God's Words Bring Me Back to Light

What modern day words

From our latter day prophet

Have you more than heard

But kept with you for profit?

Added to my bible

Is a quote that oft I read

When my faith feels feeble

I recall it's God I need

And I come to myself

To a time the spirit burned

In a way more than felt

Because God spoke and I learned

May we all do likewise

For it is easy to forget

In this world of darkness

We've Christ's glorious light within!

Yes, the soul illuminates

We dare not go passive

For Satan looms and he waits

To dim God's words for they free lives

Come and be nearer to God

And bask in the spirit

Study, fast, pray, and go serve

And help others hear Him

We really are born again

Spiritually unto light

God's work of righteousness, then

Keeps it burning bright

[Verse 1] What modern day words From our latter day prophet Have you more than heard And kept with you for profit? Added to my bible Is a quote that oft I reed When my faith feels feeble I recall, it's God, I need [Pre-Chorus] And I come to myself To a time the spirit burned In a way more than felt Because God spoke and I learned [Chorus] Come and be nearer to God Come and be nearer to God Bask in the spirit And let your soul be stirred Study, fast, pray, and serve Study, fast, pray, and go serve Help others hear Him And keep His words in you [Verse 2] May we all do likewise For it is easy to forget In this world of darkness We've Christ's glorious light within! Once the soul illuminates We dare not go passive For Satan looms and he waits To dim God's words for they free lives [Pre-Chorus] And I come to myself When the fire starts to wane Back to simple truth Back to heaven's saving name [Chorus] Come and be nearer to God Come and be nearer to God Bask in the spirit And let your soul be stirred Study, fast, pray, and serve Study, fast, pray, and go serve Help others hear Him And keep His words in you [Bridge] We really are born again Spiritually unto light God's work of righteousness, then Keeps it burning bright When the night comes close And the world feels cold and bare I will turn my heart And find Him waiting there [Final Chorus] Come and be nearer to God Come and be nearer to God Bask in the spirit And let your soul be stirred Study, fast, pray, and serve Study, fast, pray, and go serve Help others hear Him And keep His words in you We really are born again We really are born again Spiritually unto light And we walk in Him

“For I, the Lord, the king of heaven, will be their king, and I will be a LIGHT unto them FOREVER, that hear my words.” 2 Nephi 10:14 “That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.” Doctrine and Covenants 50:24

I found the inspiration from Jeanine. Thank you!

I've had this quote taped to the back page of my bible for the last 15 years... it is one I love. "The experience of each individual who is really born again is similar to the experience of Alma and the sons of Mosiah, although it may not be so dramatic. The effect upon each person's life is likewise similar. No person whose soul is illuminated by the burning Spirit of God can in this world of sin and dense darkness remain passive. He is driven by an irresistible urge to fit himself to be an ACTIVE AGENT of God in furthering righteousness and in freeing the lives and minds of men from the bondage of sin. God help all honest men to be born again, and come to be of sound understanding, and to know the word of God, and maintain the spirit thereof by STUDY, FASTING, PRAYER, and WORK, that we may be blessed with HIS POWER and authority." Great Trees Deep Roots- Joseph's Role in Restoring the Savior's Gospel

A witness can't be denied
Forgotten or ignored
As, from it you cannot hide
For it came from the Lord

Honed and prepared
He was in need of strength
Humbly he shared
How he developed faith

The keeping of records
And the bearing of truth
Has come through great efforts
As great trees have deep roots

As the founder of a cause
How would he lead? at what cost?
Would he be willing to die?
Who would take his place? and why?

Sometimes all you have
Is your faith to hold on to
And the hope that perhaps
All your family will be true

Amidst a war of words
How can you know what's right?
Let your questions be heard
For wisdom, seek God's light

Scriptures come with power
Unto the heart of man
Teaching any hour
Heaven remains open

[Verse 1] A witness can't be denied Forgotten or ignored As, from it you cannot hide For it came from the Lord Honed and prepared He was in need of strength Humbly he shared How he developed faith [Chorus] The keeping of records And the bearing of truth Has come through great efforts As great trees have deep roots As the founder of a cause How would he lead? at what cost? [Verse 2] Sometimes all you have Is your faith to hold on to And the hope that perhaps All your family will be true Amidst a war of words How can you know what's right? Let your questions be heard For wisdom, seek God's light [Bridge] Scriptures come with power Unto the heart of man Teaching any hour Heaven remains open [Chorus] The keeping of records And the bearing of truth Has come through great efforts As great trees have deep roots As the founder of a cause How would he lead? at what cost? Would he be willing to die? Who would take his place? and why?

