Take heart, if your child has stepped away.
Join me to hope on with faith
Believe they will come to themselves, pray
Hold to what the scriptures say
Many of our children will be restored
As they come to something, a sign
A reminder of the love of the Lord
That redemption is theirs to find
God's promises are sure
He is merciful unto many
Hold true, yourself. endure
Believe in their return. Get ready!
As sure as the sun rises
You will awake to the day
You'll see and start running
With thanks that they found their way
The constant prayers the worry
The sleepless nights, reliving "if only"
The hole in your heart hurting
Believe that a part of them, too, is lonely
Like the prodigal son's father...longing...
It demanded of him, patience
That peeled aside lecturing
Unto dreams of a new chance
Eyes searching afar
Each mournful prayer
Now open arms
Running... heart full
This fresh new start

If you’re a parent whose child has stepped off the covenant path, I see you, and I honestly know what it feels like. It sucks. The worry, the sleepless nights, the ache in your heart, and it demands a depth of patience we often feel we don’t have. But take heart. This is exactly what the father of the prodigal son lived through. He didn’t chase, lecture, or lose hope. He simply kept watching. Every single day he looked down that road, ready to run. Do your best. Love fiercely. Pray without ceasing. And keep looking out each day for the moment they “come to themselves.” Because sure as the sun rises, there will be a day when they turn toward home. And when they do, be ready to run to them, just like that waiting father, with open arms and a heart full of mercy. From the Book of Mormon we read, “For behold, the promises which we have obtained are promises unto us according to the flesh; wherefore, as it has been shown unto me that many of our children shall perish in the flesh because of unbelief, nevertheless, God will be merciful unto many; and our children shall be restored, that they may come to that which will give them the true knowledge of their Redeemer.” - 2 Nephi 10:2 God’s promises are sure. He is merciful unto many. Our children shall be restored. Hold on.
