Venia- Grace

Venia shines with golden thread
Wrapped in enabling fire
Always it shines just ahead
To strengthen and inspire

The Latin Word Venia has many meanings, mainly: grace, indulgence, favor, pardon, forgiveness. http://www.latinwordlist.com/latin-words/venia-33391261.htm

Clarity in Thought

Let your language clearly hold
Connections, strong like glue
Whether written or just told

May you think your thoughts through

Is it possible to demonstrate clarity of thought in both the spoken and written word? Perhaps if you rehearse your thoughts enough?  I think most people need their notes at least in outline form.

Husbandmen

Matthew 21:41They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

I found old notes and rewrote this poem.

A certain man planted a vineyard
With a nice hedge round about
But then as he was called away far
To some husbandmen, he lent it out

One day he sent a trusted servant
To receive from the fruit thereof
But as a "thief" he was badly beaten
By rocks thrown, hard and rough

To keep this property in tact
Again, he sent his best and humbled
Each in turn was attacked
One died, terribly mishandled

Again, was sent another
Then many more, in fact
Each treated worse than the other
To murder next, they vowed to act

Having yet only one Son
The owner sent Him also, last
The husbandmen were glad he'd come

They would welcome Him to trespass

With whips they struck him bloody
Yet, no cries from him were heard
And then his lifeless body
Was cast out of the vineyard

What is the owner now to do?
But destroy these wicked men
Even if this meant His land too?
Yes! He burned the vineyard, then!

The owner had no choice
He came himself... alone
When all was destroyed
He bent and placed a stone

Representing the son, innocent and rejected.
There was no cause to be dismayed.
This chief cornerstone was resurrected!
And a temple, in his name, was made!

Soak in the Privilege

Soak in the privilege
Learn to swim around
Float to reach the edge
Search what can be found

What privileges have you been given?

Time is Running Out

Time is running out
Each minute, every day
Keep the Lord about
He'll call you home someday

I keep hearing dire messages that time is running out and to act now.  The second coming is coming and also Jesus calls people home daily.

The Trap

Empathy 14: A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.
A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her…. a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.
When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.
May you be so fortunate … To be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you.
And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.

Sometimes your life is in peril
As a trap is set for you
Pray to get away from evil
Accept help from others too!

Cancer Is Like the Fighting Ring

A painting of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, combined with the words “Easter week, Thursday: the Garden of Gethsemane.”
Cancer is like the fighting ring
Each treatment can knock you down
We know just what you are needing
And pray that angels surround

Praying for Chuck and one of the those earth angels watching over him. #cancerprayer
Jesus knows the pain that can knock you flat!  An angel came to Him because He prayed. Pray! God will send you the help you need!

Sunday Is the Best

Two young men in suits stand near a sacrament table with their heads bowed while a third offers the prayer for the sacrament bread.
Sunday is the best
Because I can rest
And partake again
Of the Lord, my friend!

The Perfect Suit For Your Next Quest

A conceptual photograph of a young man holding a sword surrounded by armored warriors, paired with the words “Ready or Not.”
The perfect suit
For your next quest
Must hold much fruit
As you'll not rest

With armor thick
And pockets deep
The best fruit pick
Treasure and keep

The battle is on
The enemy won't wait
And you must stay strong
The sacrament's great!

You need increased armor today.
For new strength along the way.
You need the best fruit, that's pure!
You need bread and water for sure!

fruit- love of God= Jesus, the Word
bread and water- atonement= Jesus
We need to have the Savior with us!

Answer?

A group of four young adults wearing backpacks look at a map together while hiking in the woods.
I like to seek the right answer
By figuring out what is best
It's like finding the trail that's sure
And reaching the peak of a quest!

Say a Prayer- God is there

A watercolor illustration of a boy with black hair kneeling by his bed to pray.
A boy kneeling by his bed and praying. From the Children’s Songbook, page 6, “Thanks to Thee”; watercolor illustration by Phyllis Luch.

Pray often
Hearts soften
Love to share
Comes through prayer

As you kneel to pray
Picture in your mind
A smile sent your way
Full of love to find

Why must a man suffer
Though he tries to be good?
We more know the Savior
As we feel gratitude

God answers prayers with love
Tell Him everything
He listens from above
Blessings He will bring

God, why must I suffer
In continual pain?
"Be brave!" was my answer
"You'll soon be home again!"

