High Peak Banner

Verse 1] After hiking as far as they could The apostles and the prophet stood High above the valley Their new home With God’s blessings No longer to roam To a walking stick They tied a cloth On a high peak They waved it aloft As an ensign to all From the storm A raised standard Of works to perform [Pre-Chorus] Here was the place That the Savior chose The blossoming desert A unique rose Each pioneer Had survived circumstance Now the cause of Zion Could advance [Chorus] Raise the banner high Raise it high The Lord is our refuge Our defense Light the path ahead Light the path For our fellow man For our inheritance Raise the banner high Raise it high If we do our best We will stand [Verse 2] The gospel message Is now ours to preach To our neighbors Our example can reach Like the pioneers Who had much taken We, through our trials Gain faith unshaken If we are doing The best that we can We can light a path For our fellow man As a candle placed Upon a high peak Our flame can burn bright For all who may seek [Bridge] We must not attack Or turn flighty But in faith Pray to our Almighty Hold us steady When the wild winds blow Teach our hands Where to build and go [Chorus] Raise the banner high Raise it high The Lord is our refuge Our defense Light the path ahead Light the path For our fellow man For our inheritance Raise the banner high Raise it high If we do our best We will stand

Healed!

When our body heals
It can leave a scar.
What's left, one feels
Only healing so far.
In sin our spirits hurt
But, it can all go away
Through the atonement, first
We are made new that day.

Pondering President Packer's talk
Now I am not sure which one...Probably the first one.
But, isn't it amazing to think that the atonement can completely spiritually heal us!

President Packer

70 years of marriage with Donna, his Wife.
The mother of his children, his partner, his life.
The family and the temple, he taught us the way.
To return home to Heaven , forever to stay.

I am going to miss this wise man. I am thankful for his life's work and talents, his faithfulness and devotion to family. Now our prayers are going out to that large family of his.

Complete

A marriage is complete
When the spirit's found.
There's no need to compete;
God's the common ground!
Stay hurtful words
Apologize
Let praise be heard
Build loving ties
Guilt injures the spirit
Repentance must take place
Don't avoid it- hear this
The healing balm is grace

Spiritual Cleansing

Just as a white board
Can be wiped new and clean
Our souls are through our Lord
As repentance is seen

"Just as chalk can be removed from a blackboard, with sincere repentance the effects of our transgression can be erased through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. That promise applies in every case."

A Set Course of Faith

On a set course of faith
Remind yourself to pray
God's promises are sure
As we strive each day
 To seek Him and obey

Welcome peace to your heart
Repent.  Let go of fear
Seek the scriptures for truth
And feel God's love. It's near!
It has always been here!

Turn to God's holy words
Let peace settle your heart
The key to Spiritual Protection
Is to seek redemption to start
It's always been there! We must do our part!

President Boyd K. Packer
The Key to Spiritual Protection
November Ensign, 2014
Peace can be settled in the heart of each
who turns to the scriptures and unlocks
the promises of protection and redemption.

Sometimes You Have to "BACK TRACK"

Sometimes you have to "back track"
To get where you should be.
To receive the strength you lack
To get yourself moving.

Recall things in a journal
Let the spirit guide
Endure like life's a final
With God on your side.

There’s a word, repent. What does the “re” in repent mean? It means you do it again—repeat, repent. And then you have to backtrack to the point where you went off track and go forward, free from the challenges that were with you then.

Teaching in the Church

BOYD K. PACKER
PRESIDENT OF THE QUORUM OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES

Decide to "DO IT RIGHT"

Decide to "do it right"
And you will receive
From beyond the veil, light
If you but believe.
So, my counsel is simple. Just decide to do it right, decide to be better, decide to trust the scripture, and as you do, you’ll grow and the challenges you have will be for your good.