Thoughts are from this series on youtube

Joseph Smith's preparation, faith, and leadership in restoring the Savior's gospel.
The tree roots metaphor highlights the enduring strength from keeping records and bearing truth, referencing challenges like a "war of words" and the need to seek divine wisdom.

Shielded from the Enemy- Joseph Smith

Why should I now yield

To the enemy near?

The Lord is my shield

I'll not tremble in fear.

What can mere man do,

If the Lord is my friend?

I'll see this life through

To the ultimate end!

I'll follow this course

I'll follow God's plan

I'll know not remorse

For He is at hand!

Shielded from the enemy

Until his martyrdom

This prophet's friend, indeed,

Was God's own living Son!

[Verse 1] Why should I now yield To the enemy near? The Lord is my shield I'll not tremble in fear. What can mere man do, If the Lord is my friend? I'll see this life through To the ultimate end! [Pre-Chorus] I'll follow this course I'll follow God's plan I'll know not remorse For He is at hand! [Chorus] The Lord is my shield The Lord is my shield I'll not tremble in fear [Verse 2] Shielded from the enemy Until his martyrdom This prophet's friend, indeed, Was God's own living Son! I'll not deny Jesus And His hand in my life I testify He is with us [Bridge] He is both justice and mercy He sends forth Truth and Light [Chorus] The Lord is my shield The Lord is my shield I'll not tremble in fear

Chapter Twenty-Two: The Martyrdom - Church of Jesus Christ

www.churchofjesuschrist.org/manual/church...

God Almighty is my shield, and what can man do if God is my friend. I shall not be sacrificed until my time comes. Then I shall be offered freely.” 2. One of the most pointed and poignant of Joseph Smith’s martyrdom prophecies was made to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in the spring of 1844.

Tap Into Life

Tap into that light
That fills you with life
Pray with all your might
Find the love to strive

Tap into living water
Found in Holy Writ
The love of Heavenly Father
Reaches deep within

Tap into His insight
Listen and obey
Trust all will be alright
All will be okay

Tap into the good part
That inspires man
Pray. Believe. God will impart
To you a plan

Why limit yourself
To just a narrow view?
Seek the Lord for help
What would He have you do?

Pursue His love and blessings
Enjoy this life with faith
Each sin is for addressing
Learn the lesson and gain strength

Joseph Smith did all this
For he understood
That when you tap into a tree
It is ever good

You need a little patience
Past the cold seasons of life
The flow is felt warmly
As your Spirit comes alive

[Verse 1] Tap into that light That fills you with life Pray with all your might Find the love to strive Tap into living water Found in Holy Writ The love of Heavenly Father Reaches deep within [Pre-Chorus] Tap into His insight Listen and obey Trust all will be alright All will be okay [Chorus] Tap into life (Tap into life) Pray and believe Pray and believe God will impart God will impart A plan for you A plan for you [Verse 2] Tap into the good part That inspires man Pray. Believe. God will impart To you a plan Why limit yourself To just a narrow view? Seek the Lord for help What would He have you do? [Pre-Chorus] Pursue His love and blessings Enjoy this life with faith Each sin is for addressing Learn the lesson and gain strength [Chorus] Tap into life (Tap into life) Pray and believe Pray and believe God will impart God will impart A plan for you A plan for you [Bridge] Joseph Smith did all this For he understood That when you tap into a tree It is ever good You need a little patience Past the cold seasons of life The flow is felt warmly As your Spirit comes alive [Final Chorus] Tap into life (Tap into life) Pray and believe Pray and believe God will impart God will impart A plan for you A plan for you

The song uses a maple tree sap-tapping metaphor to describe spiritual connection, explicitly referencing Joseph Smith’s prayer from James 1:5 that led to divine revelation.

