Jesus Christ Son of Man a Jew
Smashwords

I went on an ancient journey
And discovered the Lord anew
Come see how He lived and loved
While honoring the life of a Jew
A book of poetry

This book is dedicated
To Jesus... who walked the earth
He whom God designated
Came to affirm mankind's worth
I picture Him, the Son of God
Very much a part of the community
Reading the Torah in the synagogue
While being under much scrutiny
Wearing the cloth of the day so common
With the corners fringed in blue
Giving to us God's sermon
While living the life of a Jew...

This book was inspired by:
"Jesus Christ
Son Of Man"
series I,II,III

by Susan Easton Black
"Scriptural, Historical, and Legal
Evidence of the Events Surrounding
The Crucifixion of Christ"
Andrew C. Skinner
Much thanks to my step daughter, Demara for encouraging me to have a “bucket list”; to my husband, Rick for his patience in editing; and to Steven Spindel for proofing the historical content. Also included in this book are Old Testament references found in the King James Bible…Pondering the Savior’s coming,
Unto Jerusalem-
Desiring with my whole being
To find much more of Him…

Let Us Dare to Imagine the Savior on Earth
Isaiah 53: 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.
Let us dare to imagine
The Savior here on Earth
The times that He lived in
And His long awaited birth
Watch Him step into His role
To become our Redeemer
Watch Him tend to His fold
Come, too, and be a dreamer

Ancient Prophecy Was Made
Isaiah 7:14Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Ancient prophecy was made
Then generations passed
To faithful hearts a promise lay
With signs for eyes to cast
A virgin birth
For one named Mary
She come to earth
God's son... to carry
Meanwhile... atrocities and war
Bondage.... Babylon, Egypt, Greece, then Rome
Conquered again and again...who was favored?
Then...He came... obscure, and unknown
With His life
Came rebirth
Jesus Christ
Brought us new worth
Perfectly He led
Healed and discoursed
Spiritually He fed
As His life ran its course

In an Espousal Ceremony
Isaiah 9:1For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder
In an espousal ceremony
The solemn witnesses joined
For the words of betrothing
And the passing of a lone coin
The young maiden now was promised
The village rejoiced with her
But in time the groom noticed
His bride was to be a mother...
Joseph- a man with a kind heart
Wanted to act with chivalry
A public trial- he'd not start
But would put her away privily
Then... in a dream an angel bid him
And he took his betrothed unto him as wife
She bearing the son of God within
Needed him as the man in her life
His it would be to provide
And help rear the promised son
He of the lineage of David
Was to bring up the Royal One
Let the world now take notice
That Jesus did grow in stature
He being born of promise
Grew to His perfected nature
And of His earthly father
Let us too be assured
That with angels he oft dreamed
And his sacred role was treasured
Now this truly has more meaning
As one knows the customs of the Jewish bound
For the groom ends his search saying
"Come, see... the treasure that I have found"
Then lifting the veil of his bride's cover
As the villagers gather and exclaim:
"The government be upon his shoulder"
Giving him the rights for parentage to claim
He then escorts his new virgin bride
Unto a home of their own
With a festive procession to guide
The greatest family ever known
Some friends played music, others danced
The kindred waved myrtle- the symbol of love
"Take her according to law" were the chants
While encircled with a canopy above
The festive couple were then crowned with garland
And called respectively "king" and "queen"
This truly took on new significance
They unknowingly honored the greatest Being!
The Ever-Present Power of Rome
Jeremiah 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
The ever-present power of Rome
Was an empire none could ignore
From Africa to England and around the Mediterranean coast
It was to be obeyed, though repugnant and abhorred
The taxation decree was a demand
Which read that families must register
Each in their ancient, original land
Thus, it became Joseph and Mary's turn
But, by this time the first born was nearly due
And it was a ninety mile journey to Bethlehem
Upon reaching the hills that King David once knew
They discovered there was no room for them at the Inn
Could it simply be for safety that as the darkness falls
The caravansaries close their doors for the night
Now, their only choice were the livestock's stalls
As it became apparent the babe would soon arrive
Then, like generations of Jewish mothers before her
Mary wrapped the newborn in swaddling clothes
And, improvising, she laid him in a manger
Now, this would be a frightful night one would suppose...
But, very nearby was the Migdal Eder tower
Where shepherds guarded the sheep temple bound
Here angels came, to announce the birth, with power
As the glory of the Lord shone all around
The angelic declaration resonated
With the customs of the ancient Bedouin:
"We bring good news of great joy, for to you is born this day-"
There to proclaim more, with praise: "and on earth peace, good will toward men"