Teaching in the Church

BOYD K. PACKER
PRESIDENT OF THE QUORUM OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES

Trust in Your Call

Trust in your call
Words will come to you
Give of your all
And light will shine through.
I wish that there would be a way to promise you that if you studied earnestly and seriously that you’d be better. It won’t hurt you. But it won’t make you better, even as good as it would if you’d trust in the Lord and trust in the Spirit and go ahead. That doesn’t quite become second nature, but you, in due time, learn to trust the Spirit that it will be there. Many times I’ve stood at the pulpit and wondered what to say, kind of empty-headed and knowing that there was a great responsibility, but it always comes. It comes when you start. You start and begin, and then the revelation starts to flow. The credit we deserve from all of that is very little for ourselves, because the Spirit is the generating power.

The Mighty Healer

The mighty healer
Is the atonement
To the humble, eager
The Lord's strength is lent

The Atonement is the mighty healer—atone for the sins. Do you realize how marvelous it is that you can call upon the Atonement? The Lord effected the Atonement for our sakes. And there isn’t anything that you can’t repent from and that you can’t be rescued from if you will repent and be determined to make the decision. So, my counsel is simple. Just decide to do it right, decide to be better, decide to trust the scripture, and as you do, you’ll grow and the challenges you have will be for your good.

Unlock the Door

Unlock the door
Unto the Lord
His words protect,
Prompt, and perfect

Become wise
Unto salvation
Peace will rise
For inspiration

His healing voice
Comes as you read
May you rejoice
And let Him lead

Here lies the path
Where you should walk
To those who ask
The scriptures talk

Keep the door open
And listen well
Seek the Lord's wisdom
As a living well

Reading is the key
That unlocks the door
Spiritually
Unto the Living Lord

Tolerance as a Virtue

Tolerance as a virtue
Will not lead you astray
As to God's laws you are true
Naught will shade into gray

All of God's laws are exact
And, they guide us with light
Legalizing sinful acts
Cannot make them right

This light, given to man
Is the Spirit of Christ
It leads us to Him and
Helps us discern what is right

The law of chastity
Perfectly, can be known.
Through virtue's path it's seen
As, then, revelation is shown

What Satan Can and Cannot Do

As President Boyd K. Packer taught this morning, Satan cannot directly take a life. That is one of many things he cannot do. But apparently his effort to stop the work will be reasonably well served if he can just bind the tongue of the faithful. Brethren, if that is the case, I am looking tonight for men young and old who care enough about this battle between good and evil to sign on and speak up. We are at war, and for these next few minutes, I want to be a one-man recruiting station.

Do I need to hum a few bars of “We Are All Enlisted”? You know, the line about “We are waiting now for soldiers; who’ll volunteer?” Of course, the great thing about this call to arms is that we ask not for volunteers to fire a rifle or throw a hand grenade. No, we want battalions who will take as their weapons “every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God.” So I am looking tonight for missionaries who will not voluntarily bind their tongues but will, with the Spirit of the Lord and the power of their priesthood, open their mouths and speak miracles. Such speech, the early brethren taught, would be the means by which faith’s “mightiest works have been, and will be, performed.”

Satan cannot take a life
Nor can he stop "the work".
But, he can lure us away from light.
Return unto the Word!

He can "bind up the tongue!"
Lest some miracles cease,
As there is much to be done,
Our efforts must increase!

On a Cold Night Many Years Ago

On a cold night, many years ago
In a train set to depart
There was a tap at my window
I peered out with a start

There stood an orphan boy with a cup
He wore a rag tied about his face
I saw his hunger as he looked up
I'd some change, to a door I raced

Then I felt the jarring motion
Helpless...I could do no more
Save jump from the locomotion
He in the distance, my heart tore

I will never forget that little boy
Left destitute in the cold
Starving, freezing with naught a toy
Just a beggar's cup to hold

And a Little Child Shall Lead Them

He's Been There Before

He's Been There Before by Elder Troy Whittle
The alarm bell rings at 6:30, I stumble to my feet
I grab my companions bedding and pull off his sheets
A groan fills the room, is it already time to arise?
It seems like just a second ago I was able to shut my eyes

The morning activities follow- study, prayer and such
When it's time to leave the apartment, you feel you haven't accomplished much
"We have a super day planned," My comp. says with a grin
I lowly utter a faithless breath, "Yeah, if anyone lets us in."