Clean Chance

These worthy young priests

Blessing the sacrament

Are as sentinels-

Guards of this covenant

Our holy chapel

Their sacred calling

Offering the Lord's

Emblems for cleansing

To receive this gift

Though repetitive

Requires obedience

Renew your motive

[Verse 1]

These worthy young priests

Blessing the sacrament

Are as sentinels

Guards of this covenant

Our holy chapel

Their sacred calling

Offering the Lord's emblems

For cleansing and for healing

[Pre-Chorus]

To receive this gift

Though repetitive

Requires obedience

Purely your motive

Faith, hope, repentance

A quiet change of heart

Each week a clean chance

For joy to restart

[Chorus]

Each week a clean chance

A clean chance for joy

Each week a clean chance

For the Lord to restore

Perfect atonement

Perfect love

Fullness of spirit

From above

[Verse 2]

We come with open hands

And a humbled mind

Hoping mercy meets us

Every single time

Bread and water

Simple and sacred

Teaching us again

How to be made ready

[Pre-Chorus]

To receive this gift

Though repetitive

Requires obedience

Purely your motive

Faith, hope, repentance

A quiet change of heart

Each week a clean chance

For joy to restart

[Chorus]

Each week a clean chance

A clean chance for joy

Each week a clean chance

For the Lord to restore

Perfect atonement

Perfect love

Fullness of spirit

From above

[Bridge]

Not for the perfect

But the willing soul

Not for the finished

But the made-whole

So they kneel we listen

We partake anew

Every week a clean chance

To feel His Spirit new

[Chorus]

Each week a clean chance

A clean chance for joy

Each week a clean chance

For the Lord to restore

Perfect atonement

Perfect love

Fullness of spirit

From above

Your Center

We all sin
And fall short
Still, within
We seek more

Where do you go?
Why do you seek?
How do you know
What you will see?

It's all about proximity
Your gravitational pull
What your thoughts revolve around
When in trouble, who you turn to

Like the sun, our center
Who shows you the way?
And warms you with light?
Who brightens your day?

Jesus is the life
The light and the Way
He is our bread
And water each day

He stands at a door
And waits for our prayers
Our questions and more
He waits and He cares

Let Him be your center
And who you turn to
Your heart, let Him enter
Yes seek Him anew

[Verse 1] We all sin And fall short Still, within We seek more Where do you go? Who do you seek? How do you know What you will see? [Pre-Chorus] It's all about proximity Your gravitational pull What your thoughts revolve around When in trouble, who you turn to [Chorus] Jesus is the life The light and the Way He is our bread And water each day He stands at a door And waits for our prayers Our questions and more He waits and He cares [Verse 2] Like the sun, our center Who shows you the way? And warms you with light? Who brightens your day? Let Him be your center And who you turn to Your heart, let Him enter Yes seek Him anew [Bridge] When the road feels long And your words run dry He is near to you He will hear you cry Turn your heart again Let your searching end Draw me close to You Be my center now [Chorus] Jesus is the life The light and the Way He is our bread And water each day He stands at a door And waits for our prayers Our questions and more He waits and He cares

God uses the symbol of the sun for the celestial kingdom and the star for telestial kingdom.

But the sun and the stars are the same thing—balls of gas.

Two things are different:

1/Proximity

2. Center of our solar system

We all sin. We all fall short.
But where do we turn, or rotate to, when we fall?
What do we gravitate towards?
Who are we closest to in that moment?
.
Repentance is learning, in life's moments, to turn towards Christ.

To feel proximity to the Son.

Matthew 15: 8 Therefore the Lord said: “These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.

