Jesus Declares the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares

This parable tells of our Father's plan:
The good seeds are come of the Son of Man
Born of God's kingdom, they are the wheat
Prepared and planted among Satan's seeds
Which are tares, disceptively, so, until the end
When the angel's great harvest will begin
And all those who offend or do iniquity
Will be burned with the tares, all,  for equity
Though there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth
For God, the Son of Man will have saved the good wheat

What Satan Can and Cannot Do

As President Boyd K. Packer taught this morning, Satan cannot directly take a life. That is one of many things he cannot do. But apparently his effort to stop the work will be reasonably well served if he can just bind the tongue of the faithful. Brethren, if that is the case, I am looking tonight for men young and old who care enough about this battle between good and evil to sign on and speak up. We are at war, and for these next few minutes, I want to be a one-man recruiting station.

Do I need to hum a few bars of “We Are All Enlisted”? You know, the line about “We are waiting now for soldiers; who’ll volunteer?” Of course, the great thing about this call to arms is that we ask not for volunteers to fire a rifle or throw a hand grenade. No, we want battalions who will take as their weapons “every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God.” So I am looking tonight for missionaries who will not voluntarily bind their tongues but will, with the Spirit of the Lord and the power of their priesthood, open their mouths and speak miracles. Such speech, the early brethren taught, would be the means by which faith’s “mightiest works have been, and will be, performed.”

Satan cannot take a life
Nor can he stop "the work"
He can lure us away from light
And turn each into a jerk

He can bind up the tongue
That some miracles cease
As there is much to be done
Our efforts must increase

Do Not Go Backward

Do not go backward on the Lord
In this thing you cannot afford
Be assured you will be taken
Snared by Satan fallen, shaken

Isa. 28: 13

• • •
13 But the word of the Lord was
unto them precept upon precept,
precept upon precept; line upon line,
line upon line; here a little,
and there a little; that they might go,
and fall backward, and be broken,
and snared, and taken

Reflecting on the Savior

Reflecting on the Savior
Kindles our fire of faith
It strengthens us to labor
And endure what we must face

Reflecting on the Savior
Kindles a fire of faith
It warms each heart to labor
With His light before one's face

We become most like
Those whom we admire
Living in Christ's light
Truly does inspire

The Pit of Sin

A woman walking about
Fell into a pit so deep
She had no way to get out
And laid down and began to weep

A lone person chanced to walk by
She raised herself up and cried out for help
He saw immediately what to try
And lowered a ladder and went down himself

The Only Begotten provides the means
That we might escape from the pit
When we sin, repentance is what we need
To call upon the Lord and profit

“A [woman] walking along a road fell into a pit so deep [she] could not climb out. No matter what [she] did, [she] could not get out by [herself]. The [woman] called for help and rejoiced when a kind passerby heard [her] and lowered a ladder down into the pit. This allowed [her] to climb out of the pit and regain [her] freedom.
“We are like the [woman] in the pit. Sinning is like falling into the pit, and we can’t get out by ourselves. Just as the kind passerby heard the [woman’s] cry for help, Heavenly Father sent his Only Begotten Son to provide the means of escape. Jesus Christ’s atonement could be compared to lowering a ladder into the pit; it gives us the means to climb out.”10 But the Savior does more than lower the ladder, He “comes down into the pit and makes it possible for us to use the ladder to escape.”11 “Just as the [woman] in the pit had to climb up the ladder, we must repent of our sins and obey the gospel principles and ordinances to climb out of our pit and make the Atonement work in our lives. Thus, after all we can do, the Atonement makes it possible for us to become worthy to return to Heavenly Father’s presence.”12
Is Faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ Written in Our Hearts?

If you click on the label the pit of sin I also have a man who falls into a pit. Both are based on the Primary lesson...

Thou Knows!

May Thy laws and truths be written
Deep within my heart,
And may I, through Thee, be forgiven
As I do my part

Let faith be rooted deep within my soul
As added marrow to my bones
May the atonement cleanse me whole
As all my troubles, Thou, Lord knows!