How many stalls they searched we know not
Till they found the babe lying in a manger
But it was a moment not a one forgot
For they now knew the saving Messianic answer
Yet, the story simply cannot end here
For what of the Romans who nearly ruled the land?
Things became complicated as wise men appeared
For King Herod could see royal gifts at hand
Their visit was not for him but a babe he'd not heard of
A "rightful successor" to the throne, in fact
The king gathered all his chief priests and scribes thereof
Then told the wise men of Bethlehem to return on their way back
He, full of deceit, said he too would worship the king of us all
With kind words, the wise men left... their search was not hard
As they'd only to wait for the evening to fall
Having just come from the east following... a star
There, in a humble abode they found
The prophesied wondrous king
There, they offered their gifts to surround
That were not of a typical thing
For symbols of His royal destiny
The wise men brought gold to show His worth
Then temple incense for His role yet to be
And, last... the embalming myrrh for His eve of rebirth

We know not much of these special wise men
But, we do know they were truly inspired
For they were warned in a dream as they left Bethlehem
To do not as the Roman king had desired
But, sadly, when they failed to return
And in fact bypassed Jerusalem
A fearsome revenge soon started to burn
For truly King Herod now felt threatened
Gathering his soldiers about him
He ordered the slaying of children
All two and younger around Bethlehem
A hellish edict too painful to imagine
Of... mothers pleading for their innocents
Those who could barely walk or question why
How many we know not were disobedient
Like Zacharias who hid where his baby lie
How many heroes and heroines... we do not know
But we do know the Promised Babe had left
For Joseph and his family escaped in the night
He being warned by an angel, as he slept
The holy family crossed the wastelands of the Negev
And passed the Sinai deserts seeking respite
Unto safety in the land of pyramids to live
And blend in with other Jews along the Nile
Soon...King Herod's health waned and death stalked this despot
And he not wishing others to surpass his greatness
Divided his kingdom between three of the sons he'd begot
There to end his reign with a funeral procession... by far the greatest

But... still Jesus was kept afar in Egypt
As the family awaited news from God
Once again word came to Joseph as he slept
And they journeyed home to dwell on holy sod
Joseph sought a land ruled by the least of the kings
And turned aside into the parts of Galilee
Back to his place of birth and workings
Imagine, in Nazareth, the reunion of family!
And it was here Christ grew up as a tender plant
As a root sprung out of dry ground
Nurtured by extended generations at hand
Here, His increase of wisdom and stature was found

Each year the Feast of the Passover was held
Where was commemorated Israel's deliverance
Here, Jesus sat with the learned as the Temple Mount filled
And of Him, they were quite astonished at the experience
Young Jesus, at twelve, was declared a Son of the Law
And, as per custom of the Passover, was now granted
To sit and learn among His elders in the synagogue
But, instead, for days questions to Him were handed
Here, as men compared their bondage to Egypt
Did they realize who they had before them?
Or was this knowledge secretly kept?
Being Jesus' first pilgrimage to Jerusalem
And... this was when Joseph and Mary were reminded
As they lost sight of their son on the way back
That Jesus was to be ever spiritually minded
As traits of His Father became evident in fact
So... after a celebration of sacrificial lambs
Here, before all, He was being prepared for the world
Here was the beginning of His many life exams
And... here, His purpose was beginning to be unfurled...

