Relief Society- She Gives Relief to the Poor

She gives relief to the poor
The needy and the distressed
For souls she does so much more
According to how she's impressed

She knows a heavenly mandate
Has been given to her to lead
Women of the world to a more divine state
Through her grand example indeed

As evil and darkness threaten
She holds her lamp brightly lit
And speaks of God in heaven
That she and others will profit

I'm visiting teaching today-
thoughts from:
From Our History
At a June 9, 1842, meeting of the Relief Society, the Prophet Joseph Smith taught the sisters that their society was “not only to relieve the poor, but to save souls.” 1 This statement of a spiritual as well as a temporal purpose has characterized Relief Society throughout its history. In 1906 President Joseph F. Smith (1838–1918) taught: “[Relief Society] has not only to deal with the necessities of the poor, the sick and the needy, but a part of its duty—and the larger part, too—is to look after the spiritual welfare and salvation of the mothers and daughters of Zion; to see that none is neglected, but that all are guarded against misfortune, calamity, the powers of darkness, and the evils that threaten them in the world.” 2 In 2001 Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles reiterated, “Every sister in this Church who has made covenants with the Lord has a divine mandate to help save souls, to lead the women of the world, to strengthen the homes of Zion, and to build the kingdom of God.” 3

Apply Unto It

Apply unto it
What cometh of God
Heed the Spirit
And give it your all

Apply unto it
What cometh of light
Don't idly sit
You know it is right

Earth

Sphere, rotate, orbit
Round and round far and near
Our planet makes a circle
365 days in a year

What Stirs the Soul?

What stirs the soul
And causes it to burn?
Ever we feel whole
When to God we turn

A Mother is

A mother is as soft as a rose
Her kiss tickles my wee nose
Her sweet lullabies tenderly teach
As her eyes speak of love with each

A mother is as warm as a throw
As a snuggle safe to know
On her lap her arms wrap me up close
And I stay awake...well almost

Easter- What a Glorious Time of the Year

Easter- what a glorious time of the year
As Christians celebrate everywhere
That our Lord rose triumphant from the tomb
And for each of us, in His heart, there is room

He having felt each sin and sorrow
Is our reason to hope on the morrow
He knowing the pain of death and separation
Is our Redeemer and Author of our salvation

Gordon B. Hinckley
The Victory over Death
Liahona, Apr 1997, 3

What a glorious time of the year is Easter! Easter is the day when we, with Christian people everywhere, celebrate the most significant event in human history—the Resurrection from the grave, the return to life from death, of the Son of God. Among all the facts of mortality, nothing is so certain as its deathly end. How tragic, how poignant is the sorrow of those left behind. The grieving widow, the motherless child, the father bereft and alone—all of these can speak of the wounds of parting.

The Miracle of Easter

The miracle of the first Easter
Is a glorious joy to find
How this makes death easier
For the souls of all mankind

This is the most reassuring event
In all of human history
He took up His body and came forth
Easter is a celebration of victory

Two Beautiful Messages of Easter

Two beautiful messages of Easter-
There really will be life after death!
We can return to live with our Father!
Once our flesh resurrects with new breath

On Easter we give thanks to our Lord
Who suffered for all of our sins
Who took upon Him the pains of the world
That we might return to our Father again

Two beautiful statements at Easter-
I can prepare for the day that I die!
I can return to live with our Father!
And dwell again in His presence on high

Thoughts from President Howard W. Hunter's talk:
Evidences of the Resurrection
Ensign, May 1983, 15

" It is truly a beautiful message- there will be a life after death; we can return to live with our Father in Heaven once again, because of the sacrifice the Savior has made for us, and because of our own repentance and obedience to the commandments."

In the Afterglow of Easter

In the afterglow of Easter
My Spirit stands refreshed
In the Light of the Resurrection
Our Redeemer's Wondrous gift

Gone is the night of darkness
For Death now holds no fear
In my flesh I' ll rise to meet Him
When my Resurrection Morn is here

As Time Goes By

As time goes by
What have we to hold
The love of family
Is richer than gold

The meaning of life
Comes of being who you really are
Through trial and strife
And following that homeward star

With Every New Chord in Praise

With every new chord
I felt his passion rise
While singing of our Lord
He brought tears to my eyes

Pondering the Savior's Second Coming

Pondering the Savior’s second coming,
How He will come before Jerusalem-
I came to desire with my whole being
To learn of His life and prepare for Him

Looking to the past to find the future
I searched the Old Testament
Letting prophecy be my tutor
To understand whom God had sent

Zechariah 14:4And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east...

