As upon a mount the Savior discoursed
Light and knowledge to the disciples coursed
And bit by bit they gained understanding
Of who before them, in reality, was standing
And He taught them who they were-
The very salt of the earth
And of what they could become
A light to which people would come
He gave them the beatitudes
Laws to live by with exactitude
That with forethought and assessing
They would be assured of many blessings
They learned He came not to destroy but to fulfill
In deed that His purpose might be instilled
For He taught them from truths He exemplified
That of God's judgments they could be notified
He illustrated what of them was desired
And that more was expected and required
He gave them counsel, invitation and warning
They showed acceptance of the words therein forming
He gave them a parable then to illustrate
That of those not solid their fall would be great
He let them know that life's storms would come
And of those caught unawares it would be fierce some
As He taught His teachings were befriended
That it is no wonder much was said when He ended
For He taught as one having authority within
Filled with doctrine, they were astonished with Him