Far From the Scenes- John the Baptist
Isaiah 40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Far from the scene of soft flowing linens
And self-serving embracers of religion
A lone voice from the wilderness was heard
"Repent and be baptized, prepare for the Word"
Many paid heed and cast off evil ways
With hope in their hearts they measured the days
Then, John the Baptist, while standing at the river
Spied a man, whom many thought a commoner
He was the Son of God, the very one of whom he'd taught!
"I have need to be baptized of Thee," he said distraught
But, Jesus descended, ever beneath all things
For the fulfillment of righteousness eternally it brings
Then straight away as John pulled him out of the water
The heavens were opened, lo a dove, and the voice of the Father:
"This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased," He said
And Jesus entered the wilderness to be spiritually fed
Jesus Worshipped God in the Desert Terrain
Deuteronomy 8:3 And He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
Jesus worshipped God in the desert terrain
As He fasted and communed for 40 days and nights
Satan came to entice Him. But... He refrained
Ever His mission was fresh within His sights
To use His powers for carnal appetite...held no appeal
Though He could have changed stone to bread
This lacked luster compared to His fast so surreal
For His mouth should be holy as on the Word, He fed
Then Satan promised Him glory and power
Challenging Him to show what He was made of
But Jesus knew to not succumb in this hour
For should He prematurely expect angels to bear Him up?

His path was straight, His course was sure
Satan tried to lure Him with treasures and gold
But, what did He have need of, being refined and pure
Fathered and prepared by God- the truth be told...
Leaving the Lone Wilderness of Judea
Matthew 4:17-20 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him.
Leaving the lone wilderness of Judea
His ministry began at the appointed hour
Along the harp-like shore of Galilee
"The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand," He announced with power
The promised Messiah now walked among men
And called, "Come follow Me," for all the invite
Andrew and Simon left their nets and followed Him
They the first of many to walk in His Light
The first journey was to the city of Cana
Arriving in the midst of a wedding feast
Here He produced fruit of the vine...like Manna
The first of His many miracles... but not the least
For here was a foreshadowing of His blood
That soon would be pressed to atone
In agony... His outpouring love would flood
The greatest miracle to be shown
May we, too, be parched to thirst
That..like the ceremonial pots He filled
We may find Living Water never to burst
At His good news which cannot be stilled
Venturing Forth
Matthew 4:23-24 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And His fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto Him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and He healed them.
Venturing forth upon the byways
And the villages surrounding Galilee
Jesus was sought with wonder and praise
For He'd cured afflictions and maladies
Gone as well was the stigma of sin
Associated with each varied disease
Thinking Him but a worker of miracles, often
They still sought a Messiah, who was to bring peace
One time...a certain nobleman
Besought Jesus...that He would come/
And, quickly heal His ailing son
Which Jesus did apart from Capernaum
To each who asked...He made them whole
Oft saying to go and sin no more
Ever He cleansed both body and soul
Even causing lepers no longer to mourn