Making, keeping, and rejoicing in our covenants will be the evidence that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is truly written in our hearts.

Always Words to Live By

Always, keep a prayer in your heart
Look for the blessings that impart
Always, ponder upon the truth
Be a living example, as proof

Always, remember who you are
With God you've promise to go far
When there is a glitch, do your best
And believe it will pass. It is a test...and try to get some rest.

Ephraim's Rescue - Official Trailer 2 (2013) - From the Makers of 17 Mir...

Both the old and the young
Had to endure and overcome
Starvation and chill
Faith kept them going, still...

With that being said
Who would do it again?
Imagine the dread
Winter was not a friend

A simple man answered the call
He had met many crossroads
He was prepared to give his all
He took meat and oil on his load

He administered like an angel
And saved many from near death
Frozen, their lives seemed to dangle
In need of hope to warm their breath

It was a perfect reminder of the faith of our pioneers!  Awesome movie!

A trainer of wolves fixed
And kept them locked in a pen
A deer stood outside transfixed
Though they were not in the open

It stood mesmerized
He shooed it away
Then, he could not believe his eyes
More came the next day

They encircled the pen
Staring, silently entranced
I learned something, then
Upon some things you must not glance

You must suppose
They will tempt you awry

The History of Memorial Day: by Studies Weekly

Before your summer begins
And you fire up the grill
Remember our fallen men
The unknown and missing still

Place a flower, wave a flag
Visit a resting place
Give thanks for all you have
We've freedom to embrace!

E Pluribus Unum

E pluribus unim
Out of many, one, thus
Hearts sing out in union
And proclaim, "In God we trust!"

Grace

God's grace is an enabling power,
A strength, a gift to unwrap
That teaches us in faith's hour
We feel God near, as we ask

By His grace we are saved
After all we can do
Through prayer the way is paved
And we are blessed anew

The sorrow of the penitent
Finds a place where he might lay
All his sins to be repentant
And the Lord shows him the way

Through the merits of Christ, alone
We are changed from a state of sin
He has the power to atone
We can feel His spirit within

Taps history told by John Wayne

It was a sweltering day
Every scent and stench hung, heavy
Here seven thousand soldiers lay
All of them, fallen men, too many

The roar of the cannons had ceased
The hills were covered in blood
As darkness enclosed from the east
A colonel arose from above

His bugle was slowly, gently raised
He played what he had just composed
And expressed the feelings on this day
The cry of the lone heart exposed

In God We Trust

At any stage
The rains can flood
And storms can rage
On crops we love

Reminding us

And care in God

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf said that he remembers President Monson saying, “I could not have asked for a more loyal, loving and understanding companion.” He said that whenever he spoke of the mighty power of wives and mothers, “I knew he was thinking of his companion, Frances.”
He remembered visiting the grave of a missionary in Germany with the Monsons on a day of truly terrible weather. “We could not have picked a worst day,” he said. “Sister Monson was standing next to her husband in the pouring rain, barely protected by an overwhelmed umbrella, but there she was with a calm, smile brightening up the day with kindness…in a way that cannot be expressed.”

While it is a time of sorrow

President Henry B. Eyring said that, “While this is a time of sorrow, it is also a time gladness for Sister Monson had a rich and rewarding life. The highest tribute to those who have passed through the veil is not grief, but gratitude.”

"He leaves behind a nation he restored and a world he helped save. During the years of President Reagan, America laid to rest an era of division and self-doubt, and, because of his leadership, the world laid to rest an era of fear and tyranny," Bush said. (Bush statement)
Bush's father, former President George H.W. Bush, said "history will give Reagan great credit for standing for principles."
"It was wonderful the way that he could take a stand, and do it without bitterness or without creating enmity with other people," said the elder Bush, who was Reagan's vice president.

