We Have Guidance to Accept and Follow - Hold on a Little Bit Longer
These are my impressions from choppy notes... the true source was wonderful
I would love comments
We've been given guidance to accept and follow
That we might stand closer within a divine circle
Thus, to feel faith upon our heads come aglow
That we might continually grow in a commitment cycle
May we assist each other in righteousness and truth
As each soul and heart needs constant nourishment
Let us not be hesitant, but stand tall and do
That hearts are stirred unto good, as they are meant
Who will recapture their testimony
And avoid the pitfalls of Satan?
Who will grow in brightness and certainty
To be counted present for amen?
Each of us can come to know the truth of all things
And recognize confirmations through the Holy Ghost
To the convincing unto warm tender feelings
For strength to remain faithful come pillar and post
May we ever have a desire to receive and to keep
That with eyes we'll see heaven's windows open
May our celestial pedigree ever run deep
That we ever feel there is so much to hope in
Then, through hard times, we will be stronger
We will be committed unto God's will
Then to hold on a little bit longer
That unto good works we've faith to fulfill
FROM PILLAR TO POST ( a new phrase to me was actually used by Elder Wickman )
found in http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-pil1.htm
[Q] From Rice Mixon: “Please shed light on the origin and meaning of From pillar to post. I recently came across the version from pile to pillar.”
[A] An interesting variation, showing how little the idiom is now understood. A lot of people are unsure even of the meaning, which is to be forced to go from one place to another in an unceremonious or fruitless manner, occasioning much frustration and anger in the process.
There are two theories about its origin among the experts. (You didn’t think you were going to get a straightforwardly simple answer, did you?)
One suggests that the post was a whipping post and that pillar actually refers to the pillory. The suggestion is that a criminal being punished in medieval times would first be tied to the post to be whipped and then put in the pillory for public amusement. One thing in favour of this idea is that the original version of our idiom, which first appeared around 1420, was the other way around: from post to pillar. But if it were true, you’d expect to get at least one recorded usage of from post to pillory and none are known. I count this a folk etymology of an especially ingenious type.
However, the alternative — the one that most dictionaries rather cautiously subscribe to — sounds even more outlandish. It is said that it derives from the ancient game of tennis, the version that is now called real tennis (court tennis in the USA) to distinguish it from its upstart successor, lawn tennis. The original game was played by personages of high status in rather complex indoor courts and it is supposed that the pillars and posts were parts of it.
World Wide Words subscribers have since suggested yet a third possible source, based on similar idioms in other languages, that is more plausible than either.
Pepijn Hendriks pointed out that Dutch has a very similar metaphor, van het kastje naar de muur (“from cupboard to wall”), which is mainly used in the expression van het kastje naar de muur gestuurd worden (“to be sent from cupboard to wall”). Because cupboards are usually attached to walls, the expression evokes an image of not getting very far towards the resolution of a problem. He suggests that as cupboard and wall are virtually equivalent in terms of their perceived position, so pillar and post similarly suggest two objects of similar kind that are likely to be close together.
Dominik Weber commented that a German expression refers to being sent von Pontius zu Pilatus. (Pepijn Hendriks tells me this is also known in Dutch.) Pontius and Pilatus were of course the same person: in English Pontius Pilate, the Roman procurator of Judea. Again, we have the idea of two closely equivalent or even identical references as the two halves of the idiom. Maria Escobar tells me that Spanish has the closely similar idiom ir de Herodes a Pilatos, to go from Herod to Pilate, as Jesus was before the Crucifixion.
These Dutch, German and Spanish idioms certainly suggest a model for the English phrase.

Teaching the Lord's Way
From my own thoughts and notes
When we're teaching the Lord's Way
We are empowered with words to say
There is less anxiety and fear
As we've the Holy Ghost that is near
As we focus on others needs and learning
We gain a sense for what they are yearning
There is less pride, less need to impress
As our greatest desire is to share and to bless
When we surrender our agency unto God
We discover a confidence that is broad
We become a conduit for the holy spirit
Which channels warmth to those who come near it
This is what it means to be on the Lord's errand
Unto our divine commission experienced first hand
In word and in spirit we become an agent
To prepare the world for the Savior's advent

In the Quiet Hour
my impressions from regional conference and my limited notetaking:
In the quiet hour
I look for inner strength
That when I face affliction,
I might find peace at length
When I put my trust in God
And His knowledge that is sure
Hope is born for comfort
That I might more endure
Then in my times of doubt
Anguish holds no power
For I know that God's about
To guide me in that hour
Am I really living as I should?
Do I let small events guide me?
Am I doing as the Savior would?
Am I repenting unto what I can be?
I know that I am free to act
And that good and evil abounds
Thus, I give care to what I attract
So on the Lord's side I am found
Shall I justify a lifestyle
That yields no peace or inner joy?
Or look for doctrinal loopholes while
I chase after what the world enjoys?
No, I will look unto all that's great
And let Jesus be at the helm
I will hearken Him and choose the holy life
And look forward to the celestial realm