And watching...judging...were the Sadducees
As they, too, saw Him heal on the Sabbath day
He was charged for working...a blasphemy
Thickening their plot, this young upstart to slay
Jesus, challenging their restrictions
Stated this holy day was for man
To become cleansed of their afflictions
Thus He healed by their faith and through command
But...they continued to not understand
Ever Jesus Felt the Need to Pray
Matthew 14:23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, He was there alone.
Ever felt Jesus the need to pray
As He walked the earth among man
This, I pondered as in His name I prayed
Giving humble thanks that I can
May desire in me be more ignited
To be filled with Spirit and light
That from my past, I can be righted,
Turned toward God's will, and choose the right
Bed of Afflictions
Psalm 22: 24 For He hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath He hid His face from him; but when he cried unto him, He heard.
Who does not have a bed of afflictions?
Or vexing demons to be cast out
Thus to be made whole with new convictions
Desiring for goodness to be about
Let us, too, rise from our beds, praising
And desiring to sin never more
That, one day, on the Son of Man we'll be gazing
Giving thanks that our sins were paid for
While Setting Sail
Mark 4:39 And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
While setting sail for distant shores
T'wards the Gaderene countryside
The winds grew turbulent amidst a downpour
Frightening fishermen and disciples alike
The Savior's slumber was undisturbed
Despite the pitching of the sea
He slept peacefully and unperturbed,
Though all feared the craft was in jeopardy
Shouts were made to waken Jesus
"Master, Master! We're going to perish!"
He rose and calmed the mighty storm, thus
And caused them to marvel and cherish
Then, seeing the eastern shoreline
They ended their voyage in bliss
What miracle would Jesus do this time?
Truly, not a one wanted to miss!
It was not long before the answer appeared
As from the tombs a naked man came
And fell down before as slowly they neared
Saying, "Torment me not!" Calling Jesus by name
"What is thy name?" The Lord asked the crazed man
"My name is Legion, meaning many," he replied
"Please," they implored. "Send us into the swine...rather than
Turn us out to the lone countryside"
But, these creatures, once possessed violently ran
Off of a cliff, to a lake and were choked by the sea
While the lunatic went to Decapolis, a cured man
Such that, scared, some begged off the Lord... and they did leave
And so the rest crossed the watery deep
Without storm or noted incident
Each pondering how the Lord had tended His sheep
While, as a man of miracles, He became more evident
Upon Leaving the Placid Sea
Matthew 9:22 But Jesus turned Him about, and when He saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
Upon leaving the placid sea
Unto Jesus many gathered for relief
And, He, without reservation to any
Gave His healing touch which was gladly received
Among the throng was one...Jarius
A synagogue ruler deep in need
For His daughter's health was precarious
And to go visit her...Jesus agreed
As they walked the distance
Many who suffered pressed against Jesus
And...He knew in an instant
When virtue had gone from Him, thus
"Who touched my garment?" He asked of all
Knowing that one of them had been healed
A woman came to Him and made herself small
Confessing and trembling as tears spilled
"Daughter, be of good comfort!" He said
Teaching that faith had made her whole
And He made way to Jarius' bed
Finding her dead, still he recalled her soul
What possible manner of man is this?
That not only the elements respond
But, the devils and dead take notice
Surely, one mightier could not be found
From the Well-Trodden Paths of Galilee
Luke 9:20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
From the well-trodden paths of Galilee
Jesus and His disciples went to a desert place apart
But peace from the petitioners was not to be
For He had brought such hope to their hearts
Jesus healed more...as the day wore on
And evening shadows came across the plains
For each journeying home the road was dark and long
Two fishes and five loaves were gathered and He prayed
The assembled He caused to sit in ranks
In groups of fifty and even a hundred
Reminiscent of Israel and Moses long ago
The multitude of Bethsada He miraculously fed
After all were satisfied from the peasant meal
The leftovers were collected in baskets
Is it a coincidence that twelve were filled?
Symbolic of the work, yea, of the Apostles
This day, prophecy was in fulfillment
For, in the Lord's day, a meal, as Manna, was shown
Such that... when Jesus said, "Whom say the people I am?"...He meant-
Did they know their promised Messiah was now to be known?
Regardless, they desired that He