Mercy Cannot Rob Justice

Mercy cannot be made
To rob justice
Repentance must be paid

Chapter 42

Mortality is a probationary time to enable man to repent and serve God—The Fall brought temporal and spiritual death upon all mankind—Redemption comes through repentance—God Himself atones for the sins of the world—Mercy is for those who repent—All others are subject to God’s justice—Mercy comes because of the Atonement—Only the truly penitent are saved. Cedar Rapids, Iowa 10-Year-Old Hero Shot Protecting Mom From Gunmen “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13 Masked gunmen broke into 10-year-old Cameron’s house and proceeded to point a gun directly in his mother’s face. Cameron, without hesitation, tackled one of the men, at which point the gun was fired, ripping through the 10-year-old’s forearm. Leaving him and his mother, the gunmen fled the scene, seemingly aware of the reality of what they had just done. Fortunately Cameron will be fine, his wound was fairly minor and he doesn’t regret a moment of his bravery. He says he knows that God was protecting him and his mother that day, and it certainly would seem that way. Armor-Clad Mayor Asks City: ‘Who’s Willing To Fight For Stockton?’ « CBS Sacramento

With a mace raised way up high,
He asked, "Who's willing to fight?
For this city, to try
To restore it from crime!"

Then he looked all around
And asked, "Who's left their ego?
Volunteers must be found...
And, (oops...) all your guns must go!"  (Uh, No!)

Oh, and please be notified
That taxes must increase
Filling courts with more tried
Which the jails will release....

Let us pray for the home
The backbone of each town
Make each neighbor known
That civilization be found

What happened to the good ol' days
When you could protect yourself?
Where respect and honor pays
And a show of guns would help?

This article grabbed my attention.  I thought about Captain Moroni, of course!

It is Fitting

It is fitting that we celebrate
Our mothers on the Sabbath day
And express how we appreciate
All the sacrifices she has made

For without her where would we be?
And without Christ where would we go?
Our ties go on for eternity
Because of our Savior, I know!

All I am

All I am I owe to Eve
The mother of all living
For us, she fell, I believe
Selflessly, she was giving

All I am I owe also
To my mother who gave me birth
Who taught me all I know
About honesty and self worth

All I am I owe to Christ
Who one day will call me home
To live eternal life
With all the mothers known

The Giving of Flesh and Blood

The offering of flesh
And life giving blood
Sent selflessly to bless
What lies as a bud

Spirit then to come
And enter therein
A child to become
Soon independent

Motherhood is formed
Midst the dividing of cells
Through love it is flamed
Life warmly within swells

Life, safely preserved
In a protective womb
With water reserved
For the babe to bloom

Naught else can compare
To the love of our Savior
Laboring to bare
That all our sins be paid for

The load became so heavy
He sweat great drops of blood
Then, He gave up His body
That rebirth burst, a flood

Of flesh and blood, in Him
We now can be reborn
To feel His love within
I've thanks for all He bore

Having Children in Faith

Parents abound much in faith
To prepare themselves within
For Heaven's own to embrace
Home, and the love there given

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

The Soul's Captain [The Answer]
by Elder Orson F. Whitney
of the Quorum of the Twelve
Art thou in truth? Then what of him
Who bought thee with his blood?
Who plunged into devouring seas
And snatched thee from the flood?
Who bore for all our fallen race
What none but him could bear.
The God who died that man might live,
And endless glory share?
Of what avail thy vaunted strength,
Apart from his vast might?
Pray that his Light may pierce the gloom,
That thou mayest see aright.
Men are as bubbles on the wave,
As leaves upon the tree.
Thou, captain of thy soul, forsooth
Who gave that place to thee?
Free will is thine — free agency
To wield for right or wrong;
But thou must answer unto him
To whom all souls belong.
Bend to the dust that head "unbowed,"
Small part of Life's great whole!
And see in him, and him alone,
The Captain of thy soul

He's Been There Before

He's Been There Before by Elder Troy Whittle
The alarm bell rings at 6:30, I stumble to my feet
I grab my companions bedding and pull off his sheets
A groan fills the room, is it already time to arise?
It seems like just a second ago I was able to shut my eyes

The morning activities follow- study, prayer and such
When it's time to leave the apartment, you feel you haven't accomplished much
"We have a super day planned," My comp. says with a grin
I lowly utter a faithless breath, "Yeah, if anyone lets us in."