    Defending God's Love

    Hate, racism, genocide
    In degrees evil takes ahold
It is for each to decide
To defend Gods love, as one bold

    Love can conquer every hate
    Read His words underscored
The threat of death as one's fate
Just brings us closer to the Lord

"Blessed are the pure in heart"
For they shall see our God
Having done, for Him, their part
    Having given Him their all

[Verse 1] Hate, racism, genocide In degrees evil takes ahold It is for each to decide To defend Gods love, as one bold [Pre-Chorus] Love can conquer every hate Read His words underscored The threat of death as one's fate Just brings us closer to the Lord [Chorus] Love can conquer every hate (Love can conquer every hate) Read His words underscored (Underscored, underscored) Just brings us closer to the Lord Brings us closer to the Lord [Verse 2] Blessed are the pure in heart For they shall see our God Having done, for Him, their part Having given Him their all [Pre-Chorus] Love can conquer every hate Read His words underscored The threat of death as one's fate Just brings us closer to the Lord [Chorus] Love can conquer every hate (Love can conquer every hate) Read His words underscored (Underscored, underscored) Just brings us closer to the Lord Brings us closer to the Lord [Bridge] "Blessed are the pure in heart" We will give Him our all Let the dark be torn apart We will answer when You call [Final Chorus] Love can conquer every hate (Love can conquer every hate) Read His words underscored (Underscored, underscored) Just brings us closer to the Lord Brings us closer to the Lord

I just watched The Pastor, Spy, Assassin Bonhoeffer. He joined a deadly plot to assassinate Hitler and save millions of Jews. I had no idea the degree that Hitler had taken over the Lutheran Church.

His older brother left him his Bible when he was killed. He wrote that he underlined the best parts.

Maybe that is where he got his final words he said with the noose around his neck

"Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy.  Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God."

    More Perfect Union

    The Declaration of Independence

    And the United States Constitution

For two and half centuries have been our guide

As we strive to be a more perfect union

They set our ideals and provide us a game plan

As, too, many sacrifice much to protect them

Working in foreign lands to promote freedom

Believing in the self- evident rights of all men

    The game plan isn't easy

    But together we keep going

    Like the sun setting, rising

We keep working, we keep showing

    Along the upward climb

    Respecting one another

    Pursuing happiness the goal

    Aiming high, supporting each other

Cheering on one who becomes brighter and better

Who builds their faith and home life more than work

And who is well rounded while progressing in their part

Adding to the light we show unto all of the world

[Verse 1] The Declaration of Independence And the United States Constitution For two and half centuries Have been our guide As we strive to be A more perfect union They set our ideals And provide us a game plan [Pre-Chorus] As too many sacrifice much To protect them Working in foreign lands To promote freedom Believing in the self-evident rights Of all men The game plan isn't easy But together we keep going [Chorus] More perfect union We keep going More perfect union We keep showing Respect one another Pursue happiness Aiming high together We lift each other (More perfect union) (More perfect union) [Verse 2] Like the sun setting, rising We keep working We keep showing Along the upward climb Respecting one another Pursuing happiness the goal Supporting each other Cheering on the one who shines Who becomes brighter and better Who builds their faith and home life More than work And who is well rounded [Pre-Chorus] While progressing in their part We don't stand alone Adding to the light we show Unto all of the world A harder road A higher road Still we walk it side by side And we don't let go [Chorus] More perfect union We keep going More perfect union We keep showing Respect one another Pursue happiness Aiming high together We lift each other (More perfect union) (More perfect union) [Bridge] For the promise For the guide For the rights We hold inside For the sacrifice For the climb For the light We leave behind [Final Chorus] More perfect union We keep going More perfect union We keep showing Respect one another Pursue happiness Aiming high together We lift each other More perfect union We keep glowing More perfect union We keep growing Adding to the light We show the world (More perfect union)

Found inspiration from the Oslo Embassy, Rubio invites all countries everywhere to celebrate with us.  ( In our Civil War, there were over 6,000 Americans that fought who had immigrated from this country)

    @SecRubio

Secretary Rubio: “As we commemorate 250 years of independence, I call on our allies and embassies around the world to join us in celebrating the American principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Happy Independence Day, and may God bless the United States of America.”

    From a Broken Vessel to...