In Fulfillment of the Old Testament The Lord

Pondering the Savior’s second coming,
How He will come before Jerusalem-
I came to desire with my whole being
To find fulfillment in the Old Testament

Zechariah 9:9… behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass..Zechariah 11:12... And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. Micah 5:1 …they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek. Numbers 24:17 ...I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob...Malachi 3:1...Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me… Psalm 22:1- 17...My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people..All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts. I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly. Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.Psalm 22:18...They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. Psalm 41:9...Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. Psalm 69:21...They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Psalm 72:10...The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. Psalm 78:2... I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Psalm 109:25....I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads. Amos 8:9....And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: . Isaiah 6:9-10...And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed. Isaiah 7:14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 8:14And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. Isaiah 9:1-6Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian. For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 22:23...And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house. Isaiah 24: 22...And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited. Isaiah 35:5...Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert..Isaiah 40:3...The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Isaiah 40: 11...He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Isaiah 50:6... I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. Isaiah 52:14... 14 As many were astonished at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men Isaiah 53:3-12...He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.¶Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.¶Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 61: 1...The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; Isaiah 53:3-9 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. ¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. The Lord hath anointed me…to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives…to comfort all that mourn…to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…” (Isaiah 61:1-3)Proverbs 27:6-9...Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. Deuteronomy 21:6-9...And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley: And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. Be merciful, O Lord, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel’s charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them. So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the Lord. Lev. 16: 8, 10...And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat. But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.

Zechariah 14:4...And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east...

Open My Eyes That I May See

A little girl in her new Easter dress
Covered her eyes as though a princess
Not to ignore, but in fun to play
Hide and see in a peek a boo way

And for her I sang a special song
As a single tear trickled along
Memories spilled of a yester year
To flow upon me all so clear

My mothers voice and her piano
As she rejoiced, her face all aglow
Now my eyes have opened and I can see!
T'was love she had been sharing with me!

An oldy to remember
Open My Eyes, That I May See
Clara H. Scott, 1841-1897

Open my eyes, that I may see
glimpses of truth thou hast for me;
place in my hands the wonderful key
that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear
voices of truth thou sendest clear;
and while the wavenotes fall on my ear,
everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my mouth, and let me bear
gladly the warm truth everywhere;
open my heart and let me prepare
love with thy children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!

What Part Have I Played?

What part have I played
In the suffering of the Son?
What price for me was paid?
So heavy the ransome

If I were to put myself
In this traveler's place
And carry the cross to help
I'd have this blood upon my face!

So thankful I am
That this day came to pass
Now to await the lamb
When He will come, finally, at last!

They Stood at the Door

They stood at the door
Knowing what was in store
A large mob was storming
And not for informing...

They looked at each other
Brother to brother
The spirit was there
They were fully aware

His role to witness
How- though death arrived
God was not finished

The gospel is true
And continues on
Each sacrifice proves
With God we are strong

James Helped His Small Brother

James helped his small brother
Across the ice and snow
A storm came like no other
Causing new winds to blow

Without any lamp
It was dark when he found
His waiting camp
And collapsed, dead, to the ground

Out of love, he could not
Leave his brother behind
To his last breath he fought
For what strength he could find

A War Torn Nation

This is an inspiring request
That can do nothing but bless
Our nation...under God
This call is for all..

A war torn nation
Called for organization
At a set time each day
All this group did was pray

Following Winston Churchill's lead
We can do this too
For our country is in need
Of calling upon God anew

I received this tonight from a friend in New Jersey. I think it is a good idea.
Subject: Evening Prayer Together...where two or three are gathered together in
my name.

Evening Prayer

Someone has said that if Christians really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. Did you know that during WWII there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every day at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England , its people and peace? There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America . If you would like to participate: Every evening at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (8:00 PM Central) (7:00 PM Mountain) (6:00 PM Pacific), stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our government, our troops, our citizens, and for a return to a Godly nation. If you know anyone else who would like to participate, please pass this along. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have.

Please forward this to your praying friends.