Pioneers on their Quest for Zion
purely from my notes and thoughts from his talk:
Pioneers, on the their quest for Zion
Caravanned t'wards peace and freedom
And those when asked, joined the battalion
Which, thus, did expand God's kingdom
Six months this force of infantry
Walked the shifting tedious sand
And as such they marched valiantly
To spread the American land
Their legacy of faith and devotion
Planted Saints on California's soil
Despite prior privations and expulsions
The government needed the Saints for toil
And beneath the discoverers feet
Lay gold for the world to rush upon
Thus through the Salt Lake valley,
The railways did meet and travel on
This eased the pioneer journey
To gather in Deseret
Thus our thanks to the State that's sunny
That God smiles upon you, we'll not forget
May heaven's angels protect you always
May we remember that first infantry
May we with spiritual eyes look for ways
To remain here with our family tree

The Fight Song
Used by Stanford, University of California, Irvine, and UC Davis.
On our rugged Eastern foothills,
Stands our symbol clear and bold,
Big "C" means to fight and strive
And win for blue and Gold.
Golden Bear is ever watching;
Day by day he prowls,
And when he hears the tread
Of lowly Stanfurd red,
From his Lair he fiercely growls.
What's he say? He says:
Grrrrrah, Grrrrrrah!
Grrrr, Rrrr, Rrrrrah!
We are Sons of California,
Fighting for the Gold and Blue.
Palms of glory we will win
for Alma Mater true.
Stanfurd's men will soon be routed
By our dazzling "C",
And when we serpentine,
Their red will turn to green,
In our hour of victory!
What's he say? He says:
Grrrrrah, Grrrrrrah!
Grrrr, Rrrr, Rrrrrah!
(Unofficial Third Verse)
Down our rugged Eastern foothills,
Slides our symbol through the trees;
Big "C" means look out below
And stand back if you please.
Stanfurd's men will soon be routed
As it slips and falls,
And when you hear the crash
Of something getting smashed,
Then you'll know it hit Bowles Hall!
Big Game Titration Verse
We are Sons of California,
Fighting for the Gold and Blue.
Psalms and story and titration
Soon will be all through.
Stanford's men will soon be routed
By Lab-ra-tory
And when we stir this goo,
The red will turn to blue,
In this hour of Chemistry

The Battle Cry Has Been Given
The battle cry has been given
For a standard of righteousness
Who in purity can be proven?
Who can avoid permissiveness?
The seas of peer pressure causes
Forfeited blessings and shattered dreams
As onto jagged rocks it tosses
Those who ignore the lights strong beams
Who will commit without hesitation?
To their heritage, and stand to honor it?
Who will hold at bay all worldly temptation?
While their example lets good news transmit?
When life's goals become shallow
A gospel upbringing is forgotten
And opportunities soon narrow
When codes for conduct falter and soften
May the words of Mount Sinai
Come to thunder on those with ears
The commandments are our allies
Wherein a celestial glimpse appears
Who will open their heart to remember
That day of confirmation?
And how the Holy Ghost in ember
Was gifted without reservation?
Who'll be influenced by that sweet voice
Which testifies and whispers of truth?
Who'll be alert and make the good choice
When temptations prey on the dreams of youth?
Who will be known among the believers?
Those with charity and purity of thought!
Those who in example are the achievers
For in spirit and in faith they have fought
1 Tim 4:12
Be thou an example of the believers,
in word, in conversation, in charity,
in spirit, in faith, in purity
Be Thou An Example

To All of You Who Say Church is Boring
To all of you who say church is boring
There is something you are simply ignoring
We're more than just a body, we've a spirit
That knows God's voice and longs to hear it
We were with Him before we came to earth
And He's our Father in Heaven...He gives us worth
He, with perfect knowledge, knows who we really are
And we can learn of Him for His love is never far

The Flood
The sky shows
And trembles
As winds blow
And moisture assembles
A rainstorm
Is longing
To show and perform
It's gift of prolonging
The raindrops
Bring cleansing
As it showers crops
But... there's more condensing
A flood plain
Overflows
The precipitation strains
And trepidation grows
The cloud's burst
And shudder
For destructions worst
As life below does sputter
A lone arc
In motion
While the sky is dark
And the world is an ocean
A clearing
And sunshine
The cease of tearing
For in the skies ...a sign
A rainbow
A promise
Of God's love in show
To light the world with bliss
And trembles
As winds blow
And moisture assembles

The Gospel Truly Can Be a Light Shining in the Darkness
Heavenly Father's gospel truly can be
A "light shining in darkness"
With the Savior's role helping us to see
The great plan of happiness
May His blessings be ours, now and always
As we love, give, and serve- to walk in His ways
May we seek for light, to fully understand
And feel His guidance is ever close at hand

Isaiah 60
In the last days, Israel shall rise again as a mighty nation—Gentile peoples shall join with and serve her—Zion shall be established—Finally, they shall dwell in celestial splendor.
1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
4 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.
5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.
6 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the Lord.
7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory.
8 Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?
9 Surely the aisles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the Lord thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.
10 And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.
11 Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.
12 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.
13 The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
14 The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the Lord, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15 Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations.
16 Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
17 For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.
18 Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.
19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
20 Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.
21 Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.
22 A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the Lord will hasten it in his time.