Midst life's thorns, thistles, and obnoxious weeds You can become trapped and develop disease Defeated with stress high and energy low The frazzled mind takes a psychic blow

    Like a broken vessel
    You can hold no more
    This is very dreadful
    You have naught to pour
Coping skills shut down, you're in need of rescue As you can't think your way out or know what to do Thoughts are stuck feelings in a circular fashion To break the cycle you must pray with passion

    For a broken vessel
    Must come to itself
    And pray oft with passion
    The Savior will help
A hymn is a prayer and a soothing balm Hum them, sing them and your heart will calm Believe in the atonement and, for you, Christ did pay And then your tears will flow in a different way

    Though a broken vessel
    Think kin Sui Gee
God glues you back with gold
To become a thing of beauty

Then fill your vessel with good things
Life's lessons, your blessings, treasure up
Record your feelings. Let them go
And with the Savior, weekly sup

    As a renewed vessel
You hold the holy spirit within
    Fill it with holy light
Go where the Lord whispers and the veil grows thin
    Be a vessel shining bright

Just pondering this subject from what

    I have experienced...

There's only so long your brain can perform in fight or flight mode and full steam ahead. The frontal lobe of reason and planning will shut down and you'll function at a lower level. You may think you are thinking but you are just feeling thoughts and you are literally in a rut as you do this again and again. You tell the brain this is how you cope. Sleep and food don't help, nor does advice. You need to write all those thought feelings down so the brain doesn't have to remember it all. Then seek the peace that comes with the spirit. Engage in scripture reading and higher reasoning, pray and sing. And give thanks.

I teach and sometimes panic sets in as pressure builds and starts to grip you. There is a schedule to keep and you've expectations of what the kids should know. I have a picture of me in the back of the room and I know I am smiling with love, joy, and the spirit. It warms me and reminds me and sometimes shocks me that I am that person.

    Paper and Pen

    The signs were there

    But the timing off

    A marriage where

    Commitment's the cost

    Late nights at work

    Not wanting food

    Acting bored, tired,

    In a bad mood

    Strange receipts

    Excused away

    Full deceit

    But Sundays- okay

    Has to rush off

    Calls that hang up

    Uncaring, brash,

    Lacking in love

    To become a spy

    Or staying trusting?

    Doubting yourself

    The heartaches!  Crushing!

    A loved one intervenes

    Now the timing's right

    Life's breaking at the seams

    As truth comes to light

    Threats to shut you up

    And to close you off

    But, you say enough

    Sanity's the cost

    With paper and pen

    All the lies go down

    Again and again

    The truth is out now

    Learning to hear

    And trust the voice inside

    Learning to bear,

    To get help and confide

    [Verse 1]

The signs were there But the timing off A marriage where Commitment's the cost Late nights at work Not wanting food Acting bored, tired, In a bad mood Strange receipts Excused away Full deceit But Sundays- okay [Pre-Chorus] Has to rush off Calls that hang up Uncaring, brash, Lacking in love To become a spy Or staying trusting? Doubting yourself The heartaches! Crushing! [Chorus] The signs were there The signs were there I couldn't say it then The truth comes out The truth comes out And cuts right through again Paper and pen Paper and pen All the lies go down [Verse 2] A loved one intervenes Now the timing's right Life's breaking at the seams As truth comes to light Threats to shut you up And to close you off But, you say enough Sanity's the cost With paper and pen All the lies go down Again and again Till they're written down [Pre-Chorus] The hand starts shaking The room goes still You hear your own voice Clear and real Learning to hear And trust the voice inside Learning to bear To get help and confide [Chorus] The signs were there The signs were there I couldn't say it then The truth comes out The truth comes out And cuts right through again Paper and pen Paper and pen All the lies go down [Bridge] Now I know What fear can hide What love can wear When it's all dressed up inside But I broke free From the hush, the shame I found my name I found my name [Final Chorus] The signs were there The signs were there I couldn't say it then The truth comes out The truth comes out And cuts right through again Paper and pen Paper and pen All the lies go down The truth is out now The truth is out now And I can breathe

    How Can We Comprehend

    Never ending blessings

    Have been promised us

    Through His atonement

The most loving gift of all, from Jesus

From time's most sacred moment of all

He freely offers each of us

    Perfect joy and happiness

In the holy presence of God

    In heart and mind

    In body and soul

    He claimed our sins

    And pains- His role

    Perfectly

    What happened in Gethsemane

    How can we comprehend

Or on the cross, at the tomb

    For the destiny of mankind?