With the word of God and my faithful Schwinn, we ride off in the street prepared to
Face another day of humidity and heat
It's 9:30 in the evening, the day is almost through
My champion and I are riding home not accomplishing what we thought to do

We ride up to the mailbox, hoping to receive a lot
Only to look inside and hear my echo reverberate "air Box"
We go up to our apartment, the day is now complete
The only thing to show for our work is a case of blistery feet

It's past 10:30 p.m. My companion is fast asleep,
Silence engulfs me all about and I begin to weep
In the midst of sadness, I kneel down to pray
I need to talk to father, but I'm not sure what to say

"Oh, Father" I begin, "What happened to us today?
I thought we'd teach somebody, but everyone was away
My hands, my aching hands- worn, hurt and beat;
If our area was any smaller, we'd have knocked every street"

"Why on missions are the days so much alike?
The only difference about today was the flat tire on my bike
Will you send some cooler weather? The heat is killing me
I sweat so bad, it gets in my eyes, it's very hard to see"

"Why do I have to wear a helmet, isn't your protection enough?
People always laugh at me, and call me stupid stuff
Please send us investigators so I may give them what they lack
I want to give them Books of Mormon, the weight of them hurts my back"

"And what about my family: They don't have much to say
I'm sick of not hearing from home day after day after day
Oh Father, Why am I here am I just wasting time?
Sometimes I just want to go home, I'm sorry but that's on my mind"

"My companion, Heavenly Father, what are you giving me?
"The way he rides his bicycle, I don't think he can see
Now you have it, I can't go on, I don't know what to do
That, my Father in Heaven, is the prayer I have for you"

My prayer now finished, I stand up, then jump right into bed
I need my rest for tomorrow, we have another long day ahead
Sleep start to overtake me, I seem to drift away
Then it seems a vision takes me to another time in another day

I'm standing alone on the hill. The view is very nice
A man walks to wards me and says, "My name is Jesus Christ"
Tears of joy well up inside, I fall down to His feet
"Arise," He states, "Follow me to the shade. You and I need to speak"

My attention's towards my Savior, total and complete
He says, "Your mission is similar of what happened to me
I understand how you feel, I know what you're going through
In fact, it would be fair to say I've felt the same as you"

"I even know how you felt when no one listened to you
At times I felt not quite sure what else I could do
I know you don't like to ride a bicycle, for you a car would be sweet
Just remember the donkey I rode wasn't equipped with 21 speeds"

"I understand you don't like sweating, in fact it's something you hate
I remember when I sweat blood from ev’ry pore, oh the agony was great!
I see you don't like your companion- you'd rather have someone else-
I once had a companion named Judas who sold my life for wealth"

"It's hard to wear a helmet and have people make fun of you
I remember when they put thorns on my head and called me King of the Jews
So you feel burdened down by the weight of your pack
I recall how heavy the cross was when they slammed it on my back"

"Your hands hurt from tracting and knocking on doors all day
I guess when they pounded nails into mine, I ached in a similar way
It's hard not to hear from home when your family's not there to see
I lost communication on the cross and cried, "Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

"We have a lot in common, but there's a difference between us you see
I endured to the end and finished my mission, so follow and do like me"
He embraced me with His arms and His light filled me with His love
With tears in my eyes I watched as He went back to the Father above

I stood with awe and wonder when a beep rang in my head
I listened and heard the alarm, then realized I was in my bed
My companion let out a groan, "6:30 already, no way!"
I sat up and said, "Come on, I'll even carry your scriptures today!"

No matter what we go through, when we feel we can't take more
Just stop and think about Jesus Christ, He's been there before

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

These poems are my own thoughts and impressions as I study the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints

I encourage you to read from the Book of Mormon and the standard works, and listen to modern day prophets, also, that your mind and heart might be touched.