There is a Law
There is a law
Irrevocably decreed
Upon which all
Heavenly blessings proceed
What might this be
Through which all good things flow?
Faith- it is the key
In Christ, whom we can know
As such we pray
In His name for mercy
He is the way
For the blessing we seek
There is no habit
That He can't help us shake
That we might inhabit
God's kingdom, in sleeps wake

Throughout All Eras of History
Throughout all the eras of history
Rulers have sought for enduring fame
For this some used tyranny and misery
To build up their power of imperial reign
But the test of time gives a chortle
As the empire crumbles away
For no matter, we are but mortal
And we all have to die some day
In contrast, one ever humble
Who was as a servant of sacrifice
Was truly the one most noble
And endured the immortal price
He spoke of spiritual hunger
As well as physical needs
He would that we not suffer
And when we come unto Him, He feeds
He gives us rest unto our souls
For His yoke is easy and His burden is light
To feed the flock of God is our role
And He grants us power to serve with might

Out of Reverence We Avoid Repetition of God's Name
Out of reverence, we avoid repetition
Of our glorious Heavenly Father's name
For prayer is a humble petition
And no two prayers should be the same
Thus it is for Aaron and Melchizedek
That the two forms of priesthood are named after
Each man having been called to direct
In holy functions with degrees of order
The lesser priesthood has keys from heaven
For sin’s remission, they minister
Alongside the angels, they work often
Through the ordinances they administer
The greater priesthood too has keys
That causes the heavens to open
To lay blessings conditioned upon faith and deeds
As Heavenly Father’s words
flow in
The priesthood order is grouped in quorums
Where decisions are made as wisdom comes forth
For there is holiness and lowliness of heart
As with charity, the fruits of the spirit impart
And he who presides... has governing power
O'er that for which he has been to called to do
The church functions with wisdom and order
As we then witness that we sustain them to
trying to simplify an old poem...
Out of reverence, we avoid repetition of God's name
To do otherwise is to be disrespectful and call down shame
Thus we use the names of Aaron and Melchizedek
For the two forms of God's holy order that does direct
The lesser priesthood has keys from heaven to minister
Along with the angels, for ordinances there to administer
They've the letter of the gospel as there mission
That through our repentance our sins are in remission
The greater priesthood has keys that the heavens do open
To lay blessings conditioned on faith for hope's end
That the Saints might know the will and voice of the Lord
And righteously unify to be of one accord
The priesthood has order and is found in quorums
Where decisions are made as wisdom forth comes
For there is holiness and loliness of heart
With charity, so the fruits of the spirit impart
And he who presides... has governing power
O'er that for which he has been to called to do
The church functions with wisdom and order
As we then witness that we sustain them too

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 107
Revelation on priesthood, given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, dated March 28, 1835. HC 2: 209–217. On the date named the Twelve met in council, confessing their individual weaknesses and shortcomings, expressing repentance, and seeking the further guidance of the Lord. They were about to separate on missions to districts assigned. Although portions of this section were received on the date named, the historical records affirm that various parts were received at sundry times, some as early as November 1831.
1–6, There are two priesthoods: the Melchizedek and the Aaronic; 7–12, Those who hold the Melchizedek Priesthood have power to officiate in all offices in the Church; 13–17, The bishopric presides over the Aaronic Priesthood, which administers in outward ordinances; 18–20, The Melchizedek Priesthood holds the keys of all spiritual blessings; the Aaronic Priesthood holds the keys of the ministering of angels; 21–38, The First Presidency, the Twelve, and the Seventy constitute the presiding quorums, whose decisions are to be made in unity and righteousness; 39–52, Patriarchal order established from Adam to Noah; 53–57, Ancient saints assembled at Adam-ondi-Ahman, and the Lord appeared to them; 58–67, The Twelve are to set the officers of the Church in order; 68–76, Bishops serve as common judges in Israel; 77–84, The First Presidency and the Twelve constitute the highest court in the Church; 85–100, Priesthood presidents govern their respective quorums.