Infinite the souls He atoned for

    How can we comprehend

How and what He suffered that His blood did pour

And all He endured to the end

    Everlasting suffering

    And estrangement from God

    He redeemed freely, offering

The ransomed the effects of the Fall

[Verse 1] Never ending blessings Have been promised us Through His atonement The most loving gift of all, from Jesus From time's most sacred moment, for all, He freely offers each of us [Pre-Chorus] Perfect joy and happiness In the holy presence of God In heart and mind In body and soul He claimed our sins And pains- His role Perfectly [Chorus] How can we comprehend What happened in Gethsemane How can we comprehend Or on the cross, at the tomb How can we comprehend For the destiny of mankind? [Verse 2] Infinite the souls He atoned for How can we comprehend What He suffered that His blood did pour How and all He endured to the end Everlasting suffering And estrangement from God He ransomed freely, offering Redemption from the effects of the Fall [Pre-Chorus] Perfect joy and happiness In the holy presence of God In heart and mind In body and soul He claimed our sins And pains- His role Perfectly [Chorus] How can we comprehend What happened in Gethsemane How can we comprehend Or on the cross, at the tomb How can we comprehend For the destiny of mankind?

Conversion- Who We Are Becoming- Christians

    Becoming a Christian today

Is both a choice and a process.

That joyful journey begins with faith,

    Repentance and baptism to progress

The Spirit of the Lord converts us

Into something better than we were before

To become but a new creature, thus

With our hearts changed to do evil no more

    We are transformed through conversion

The Holy Ghost confirms this always

From our old sins we gain a remission

And, through faith, the old things in us pass away

But what of my past?" Some might say

Being filled with a lifetime of regret and remorse

God cares a lot more about who we are

And who we are becoming than about who we once were

    From here our discipleship continues

    Learning and growing in faith

    Repenting daily trying to choose

The path that our Savior has laid

Verse 1] Becoming a Christian today Is both a choice and a process That joyful journey begins with faith Repentance and baptism to progress The Spirit of the Lord converts us Into something better than we were before To become but a new creature, thus With our hearts changed to do evil no more [Chorus] We are transformed As Christians Through conversion The Holy Ghost confirms this always We gain remission The old things pass away [Verse 2] But what of my past? Some might say Being filled with a lifetime of regret and remorse God cares a lot more about who we are And who we are becoming than about who we once were [Chorus] We are transformed As Christians Through conversion The Holy Ghost confirms this always We gain remission The old things pass away [Bridge] From here our discipleship continues Learning and growing in faith Repenting daily trying to choose The path that our Savior has laid [Final Chorus] We are transformed As Christians Through conversion The Holy Ghost confirms this always We gain remission The old things pass away Through Christ's atonement always

Because someone was raised in a Christian home, or it can result from a believer sharing their faith with someone who is unsure about God or Christ. Regardless, each of us will be affected in our faith journey by the beliefs and examples of others. As we seek to become disciples of Jesus Christ, we can feel the Holy Ghost bearing witness to our souls that we are children of a loving Father in Heaven (see Acts 17:28–29) and that Jesus Christ is our Savior who offers us eternal life. And from there, our discipleship continues.

True conversion to Christ always consists of the Spirit of the Lord converting or changing us into something better than we were without Him. As the Apostle Paul explained, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles described the fruit of this ongoing transformation: “Our hearts are changed, and ‘we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually’ [Mosiah 5:2]. … God cares a lot more about who we are and who we are becoming than about who we once were” (“Lifelong Conversion” [Brigham Young University devotional, Sept. 14, 2021], 4, speeches.byu.edu). Ultimately, this divine transformation—rooted in faith in Christ’s divinity and His sacrifice on our behalf—is at the core of what it means to be a Christian.

