
[Verse 1]
You learn to solve big problems,
Persevere through every task;
Independent, self-reliant,
Till trouble lifts the mask.
[Verse 2]
Then comes the news you never wanted,
Something no repair can fix;
Pain and sorrow, loss and dying—
No one chooses days like this.
[Pre-Chorus]
When all your strength is spent,
And every answer fades,
The truth comes quietly:
For trials, we were made.
[Chorus]
The burden is too heavy,
You cannot bear it on your own;
Oh, marvel we've a Savior
He suffered it all. Such love shown!
He has prepared a rescue,
A way to bring us home again;
Sin and sorrow, death and darkness
Will not have the final end.
[Verse 3]
When reality comes fully,
Talent, will, experience
Cannot mend the deepest breaking,
Cannot shield us from this hour.
[Pre-Chorus]
So bring the ache before Him,
Let another share the load;
Love can hold us in the waiting,
Hope can meet us on the road.
[Chorus]
The burden is too heavy,
You cannot bear it on your own;
Oh, marvel we've a Savior
He suffered it all. Such love shown!
He has prepared a rescue,
A way to bring us home again;
Sin and sorrow, death and darkness
Will not have the final end.
[Bridge]
May those who mourn find peace now,
And comfort from those who know;
May every weight grow lighter,
May Christ's love within you grow.
[Outro]
May His countenance shine
Upon your seeking face
That through each troubling time
You grow a greater faith
Comfort from the Holy Ghost
By Elder Matthew J. Eyring
Of the Seventy
Do we truly appreciate all the Lord has done for us? He spares us from the only two things that can bring us permanent misery: separation from our bodies and separation from God because of sin. Even as He comforts us through temporary times of challenge and pain, He has prepared our rescue from permanent tragedy.
Jacob, in the Book of Mormon, taught: “O how great the goodness of our God, who prepareth a way for our escape from the grasp of this awful monster; yea, that monster, death and hell, which I call the death of the body, and also the death of the spirit.”
Someday we will more fully realize how generous and kind the Lord has been to each of us. We will better understand and appreciate the depth of the Savior’s sacrifice and the reality that He and the Father are truly givers of good gifts.