A Testimony Borne Today

A testimony borne today
Can quickly fade away
It must be nourished with light
Sprung from faithfulness bright

A testimony made can grow
Bright and warm like the sun
Setting the spirit aglow
Or diminish away to none

A testimony is as fragile
As capturing a beam of light
It is only there to handle
When you align yourself just right

thoughts from:
“The testimony you have today will not be your testimony of tomorrow. Your testimony is either going to grow and grow and grow until it becomes as the brightness of the sun, or it is going to diminish to nothing, depending on what you do about it.”
Harold B. Lee

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Testimony isn’t something you have today, and you are going to have always. A testimony is fragile. It is as hard to hold as a moonbeam. It is something you have to recapture every day of your life.”

Elder D. Todd Christofferson - "As Many As I Love, I Rebuke and Chasten"

Who will abide a celestial glory
And dwell in the presence of God?
One with an enduring testimony
Living the highest expectations of all

Jesus proposes to make us holy
Bearing the ability to transform
He can prepare us- perfectly- He only
Offerig His help in many forms

He will see that we each receive
All the comfort and support that we need
Chastening us when in the Spirit we grieve
Raising us to a higher place in deed

Her Lamp Stays Lit

Her lamp stays lit
Beside the golden door
For each plane and ship
And those along the shore

The Statue of Liberty

Our Heroes

Our heroes to admire
Do the day to day
They're who employers hire
For the ethics they display

Pilgrims

They crossed the vast and stormy sea
Self-governed and alone
To worship, as one, free
Pioneering the unknown

The Flag was so Big

The flag was so big
It had a life of its own
Ruffling in the wind
As a sail that is flown

Then suddenly, it dropped
And hung close to the pole
For a moment the wind stopped
To then relift the flag up hole

Who moves the wind?
That it freely wave?
The air in the end
Comes from God, save?

There is a Bond- Caring for the dying

There is a bond
Created through this care
That goes far beyond
What in life we share

We are not left alone
To serve, bathe, and feed
For our loved one is known
By the angels indeed

The comfort of angels
Awaits and tends our dead
As life and death dangles
On a very thin thread

Through a fatal disease
Angels come and attend
Helping pain ease
Death IS NOT the end

Thus is this bond
I have heard called sweet
As we feel what's beyond
Heaven and earth DO meet

Now We Lay You Down to Sleep

Though your time here was so small
You left an imprint on this earth.
Ever in my heart I recall
The love I felt from the first.

My sweet infant, how you tried
To survive with every breath.
And with your last... how I cried
Made lonely by your death

Now we lay you down to sleep
To be with God on high
Unto the angels for watch keep.
And it is not goodbye!

For one last picture, here you wear
This sweet and precious gown
Made with love and tender care;
As now, with God, we lay you down.

Dedicated to nowilaymedowntosleep a nonprofit that arranges for a memory photo of small infants, newborns, and still borns. One tangible proof that a precious life did indeed exist.

The final kiss
The last touch
No, I insist
This is too much!

But trust I must
And I let you go
Unto God, thus
His love to know!

Temples are more than stone and mortar
They are built of sacrifice
Through each trial and testimony
They truly are sanctified

Temples are filled with faith and fasting
Even the service of those impoverished

For what's sacred, holy, and cherished

The temple will see us through

That your Family be Filled with Love- the Sabbath

That your family be filled with love
As you honor the Sabbath Day
Let your Saturday be spent thereof
With preparations for that sacrament tray

Being Honest Means to be Sincere

Being honest means to be sincere
At all times and all places
Not just when someone is near
But as the gospel one embraces

Being true to the faith means
To be honest with God, others, and yourself
To recognize God knows all your needs
And is your greatest source of help

Then in so many ways
We experience blessings
To clearly define the grays
And hold to God's teachings

Every darkened hour
He sought to please

Betrayed, denied
Accused, rejected
He was bound and tried
Willingly, unprotected

Reviled, scourged
Mocked, and spit upon
Forgive, He urged
Though He had been wronged

The nails were driven
A sign was displayed
Vinegar was given
Bitterly laid

The heavens then closed
He received naught from God
For us He posed
Answering His lone call

His body was laid
In a borrowed tomb
His annointing delayed
Till a dawn to resume

To those who came
An angel appeared
Then to proclaim
"He is not here"

Resurrected, risen
Now mighty to save
Preparing us for heaven
He opens up each grave