    He's Been There Before

He's Been There Before by Elder Troy Whittle
The alarm bell rings at 6:30, I stumble to my feet
I grab my companions bedding and pull off his sheets
A groan fills the room, is it already time to arise?
It seems like just a second ago I was able to shut my eyes

The morning activities follow- study, prayer and such
When it's time to leave the apartment, you feel you haven't accomplished much
"We have a super day planned," My comp. says with a grin
I lowly utter a faithless breath, "Yeah, if anyone lets us in."

With the word of God and my faithful Schwinn, we ride off in the street prepared to
Face another day of humidity and heat
It's 9:30 in the evening, the day is almost through
My champion and I are riding home not accomplishing what we thought to do

We ride up to the mailbox, hoping to receive a lot
Only to look inside and hear my echo reverberate "air Box"
We go up to our apartment, the day is now complete
The only thing to show for our work is a case of blistery feet

It's past 10:30 p.m. My companion is fast asleep,
Silence engulfs me all about and I begin to weep
In the midst of sadness, I kneel down to pray
I need to talk to father, but I'm not sure what to say

"Oh, Father" I begin, "What happened to us today?
I thought we'd teach somebody, but everyone was away
    My hands, my aching hands- worn, hurt and beat;
If our area was any smaller, we'd have knocked every street"

"Why on missions are the days so much alike?
The only difference about today was the flat tire on my bike
Will you send some cooler weather? The heat is killing me
I sweat so bad, it gets in my eyes, it's very hard to see"

"Why do I have to wear a helmet, isn't your protection enough?
People always laugh at me, and call me stupid stuff
Please send us investigators so I may give them what they lack
I want to give them Books of Mormon, the weight of them hurts my back"

"And what about my family: They don't have much to say
I'm sick of not hearing from home day after day after day
Oh Father, Why am I here am I just wasting time?
Sometimes I just want to go home, I'm sorry but that's on my mind"

"My companion, Heavenly Father, what are you giving me?
"The way he rides his bicycle, I don't think he can see
Now you have it, I can't go on, I don't know what to do
That, my Father in Heaven, is the prayer I have for you"

My prayer now finished, I stand up, then jump right into bed
I need my rest for tomorrow, we have another long day ahead
Sleep start to overtake me, I seem to drift away
Then it seems a vision takes me to another time in another day

I'm standing alone on the hill. The view is very nice
A man walks to wards me and says, "My name is Jesus Christ"
Tears of joy well up inside, I fall down to His feet
"Arise," He states, "Follow me to the shade. You and I need to speak"

My attention's towards my Savior, total and complete
He says, "Your mission is similar of what happened to me
I understand how you feel, I know what you're going through
In fact, it would be fair to say I've felt the same as you"

"I even know how you felt when no one listened to you
At times I felt not quite sure what else I could do
I know you don't like to ride a bicycle, for you a car would be sweet
Just remember the donkey I rode wasn't equipped with 21 speeds"

"I understand you don't like sweating, in fact it's something you hate
I remember when I sweat blood from ev’ry pore, oh the agony was great!
I see you don't like your companion- you'd rather have someone else-
I once had a companion named Judas who sold my life for wealth"

"It's hard to wear a helmet and have people make fun of you
I remember when they put thorns on my head and called me King of the Jews
So you feel burdened down by the weight of your pack
I recall how heavy the cross was when they slammed it on my back"

"Your hands hurt from tracting and knocking on doors all day
I guess when they pounded nails into mine, I ached in a similar way
It's hard not to hear from home when your family's not there to see
I lost communication on the cross and cried, "Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

"We have a lot in common, but there's a difference between us you see
I endured to the end and finished my mission, so follow and do like me"
He embraced me with His arms and His light filled me with His love
With tears in my eyes I watched as He went back to the Father above

I stood with awe and wonder when a beep rang in my head
I listened and heard the alarm, then realized I was in my bed
My companion let out a groan, "6:30 already, no way!"
I sat up and said, "Come on, I'll even carry your scriptures today!"

No matter what we go through, when we feel we can't take more
Just stop and think about Jesus Christ, He's been there before

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

These poems are my own thoughts and impressions as I study the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints

I encourage you to read from the Book of Mormon and the standard works, and listen to modern day prophets, also, that your mind and heart might be touched.