The Mobile Ribbon of Humanity
The mobile ribbon of humanity
Pulsates in an endless stream
The pace of life in singularity
Seldom leaves time for things unseen
But, where does all this hurrying move toward?
And what of it is for eternal gain?
Thus the soul of man reaches out heavenward
To ask of God when energy does wain
When suffering enters a house of good health
Or life's candle flickers with little wick left
We pause in our pursuit of prosperity and wealth
And realize without God we are utterly inept
Our heart felt questions transcend mortality
As they're not answered in academia's books
But, as one reaches out to embrace eternity
And search for, in prayer, what hurrying overlooks
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart
And lean not unto thine own understanding
And in all ways acknowledge Him, and He will impart
Direction for thy paths of eternal landing
Look unto God with firmness of mind
And pray unto Him with exceeding faith
And you will find answers like no other kind
As an unseen warmth gathers round in wait

Where you are headed reflects upon your countenance
Regardless of your best efforts to ignore or conceal
Each choice ripples its effect to determine circumstance
And this is a blessing, for the truth it does reveal
There is no better way to find your course and purpose
Than to look to the Son and surrender to His Light
For He knows us individually, through infinite purchase
And He's ever there for conscience, brightness, and delight
Our Savior's sacrifice does ever call us back
As we're ever connected to His redeeming blood
He can carry our load, for alone the strength we lack
And the wine press does prove, how much His love does flood
In daily matters, there are challenges and strife
May these words press upon your mind and your heart
To never give up on yourself and your purpose of life
For what lies ahead is glorious, when we seek light to chart

The Evil You Do- Will Boomerang Back at You
The evil you do
Will boomerang back at you
Upon your own head
Bringing to you, your own dread
The reason is clear
It's that you, too, might know fear
And as you're soundly struck
Perhaps, next time... you'll think before you chuck!
Psalms 7: 11-16
God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.
He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.
Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.
His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.
THE BOOK OF ALMA
THE SON OF ALMA
CHAPTER 41
In the resurrection men come forth to a state of endless happiness or endless misery—Wickedness never was happiness—Carnal men are without God in the world—Every person receives again in the restoration the characteristics and attributes acquired in mortality. About 73 B.C.
1 And now, my son, I have somewhat to say concerning the restoration of which has been spoken; for behold, some have awrested the scriptures, and have gone far bastray because of this thing. And I perceive that thy mind has been cworried also concerning this thing. But behold, I will explain it unto thee.
2 I say unto thee, my son, that the plan of restoration is requisite with the justice of God; for it is requisite that all things should be restored to their proper order. Behold, it is requisite and just, according to the power and resurrection of Christ, that the soul of man should be restored to its body, and that every apart of the body should be restored to itself.
3 And it is requisite with the ajustice of God that men should be bjudged according to their cworks; and if their works were good in this life, and the desires of their hearts were good, that they should also, at the last day, be drestored unto that which is good.
4 And if their works are evil they shall be arestored unto them for evil. Therefore, all things shall be brestored to their proper order, every thing to its natural frame—cmortality raised to dimmortality, ecorruption to incorruption—raised to fendless happiness to ginherit the kingdom of God, or to endless misery to inherit the kingdom of the devil, the one on one hand, the other on the other—
5 The one raised to ahappiness according to his desires of happiness, or good according to his desires of good; and the other to evil according to his desires of evil; for as he has desired to do evil all the day long even so shall he have his reward of evil when the night cometh.
6 And so it is on the other hand. If he hath repented of his sins, and desired righteousness until the end of his days, even so he shall be rewarded unto righteousness.
7 aThese are they that are redeemed of the Lord; yea, these are they that are taken out, that are delivered from that endless night of darkness; and thus they stand or fall; for behold, they are their own bjudges, whether to do good or do evil.
8 Now, the decrees of God are aunalterable; therefore, the way is prepared that bwhosoever will may cwalk therein and be saved.
9 And now behold, my son, do not risk aone more offense against your God upon those points of doctrine, which ye have hitherto risked to commit sin.
10 Do not suppose, because it has been spoken concerning restoration, that ye shall be restored from sin to happiness. Behold, I say unto you, awickedness never was bhappiness.
11 And now, my son, all men that are in a state of anature, or I would say, in a bcarnal state, are in the cgall of bitterness and in the dbonds of iniquity; they are ewithout God in the world, and they have gone fcontrary to the nature of God; therefore, they are in a state contrary to the nature of happiness.
12 And now behold, is the meaning of the word restoration to take a thing of a natural state and place it in an unnatural state, or to place it in a state opposite to its nature?
13 O, my son, this is not the case; but the meaning of the word restoration is to bring back again aevil for evil, or carnal for carnal, or devilish for devilish—good for that which is good; righteous for that which is righteous; just for that which is just; merciful for that which is merciful.
14 Therefore, my son, see that you are merciful unto your brethren; deal ajustly, bjudge righteously, and do cgood continually; and if ye do all these things then shall ye receive your dreward; yea, ye shall have emercy restored unto you again; ye shall have justice restored unto you again; ye shall have a righteous judgment restored unto you again; and ye shall have good rewarded unto you again.
15 For that which ye do asend out shall return unto you again, and be restored; therefore, the word restoration more fully condemneth the sinner, and justifieth him not at all.