Were wont to be crowned as their king
Hoping, that from oppression, He'd save them
Not understanding the ransom He'd bring
"Whom say ye that I am?" Of the disciples, He asked
And it was Peter who answered, "The Christ of God"
Straightway... He sent the disciples unto a task
And the people homeward... that He might pray, alone, from all
Again the Master Entered
Psalm 109:25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon Me they shaked their heads.
Again the Master entered
Villages dotting Galilee
And to Him people ventured
As He healed all manner of disease
Pronouncing Himself come of heaven-
The Bread of Life that no man hunger
They refused His invitation given
Knowing His parents, He had lived under
The very people He'd fed on the plains
Of the city known for grinding mills
Shunned the words which Jesus proclaimed
As to the man of Living Bread... they turned their heels
After healing as many who reached Him
With each becoming whole... healing them all
They dealt Him only antagonism
He the son of Joseph... ever small
Gone was the awe of the throng
His popularity now had waned
In, this, the city of Capernaum
They'd not faith He was whom He claimed
Will Ye Also Go Away?
John 6: 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
"Will ye also go away?"
Jesus asked of His twelve
"Where would we go?" He heard Peter say
He, being their living well
From that time forth Jesus spoke
Of His ensuing death
Hanging over all like a heavy cloak
He was to become their Living Breath
As His ministry drew to a close
They saw of the Lord, added dimension
How oft shall we forgive- Peter proposed
Seventy times seven...He said...thus too many to mention
His words unleashed new blessings
There was promise for the vilest sinners
As only through forgiveness of transgressors
Will we come across in heaven as winners
This miraculous sermon on forgiveness
Was to be tested in the holy city
When a woman in adultery was witnessed
The Scribes and Pharisees saw their opportunity
By command, her fate was known
They challenged Jesus... wanting His judgment on this matter
"He that is without sin, let him cast the first stone,"
He answered...and they departed- their hopes shattered
They had thought the trap was set
For Roman law forbid casting
And Mosaic law did contradict
In the end, their own guilt...was proved lasting
The words of Jesus regarding the woman
Broke down the Pharisaic wall
Just as the shouts of Joshua and His men
Caused the walls of Jericho to fall
Who would not now come unto Him
For He truly invited rest and peace
Those who would believe and repent often
Could know the meaning of being truly blessed
Mary and Martha from Bethany
John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, He said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
Mary and Martha from Bethany
Sent word of Lazarus
Jesus was needed urgently
As their brother was dying, thus
"This sickness is not unto death," He exclaimed
"But for the glory of God and the Son"
As, too, "Lazarus is dead," He proclaimed
Still...their four day journey had just begun
Upon arriving, noisy lamentations pierced the air
As chairs and couches were placed upside down
Evidencing all was not right in the dwellings there
Lazarus had been dead for four days, now
"Where have ye laid him?" Jesus asked
They went to a cave and rolled a stone away
And upon a living Lazarus their eyes cast
Many no longer doubted Christ after that day
The Scribes and the Pharisees
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
The Scribes and the Pharisees counseled anew
Not with God...but with each other
If they let this Jesus continue
They'd lose their place to another
The men developed a plot of malice
Reasoning it would save their whole nation/
This their best attempt to trip and surpass
They waited with ears, eyes, and lips in station
Jesus left...for His 'time' was not yet at hand
Journeying to Ephraim and the coastlines further away
Then... for the Passover, He went back to the holy land
Unto His sheep that had all gone astray
Traveling among the pilgrims in white
He saw curtains at hospitable doorways
As even strangers had a place for the night
And a Pascal lamb to eat that last day...
Passover Week
Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
Passover week was a joyous reunion always
Of all the others, for Jesus, this one was different
The scribes and the chief priests had plotted for days
And, He knowing, spoke that His death was now imminent
Yet, none could foresee this by the greeting
That He received while entering the city
A path of palms, the cloths, and hosannas so fleeting
For, lambs were nearby, as on the donkey He was sitting
One last Pascal dinner for Him remained
John prepared a large secluded chamber
Commemorating Israel's deliverance so famed