With the word of God and my faithful Schwinn, we ride off in the street prepared to
Face another day of humidity and heat
It's 9:30 in the evening, the day is almost through
My champion and I are riding home not accomplishing what we thought to do

We ride up to the mailbox, hoping to receive a lot
Only to look inside and hear my echo reverberate "air Box"
We go up to our apartment, the day is now complete
The only thing to show for our work is a case of blistery feet

It's past 10:30 p.m. My companion is fast asleep,
Silence engulfs me all about and I begin to weep
In the midst of sadness, I kneel down to pray
I need to talk to father, but I'm not sure what to say

"Oh, Father" I begin, "What happened to us today?
I thought we'd teach somebody, but everyone was away
My hands, my aching hands- worn, hurt and beat;
If our area was any smaller, we'd have knocked every street"

"Why on missions are the days so much alike?
The only difference about today was the flat tire on my bike
Will you send some cooler weather? The heat is killing me
I sweat so bad, it gets in my eyes, it's very hard to see"

"Why do I have to wear a helmet, isn't your protection enough?
People always laugh at me, and call me stupid stuff
Please send us investigators so I may give them what they lack
I want to give them Books of Mormon, the weight of them hurts my back"

"And what about my family: They don't have much to say
I'm sick of not hearing from home day after day after day
Oh Father, Why am I here am I just wasting time?
Sometimes I just want to go home, I'm sorry but that's on my mind"

"My companion, Heavenly Father, what are you giving me?
"The way he rides his bicycle, I don't think he can see
Now you have it, I can't go on, I don't know what to do
That, my Father in Heaven, is the prayer I have for you"

My prayer now finished, I stand up, then jump right into bed
I need my rest for tomorrow, we have another long day ahead
Sleep start to overtake me, I seem to drift away
Then it seems a vision takes me to another time in another day

I'm standing alone on the hill. The view is very nice
A man walks to wards me and says, "My name is Jesus Christ"
Tears of joy well up inside, I fall down to His feet
"Arise," He states, "Follow me to the shade. You and I need to speak"

My attention's towards my Savior, total and complete
He says, "Your mission is similar of what happened to me
I understand how you feel, I know what you're going through
In fact, it would be fair to say I've felt the same as you"

"I even know how you felt when no one listened to you
At times I felt not quite sure what else I could do
I know you don't like to ride a bicycle, for you a car would be sweet
Just remember the donkey I rode wasn't equipped with 21 speeds"

"I understand you don't like sweating, in fact it's something you hate
I remember when I sweat blood from ev’ry pore, oh the agony was great!
I see you don't like your companion- you'd rather have someone else-
I once had a companion named Judas who sold my life for wealth"

"It's hard to wear a helmet and have people make fun of you
I remember when they put thorns on my head and called me King of the Jews
So you feel burdened down by the weight of your pack
I recall how heavy the cross was when they slammed it on my back"

"Your hands hurt from tracting and knocking on doors all day
I guess when they pounded nails into mine, I ached in a similar way
It's hard not to hear from home when your family's not there to see
I lost communication on the cross and cried, "Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

"We have a lot in common, but there's a difference between us you see
I endured to the end and finished my mission, so follow and do like me"
He embraced me with His arms and His light filled me with His love
With tears in my eyes I watched as He went back to the Father above

I stood with awe and wonder when a beep rang in my head
I listened and heard the alarm, then realized I was in my bed
My companion let out a groan, "6:30 already, no way!"
I sat up and said, "Come on, I'll even carry your scriptures today!"

No matter what we go through, when we feel we can't take more
Just stop and think about Jesus Christ, He's been there before

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

These poems are my own thoughts and impressions as I study the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints

I encourage you to read from the Book of Mormon and the standard works, and listen to modern day prophets, also, that your mind and heart might be touched.