CHAPTER 41
In the resurrection men come forth to a state of endless happiness or endless misery—Wickedness never was happiness—Carnal men are without God in the world—Every person receives again in the restoration the characteristics and attributes acquired in mortality. About 73 B.C.

When We Turn Our Backs on God, We Are Lost
When we turn our backs on God, we are lost
On a path of pain to no where as the cost
When we turn around the pain is even more
As we find what we've truly been seeking for
The love we feel enfolds us unto shame
That of God we questioned and then did blame
Then back and forth, we study God's laws out
Until within us we are strong and without doubt
It's a small price to pay to find our way
Into God's arms to trust and obey
Then comes the feeling of gratitude
For second chances and the grandest view!

A Moment of Meditation
A moment of meditation
Can give rise to a timeless thought
That breaks through our hesitation
To take a rest when we're distraught
Though schedules and duties beckon on
Our minds demand for breaks to ponder
We find our destinies beacon out strong
When we allow our minds to dream... yet not wander
Perhaps the best thing is to start with memories
And remember the precious moments of life
The times when we were close as familes
And united together to endure a strife
How grateful we should be for our lives on earth
And that we can live as families while we're here
How precious is that moment of an infant birth
And how speechless is the love that is found there
How far in our past can we trust we remember?
For when I look at pictures, I long for more to see
I feel there's a veil and we've a past that's in slumber
As I look into a child's eyes something awakens in me
Why are we here? When we die, is there more?
These thought come when I pause and let out steam
Life is more than obtaining and mundane chore
It's about holding to memories and living to dream

We get depressed and Satan Steps In
We get depressed and Satan steps in
To impress us with longings to sin
Then, it's a downward spiral we cannot win
For we learn to escape and ignor
We become pride-filled, self-centered, and more
As the good things of life now but bore
When we're choosing what's wrong, where is the joy?
Where is the strongest feelings between a girl and boy?
Where is the laughter that lifts and delights-
And raises us up to enjoy the clearer sight?
Where is the peace in slumber that drifts along?
How do we ever really know where we belong?
Whom can we trust to have a listening ear?
Who has quiet whisperings that can calm our fears?
Without love for God, there's endless need
There's an emptiness one cannot feed
We can't substitute it for anything
For it's what causes our spirits to sing
When we're depressed it's as spiritual death
It's a pain enclosing that knows not rest
When we open our hearts to possibilities
We find our minds quickened with new abilities

Your Choice of Music Dims Your Soul
Your choice of music dims your soul
Reduces who you are within your goals
For it deadens love and stirs an endless need
That can't be fed as to but pain it does lead
Raunchy is nothing more than raunchy does
As these composers have not light in their cause
Their lyrics are ever meant to shock and stir
And, of our moral judgment, to block and blur
The parents of teens can attest
That children who listen, rebel and test
It changes their dress and countenance
And in how they study, speak, act, and dance
And when the music is cut off from them
There's great disturbance and mayhem
As though a withdrawl from a substance
So parents beware and take a stance

Which is the Greatest Commandment Asked of All?
Which is the greatest commandments of all?
That we center our hearts on God
And recognize within us, our call
To further spread His love abroad
As His children, He does instill
Purpose in our unique roles,
Through the enjoyment of free will,
Comes talents to share with souls
It is through service that we find
Our brotherhood of nobility,
The treasure of being kind,
And the increase of ability.
Which is the greatest commandment asked of all?
That we, with all our heart, soul, and mind, love our God
For thus we recognize our role and to Him ever call
That we might render service and spread His love abroad
As children of God, in purpose, we're fulfilled
For sparks of nobility enlighten our minds
That where e'er we go- our hearts are ever filled
With the joy of goodness, through service, one finds
instilled: infused slowly, by degrees
into mind or feelings