They had unleavened cakes and herbs... bitter
The lamb was roasted on a pomegranate spit
Peter and John with the owner prepared everything
The room was made festive, the lamps were all lit
And...Jesus sat with the twelve and spoke of suffering

The meal was the Savior's to offer
He washed the feet of His disciples in the upper room
And said..."I have desired to sup with you before I suffer"
Judas Iscariot left and the meal resumed

He took the round unleavened bread
And blessed...and broke it, and He said:
"Take, eat- this is my body
This do in remembrance of me"
He then took the cup and gave thanks
Passing it around till each man drank
"This is my blood that will be shed"
Thus, teaching through every word He said
The miracle of His atoning sacrifice
In which He would bleed from each pore
Teaching that redemption came with a high price,
What it was in remembrance of and who it was paid for
He commanded: "Love one another as I have loved you"
As, He covenanted this comforting promise
"Peace I leave with you...my peace I give unto you"
There to not feel troubled if in their part they were honest
All His words had farewell undertones
And Peter asked-"Lord, whither goest Thou?"
"The hour cometh for my works alone,"
He responded. "Whither I goest, thou cannot follow me now"
After the Tender Sacrament was Made
Matthew 26:39 And He went a little further, and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt.
After the tender sacrament was made
Jesus raised His eyes Heavenward and prayed
"Father the hour is come
to glorify Thy Son
that, also, I might glorify Thee
I pray for them which Thou hast given me"
Then with the faithful apostles by His side
They crossed the Kidron Valley's divide
Climbed up the slope of Mt. Olivet
Onto Gethsemane (meaning olive press)
Here, gnarled trees to this day survive
As even in drought they give fruit and thrive
Providing much needed oil there to sooth
Unto this garden... the group did move
Jesus said, "All ye shall be offended because of me this night"
"For it is written...I the shepherd will smite"
Soon the sheep of the flock would be scattered abroad
They being the sheep... and He the Shepherd of God
Peter attempted to assure the Lord of his faithful devotion
His willingness to stand by the Master, he promised with emotion
Jesus said, "Before the cock crows...ye shall deny me three times"
With these heavy words... He then took Peter, James, and John into the night
Jesus became sorrowful and heavily weighed down
He asked "tarry ye here and watch with me," ...they sat upon the ground
For this was the night he would prove unfailing love for all of man
Eternally healing, like unto olives pressed... His blood ran
And this was the hour He was born and lived for
To feel the pains of every kind, age of time, and more
He left the three...perhaps there to witness what He'd say?
He, but a stones cast of a hundred feet away
"Oh, Father if it be possible let this cup pass," he prayed
Fallen upon His face as pain was increasingly laid
"Nevertheless, not as I will...
But as Thou wilt"
"My soul troubled and what shall I say Father?"
At this point...did the apostles shake hearing what He spoke, yonder?
..."Save me from this hour, but for this cause came I unto this hour"
Was this when an angel was sent with comforting strength to empower?
Finite minds cannot comprehend... how He withstood such misery
With naught to compare...His ransom is a mystery
The atoning Savior went to the three and found them sleeping
Too weak for but one night's watch...theirs for keeping
"Simon, sleepest thou? Could thou not watch one hour"
"Watch ye and pray lest ye enter into temptation," He said with power
A second time He distanced himself and prayed
"Father if this cup may not pass away..."
Then... accepted the bitter cup...
That the atonement might be made
Glory be to God that Jesus submitted that lone night
That we, weak in body, might be restored unto Light
Soon came His betrayal. A dawn of test awaited
Would He remain pure and forgiving though mocked, flogged, and hated?
Though a wooden cross and death were looming
His love for us and the Father was all consuming
As then would come the beautiful morning of the Lord's resurrection
When, for all, peace that surpasses understanding came through perfection
The Night of the Oil Press
Psalm 22:6-18  All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the Lord that He would deliver Him: let Him deliver Him, seeing He delighted in Him. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.  For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.  I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
The night of the oil press
Men came with one Judas
With swords and with meanness
To arrest our Lord Jesus
He having just won
The sins of all man
Warned His task was not done
For evil was at hand
Judas stepped forward
With a kiss as the sign
The collusion untoward
Was conspired by design
The wounds of a friend
At the height of deceit
Did the crime more lend
And demise more greet
The temple police force
Soon fell back to the sod
When Jesus discoursed
"I Am", for He was God
Then Jesus was bound
With a rope round his neck
The scapegoat was found
As He was without speck
The hour of darkness
Was filled with hypocrisy
And now this harshness
Culminated the conspiracy
He’d caused an upheaval
To the Sanhedrin prestige
And warned them of evil
As in the night was this siege
In the House of Prayer
Jesus had taught daily
But, they'd not arrest Him there
For the renting and wailing
All that Jesus had spoken
Within the temple and without
Had been out in the open
And left little doubt
With Roman concern
And want for money tables
Sanhedrin's plots soon burned
For witnesses with fables
As their craft deepened
His sedition was called
And, as they darkened
A fair trial was forestalled
While in judicial court
They ignored Mosaic law
In the name of retort
They smote Jesus’ jaw
He opened not His mouth
In defense or hatred
Nor in anger did He shout
Though slaps turned His skin red
From Pilate to Herod
Then to Pilate again
Jesus was queried
But, naught was against
He was found without fault
Yet, Pilate washed his hands
And replaced Him with the false
At the crowd's loud demands
His stripes of the scourge
Dried in the purple cloak
And they crowned Him with thorns
As they spit and they spoke
Then bearing His cross to be
To the place of the skull
Our Lord was nailed to the tree
Between thieves He would school
His place was made sure
And a sign told it all
The King of the Jews endured
And above all He stood tall
And below malefactors railed
While His heart melted like wax
His strength was curtailed
From pain that did wrack
His raiment was parted
And lots cast for His coat
And more laughter started
When Christ was parched in His throat
They watched Him hung and torn
And they shot out the lip
Mocking Him to scorn
With vinegar to sip
The heavens closed
He received naught from God
For us He posed
And finished out His call
His body was laid
In a borrowed tomb
His anointment delayed
Till a dawn to resume
The Stone Rolled Away
Matthew 28:6 He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
On the most important Sunday of all
The earth shook and a tomb stone rolled away
Conquering the effects of the fall
The Lord was resurrected on that day
We need not have an angel's voice or trump
That of the first Easter, we can testify...
For already eyes tear and throats form a lump
When we pause to think of Him risen and alive