Surrender to God
Only in complete surrender
Do we rise above selfishness
Only then are we more tender
With Christ lighting our consciousness
May we rise above the sordid
And avoid the pull of nature
May we think of what the Lord did
And spiritually grow mature
Just as we die when the spirit leaves
So too our spirit dies when we shut out God
When we're wicked- how our spirit grieves
Let's abandon our worldly facade
There's something superior in our ability
As we see we've each a great work to do
We become His miracles when we've humility
When we, like Gideon, believe and follow through-
He had but three hundred men
To fight off the army encompassed
But, with the spirit of the Lord in him
Ability to save Israel did come fast
You will achieve beyond your dreams
If you avoid the evil edge
Act for yourself, with celestial esteem
And be strong and valiant in your pledge
Acting for Ourselves and Not Being Acted Upon
James E. Faust
Ensign Nov. 1998, 45
Judg. 6: 15
And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
Judg. 7
Gideon’s army is reduced to 300—They frighten Midianite armies with trumpets and lights—Midianites fight among themselves, flee, and are defeated by Israel.
Acting for Ourselves and Not Being Acted Upon
In a day where young men
Like to live upon the edge
There's hazards and mayhem
That adds thrills to each challenge
Life is far too precious
To throw away to chance
A toehold that's precarious
Buzzes like abused substance
To truly test your strength
Try honoring your priesthood
Try living like a Saint
And developing your manhood
Learn to act for yourself
And not to be acted upon
When someone controls your strength
To yourself you do not belong
When you're leaning towards an act
That is wrongful in any way
Leave your identity intact
And from that temptation stay
There comes a time to stand
On the side of courage and trust
There to rise from the sinking sand
Upon God's laws that are just
It's through spiritual attainment
We find in the center of our being
The Holy Ghost's in obtainment
For counsel that's ever freeing

2 Ne. 2: 26
And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the commandments which God hath given.
The Power of Faith and Prayer
It is time to believe
In the Power of prayer
For therein we receive
Sustenance and care
It is time to apply
Faith in great abundance
For therein's a supply
Of love, hope, and guidance
And when we are found there
May we be generous
In the thougths which we share
To Heavenly Father and Jesus
They who've giv'n us this day
And our very breath
Give us words when we pray
And a sweet warmth within our breast
Our faith and hope plants a seed
Which prayer then germinates
For growth, reguardless the need
Even in desperate straits
The arms of tender mercy
Ever reach out to give aid
Let us kneel in urgency
As unseen hands to us are laid
After months of drought
Opportunities did make bare
And there can be no dought
That Heavenly Father has been there
Ever sweet has been each day
Of humbly kneeling in trust
While searching for God to light the way
We've felt His love dwell in us

Twins
The bedroom was painted
Where the double cribs lay
And all they'd anticipated
Did in her womb ever play
Still there was no time to rest
Nor in comfort could they sleep
As reflux flew oft to her breast
And hands to her belly, did watchkeep
She stroked the onesies
And folded the blankets
He tended to duties
With stud finders and brackets
After years of waiting
There was so much to do
With vows for more relating
And loved ones celebrating too

We Often Underestimate the Power of God's Word
We often underestimate
The power of God's word
The natural man it does sedate
When what we've read to ears are heard
A soul will dwindle in unbelief
If without these pages
Therein is vision from deceit
As the seeker more engages
How better, then, to turn around?
With words before our eyes!
Ever with us may they be found
To guide us and improve our lives
The power of God's word
The natural man it does sedate
When what we've read to ears are heard
A soul will dwindle in unbelief
If without these pages
Therein is vision from deceit
As the seeker more engages
How better, then, to turn around?
With words before our eyes!
Ever with us may they be found
To guide us and improve our lives
We Often Underestimate the Lord's Redeeming Power
We often underestimate
The Lord's redeeming power
It's only us who hesitate
To be saved in that desperate hour
His mercy fills the heart with peace
His love does ever flow
May our humility increase
For the Shepherd calls: "Come Follow"
Oft to our knees may we descend
To feel what He does share
He strengthens the weak without end
There we find, He's been ever there!

Everywhere People Scurry
Everywhere people scurry
In a seemingly endless stream
Life lived in such a hurry
Distracts us from our dream
Then comes the time of crisis
When life's candle wanes and dims
There to realize the prices
Of love, as each new tear brims
Oh, the questions we embrace
While searching for heaven's peace
Amongst the distance of space
Surely, a divine answer will appease?
A moment of contemplation
And, how the memories flood
Upon life's uttermost creations
The children- our future's dear lifeblood
The marvel of the perfectly formed child
The tiny toes, the delicate fingers
Such precious cargo turns the heart mild
For in their eyes, heaven's view still lingers
Now the soul at peace is filled with love
Warmed by feelings ever so tender
And, then, a longing to travel above
For the promise of rest, and newness to enter

Remembering the Savior
What shall we always remember?
When, each Sabbath, we come to covenant anew?
What does it mean to be a member?
When we take the sacrament, what do we do?
If we ever seek to know the Lord's will
As He too sought the will of the Father
We'll have strength for His works to fulfill
Knowing whom we love, we obey, and we honor
We answer to Christ, as we daily strive
And experience thoughts, words, and actions
We'll ever have to answer to Him for our lives
As He's ransomed each debt and obligation
All that justice could demand of us for our sins
Jesus Christ has paid by His suffering and death
He offers the gift of forgiveness, with conditions...
When we are repentant, only then, does He pay the debt
We can look to the Savior for help. We need not fear
And as we look to Him, He Lights every thought, every deed
As His Atonement covers all the things we do here
He has the power to protect us and minister to each need

How Shall We Find Our Way
How shall we find our way
Midst the gloom of today?
By being led by a chain and a prod?
Or by seeking Christ's yoke and His rod?
Ever there's a counterfeit
To every good that we'd benefit
One way helps us to grow and know peace
While the other's demands never cease
Midst the gloom of today?
By being led by a chain and a prod?
Or by seeking Christ's yoke and His rod?
Ever there's a counterfeit
To every good that we'd benefit
One way helps us to grow and know peace
While the other's demands never cease
I Have a Prayer Regarding Strength
I have a prayer regarding strength
For all mankind upon the earth
That each will extend their length
To help another know of their worth
From the least to the greatest
And the greatest o the least
Working together with full zest
From the North, South, West, and East
If no student was left behind
Because citizens chose to assist
To advance the young in their mind
Think of the well being that would exist
The overweight paired with an athlete
Think of the power formed with control
Think of how healthier we'd be
As we're lighter to accomplish each goal
The unemployed are welcomed
To come, learn, watch, and to see
For their minds to expand and become
Something better, something to be
Let's not forget the elderly
Who best to help our youth?
They've time to work dutifully
To school behaviors unto truth
Those with beauty could help the unkempt
To add freshness to their day
Perhaps then they'll be more adept
With new confidence along the way
And what of those we choose to avoid?
The criminal or the addict
What if we filled up their void
And they overcame choices that afflict
What if we filled up the parks
With children, fun and with laughter
What new friendships we would spark!
And less counselors we'd be after
What if we each had less stuff
And more family time and vacations
Maybe chores wouldn't be so tough
As we simplified our schedules and stations
What if we each opened our eyes
And saw a way to improve the earth
Even the waste lands and onto the skies
In it's beauty, proclaims that man is of worth
For all mankind upon the earth
That each will extend their length
To help another know of their worth
From the least to the greatest
And the greatest o the least
Working together with full zest
From the North, South, West, and East
If no student was left behind
Because citizens chose to assist
To advance the young in their mind
Think of the well being that would exist
The overweight paired with an athlete
Think of the power formed with control
Think of how healthier we'd be
As we're lighter to accomplish each goal
The unemployed are welcomed
To come, learn, watch, and to see
For their minds to expand and become
Something better, something to be
Let's not forget the elderly
Who best to help our youth?
They've time to work dutifully
To school behaviors unto truth
Those with beauty could help the unkempt
To add freshness to their day
Perhaps then they'll be more adept
With new confidence along the way
And what of those we choose to avoid?
The criminal or the addict
What if we filled up their void
And they overcame choices that afflict
What if we filled up the parks
With children, fun and with laughter
What new friendships we would spark!
And less counselors we'd be after
What if we each had less stuff
And more family time and vacations
Maybe chores wouldn't be so tough
As we simplified our schedules and stations
What if we each opened our eyes
And saw a way to improve the earth
Even the waste lands and onto the skies
In it's beauty, proclaims that man is of worth
The Ability to Think Straight
The ability to think straight
Is a principle of success
We need to develop this trait
For the common sense we'll access
We need to think until it hurts
And accurately listen too
With trained ears we hear those alerts
To activate an instinctive tool
It's important to act slowly
And to understand all the facts
Stimulated thoughts require growing
There to consider all the impacts
Thinking is a process of worrying
That a solution might come about
Then as a bank account we're carrying
Stored up processes providing clout
Sloppy inconclusive thinking
Is developed through bad habits
We're well-grounded or soon sinking
To know success, one must grasp this
As the mind becomes more trained
The subconscious aids in what to do
Through this apparatus that's ingrained
We learn to discern truths in all matters too
All aspects of life need to be sized
To find the equilibrium desired
For if only the mind's exercised
Health, church, and family become expired
To be good at management takes experience
And the ability to have vision and insight
It takes humble petitions and obedience
For then God will reveal if the course is right
There will be failures despite all the pain stakes
With lessons therein to be learned and then heeded
For, then the belief in oneself all anew re awakes
Unto a second opportunity that arises to be seeded
There are many ways to fund a common sense bank
The most essential is inquiring of God in prayer
But, even then one might speedily tank
If we're inconsistent in application and in care
Those who think straight don't have moral problems
Nor do they struggle with the word of wisdom or tithing
As they are consistently working on their blems
And, by the promptings of spirit they're abiding