The Prelude
Isaiah 61:1-2  The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
He taught good tidings unto the meek
As one anointed by God to preach
Healing all those down hearted and weak
He reached each soul, purely to teach
But His mortal life was only a prelude
To when the dead He would free
The atonement, He alone could do
Raising us from captivity
The life of a Jew is but a prelude
To understanding what lies before
As each custom does further allude
To the Savior's role forever more
While pondering the Savior’s coming,
Unto people of Jerusalem-
I have come to find with my whole being
The Old Testament spoke of Him…
Zechariah 9:9… behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass..Zechariah 11:12 And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
Micah 5:1
…they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
Michah 5:2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
Numbers
24:17I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob...
Malachi 3:1; 1Behold, I will
send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me…
Psalm 22:6–8
But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people..All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
Psalm 22:18They part my
garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Psalm 41:9
Yea, mine own familiar
friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
Psalm 69:21They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me
vinegar to drink.
Psalm 72:10 10The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall
bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
Psalm 78:2 I will open my mouth in a
parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
Psalm 109:25I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads. Amos 8:9And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the
sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
Psalm 22:6-18 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thouhast brought me into the dust of death.  For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.  I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Psalm 69:21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Isaiah 6:
9-10 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a signBehold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Isaiah 8:14And he shall be for a
sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Isaiah 9:1-6
Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of MidianFor every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of  PeaceIsaiah 22:23And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.
Isaiah 24: 22And they shall be gathered together, as
prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visitedIsaiah 35:5Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert..Isaiah 40:3The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Isaiah 40: 11He shall feed his
flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
Isaiah 50:6I
gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spittingIsaiah 53:3-12He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his deathbecause he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Isaiah 61:
 1The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
Isaiah
53:3-9 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Proverbs 27:6-9Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Deuteronomy 21:6-9And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:  And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.  Be merciful, O Lord, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel’s charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them. So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the Lord.
Lev. 16: 8, 10,And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat. But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness
Hoseah 11:1 When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

The Captain of the Soul- Invictus/ The Soul's Captain by Elder Orson F. Whitney

Invictus by William E. Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance,
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

The Soul's Captain [The Answer]
by Elder Orson F. Whitney
of the Quorum of the Twelve
Art thou in truth? Then what of him
Who bought thee with his blood?
Who plunged into devouring seas
And snatched thee from the flood?
Who bore for all our fallen race
What none but him could bear.
The God who died that man might live,
And endless glory share?
Of what avail thy vaunted strength,
Apart from his vast might?
Pray that his Light may pierce the gloom,
That thou mayest see aright.
Men are as bubbles on the wave,
As leaves upon the tree.
Thou, captain of thy soul, forsooth
Who gave that place to thee?
Free will is thine — free agency
To wield for right or wrong;
But thou must answer unto him
To whom all souls belong.
Bend to the dust that head "unbowed,"
Small part of Life's great whole!
And see in him, and him alone,
The Captain of thy soul

He's Been There Before

He's Been There Before by Elder Troy Whittle
The alarm bell rings at 6:30, I stumble to my feet
I grab my companions bedding and pull off his sheets
A groan fills the room, is it already time to arise?
It seems like just a second ago I was able to shut my eyes

The morning activities follow- study, prayer and such
When it's time to leave the apartment, you feel you haven't accomplished much
"We have a super day planned," My comp. says with a grin
I lowly utter a faithless breath, "Yeah, if anyone lets us in."