About Me
The Captain of the Soul- Invictus/ The Soul's Captain by Elder Orson F. Whitney
Invictus by William E. Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance,
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
The Soul's Captain [The Answer]
by Elder Orson F. Whitney
of the Quorum of the Twelve
Art thou in truth? Then what of him
Who bought thee with his blood?
Who plunged into devouring seas
And snatched thee from the flood?
Who bore for all our fallen race
What none but him could bear.
The God who died that man might live,
And endless glory share?
Of what avail thy vaunted strength,
Apart from his vast might?
Pray that his Light may pierce the gloom,
That thou mayest see aright.
Men are as bubbles on the wave,
As leaves upon the tree.
Thou, captain of thy soul, forsooth
Who gave that place to thee?
Free will is thine — free agency
To wield for right or wrong;
But thou must answer unto him
To whom all souls belong.
Bend to the dust that head "unbowed,"
Small part of Life's great whole!
And see in him, and him alone,
The Captain of thy soul
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

He's Been There Before
He's Been There Before by Elder Troy Whittle
The alarm bell rings at 6:30, I stumble to my feet
I grab my companions bedding and pull off his sheets
A groan fills the room, is it already time to arise?
It seems like just a second ago I was able to shut my eyes
The morning activities follow- study, prayer and such
When it's time to leave the apartment, you feel you haven't accomplished much
"We have a super day planned," My comp. says with a grin
I lowly utter a faithless breath, "Yeah, if anyone lets us in."
With the word of God and my faithful Schwinn, we ride off in the street prepared to
Face another day of humidity and heat
It's 9:30 in the evening, the day is almost through
My champion and I are riding home not accomplishing what we thought to do
We ride up to the mailbox, hoping to receive a lot
Only to look inside and hear my echo reverberate "air Box"
We go up to our apartment, the day is now complete
The only thing to show for our work is a case of blistery feet
It's past 10:30 p.m. My companion is fast asleep,
Silence engulfs me all about and I begin to weep
In the midst of sadness, I kneel down to pray
I need to talk to father, but I'm not sure what to say
"Oh, Father" I begin, "What happened to us today?
I thought we'd teach somebody, but everyone was away
My hands, my aching hands- worn, hurt and beat;
If our area was any smaller, we'd have knocked every street"
"Why on missions are the days so much alike?
The only difference about today was the flat tire on my bike
Will you send some cooler weather? The heat is killing me
I sweat so bad, it gets in my eyes, it's very hard to see"
"Why do I have to wear a helmet, isn't your protection enough?
People always laugh at me, and call me stupid stuff
Please send us investigators so I may give them what they lack
I want to give them Books of Mormon, the weight of them hurts my back"
"And what about my family: They don't have much to say
I'm sick of not hearing from home day after day after day
Oh Father, Why am I here am I just wasting time?
Sometimes I just want to go home, I'm sorry but that's on my mind"
"My companion, Heavenly Father, what are you giving me?
"The way he rides his bicycle, I don't think he can see
Now you have it, I can't go on, I don't know what to do
That, my Father in Heaven, is the prayer I have for you"
My prayer now finished, I stand up, then jump right into bed
I need my rest for tomorrow, we have another long day ahead
Sleep start to overtake me, I seem to drift away
Then it seems a vision takes me to another time in another day
I'm standing alone on the hill. The view is very nice
A man walks to wards me and says, "My name is Jesus Christ"
Tears of joy well up inside, I fall down to His feet
"Arise," He states, "Follow me to the shade. You and I need to speak"
My attention's towards my Savior, total and complete
He says, "Your mission is similar of what happened to me
I understand how you feel, I know what you're going through
In fact, it would be fair to say I've felt the same as you"
"I even know how you felt when no one listened to you
At times I felt not quite sure what else I could do
I know you don't like to ride a bicycle, for you a car would be sweet
Just remember the donkey I rode wasn't equipped with 21 speeds"
"I understand you don't like sweating, in fact it's something you hate
I remember when I sweat blood from ev’ry pore, oh the agony was great!
I see you don't like your companion- you'd rather have someone else-
I once had a companion named Judas who sold my life for wealth"
"It's hard to wear a helmet and have people make fun of you
I remember when they put thorns on my head and called me King of the Jews
So you feel burdened down by the weight of your pack
I recall how heavy the cross was when they slammed it on my back"
"Your hands hurt from tracting and knocking on doors all day
I guess when they pounded nails into mine, I ached in a similar way
It's hard not to hear from home when your family's not there to see
I lost communication on the cross and cried, "Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?"
"We have a lot in common, but there's a difference between us you see
I endured to the end and finished my mission, so follow and do like me"
He embraced me with His arms and His light filled me with His love
With tears in my eyes I watched as He went back to the Father above
I stood with awe and wonder when a beep rang in my head
I listened and heard the alarm, then realized I was in my bed
My companion let out a groan, "6:30 already, no way!"
I sat up and said, "Come on, I'll even carry your scriptures today!"
No matter what we go through, when we feel we can't take more
Just stop and think about Jesus Christ, He's been there before