With the word of God and my faithful Schwinn, we ride off in the street prepared to
Face another day of humidity and heat
It's 9:30 in the evening, the day is almost through
My champion and I are riding home not accomplishing what we thought to do

We ride up to the mailbox, hoping to receive a lot
Only to look inside and hear my echo reverberate "air Box"
We go up to our apartment, the day is now complete
The only thing to show for our work is a case of blistery feet

It's past 10:30 p.m. My companion is fast asleep,
Silence engulfs me all about and I begin to weep
In the midst of sadness, I kneel down to pray
I need to talk to father, but I'm not sure what to say

"Oh, Father" I begin, "What happened to us today?
I thought we'd teach somebody, but everyone was away
My hands, my aching hands- worn, hurt and beat;
If our area was any smaller, we'd have knocked every street"

"Why on missions are the days so much alike?
The only difference about today was the flat tire on my bike
Will you send some cooler weather? The heat is killing me
I sweat so bad, it gets in my eyes, it's very hard to see"

"Why do I have to wear a helmet, isn't your protection enough?
People always laugh at me, and call me stupid stuff
Please send us investigators so I may give them what they lack
I want to give them Books of Mormon, the weight of them hurts my back"

"And what about my family: They don't have much to say
I'm sick of not hearing from home day after day after day
Oh Father, Why am I here am I just wasting time?
Sometimes I just want to go home, I'm sorry but that's on my mind"

"My companion, Heavenly Father, what are you giving me?
"The way he rides his bicycle, I don't think he can see
Now you have it, I can't go on, I don't know what to do
That, my Father in Heaven, is the prayer I have for you"

My prayer now finished, I stand up, then jump right into bed
I need my rest for tomorrow, we have another long day ahead
Sleep start to overtake me, I seem to drift away
Then it seems a vision takes me to another time in another day

I'm standing alone on the hill. The view is very nice
A man walks to wards me and says, "My name is Jesus Christ"
Tears of joy well up inside, I fall down to His feet
"Arise," He states, "Follow me to the shade. You and I need to speak"

My attention's towards my Savior, total and complete
He says, "Your mission is similar of what happened to me
I understand how you feel, I know what you're going through
In fact, it would be fair to say I've felt the same as you"

"I even know how you felt when no one listened to you
At times I felt not quite sure what else I could do
I know you don't like to ride a bicycle, for you a car would be sweet
Just remember the donkey I rode wasn't equipped with 21 speeds"

"I understand you don't like sweating, in fact it's something you hate
I remember when I sweat blood from ev’ry pore, oh the agony was great!
I see you don't like your companion- you'd rather have someone else-
I once had a companion named Judas who sold my life for wealth"

"It's hard to wear a helmet and have people make fun of you
I remember when they put thorns on my head and called me King of the Jews
So you feel burdened down by the weight of your pack
I recall how heavy the cross was when they slammed it on my back"

"Your hands hurt from tracting and knocking on doors all day
I guess when they pounded nails into mine, I ached in a similar way
It's hard not to hear from home when your family's not there to see
I lost communication on the cross and cried, "Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

"We have a lot in common, but there's a difference between us you see
I endured to the end and finished my mission, so follow and do like me"
He embraced me with His arms and His light filled me with His love
With tears in my eyes I watched as He went back to the Father above

I stood with awe and wonder when a beep rang in my head
I listened and heard the alarm, then realized I was in my bed
My companion let out a groan, "6:30 already, no way!"
I sat up and said, "Come on, I'll even carry your scriptures today!"

No matter what we go through, when we feel we can't take more
Just stop and think about Jesus Christ, He's been there before

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

These poems are my own thoughts and impressions as I study the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints

I encourage you to read from the Book of Mormon and the standard works, and listen to modern day prophets, also, that your mind and heart might be touched.