"Come, soldier....on
Even to the end
For it won't be long.
I'm with you my friend."

"Soldier on to the end.
And know all the while,
Merciful arms extend
As we pray in trial."

Our loving God is as close as a prayer.
Humbly kneel before Him. Trust He is there!
Place prayer at the center of all that you do.
And your heart made tender will touch others too!

Thoughts from the First Presidency Message
September Ensign
"Families and Prayer" by President Henry B. Eyring
He speaks tenderly of finding his father after he had been stuck on his knees, having knelt to pray while enduring the pain of cancer.  He told Henry that he asked why he must suffer when he had tried all his life to be good and God told him He needed brave sons.
I love how this poem
is shaped like a light on a candle stick!

I Am Still a Kid at Heart!

Cattails covered in snow surround a frozen pond, with the sun setting in the background.

I am still a kid at heart
Finding joy in what's around
Daily miracles impart
As you've eyes to see, they're found

I have been to the park in every morning for two weeks.  They had a pump running this morning and were feeding water into a ditch under the railroad tracks.  I had never ventured out there!  There were cat tails!  I have been wanting to show these to my kindergarten class each year as I teach about seeds.  I never would have thought they could be found in the desert!  For the past years my parent's creek has be dry year round and there have not been any!  I love it!  Now the kids can marvel at the blow out of cat tails spreading their fluffy seeds to the breeze.

This picture caught my attention at LDS.org. It seems equally unlikely to see them in a frozen creek as in a desert aquifer.

Beatus

Beautiful, in origin
Is beatus or blessed
"The highest state of the good"
Is just as Jesus said:

Matthew 5:9
aAnd seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
aBlessed are the bpoor in spirit: for theirs is the ckingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that amourn: for they shall be bcomforted.
Blessed are the ameek: for they shall inherit the bearth.
Blessed are they which do ahunger and thirst after brighteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the amerciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the apure in bheart: for they shall csee God.
Blessed are the apeacemakers: for they shall be called the bchildren of God.
10 Blessed are they which are apersecuted for brighteousness’ sake: for ctheirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall arevile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of bevil against you falsely, cfor my sake.
12 aRejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your breward in heaven: for so cpersecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Jesus is Man's Role Model

As the best role model for all men
He is forgiving, hopeful, faithful
A good listener again and again
He understands that life is painful

He sees the beauty in the heart
He is responsible, reliable,
Humbly He knows and does His part,
And most of all He is charitable!

Women don't give up on men!  Jesus is the Way in every way.

Try!

Though you choose to go awry
Your sinful ways won't shut Him out
Patiently He asks, "Again, TRY!"
Repentance is what He's about

I love this truth!

"Even if we’ve been a conscious, deliberate sinner or have repeatedly faced failure and disappointment, the moment we decide to try again, the Atonement of Christ can help us."
—Dale G. Renlund, "Latter-day Saints Keep on Trying"
Topics: Atonement

Picture the most action packed movie.  The good guy never gives up.  He gets bloody.  The odds stack up against Him. You can't imagine how he will get out of the mess. With the Savior, you can be that guy! The atonement is there to get us home, safe,  no matter what, if we let it!

Become Christ-Like

By learning of Him, by believing in Him, by following Him, there is the capacity to become like Him.

I love this tweet!

Learn of Him,
Believe in Him.
Turn to Him,
Achieve through Him,
Follow Him,
Reach for Him,
Allow Him,
Preach with Him.

The Answer is Always CHRIST

The answer is always Christ,
for the home, church, and school.
His Word transforms lives
through a biblical view.

I just listened to my first live stream broadcast.  Dr. Carlton McLeod was invited to speak on Restoring the Biblical Family.  It is the role of parents to put Christ into the home. There is no neutral ground. The family is under attack.
When the father is on board Dr. McLeod's statistics are remarkable.  Through the father's conversion there is 93% retention. Through mom 17% retention and when the child is the first to join a 3.5 % retention for the children in that home.

His Ways are Infinite

A blue background paired with a quote by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf: “You are known and remembered by the most majestic … Being in the universe!”

In just how many ways
Is our Lord infinite?
I should go on for days
But my mind is finite

In His atonement, His power
His perfect submission...
Through the pure love He showers
We gain a small vision

Of His tender mercy, His grace
His compassion and Light
His covenants to embrace
He is the Way, our Bread, our Life!

Behold, great and marvelous are the aworks of the Lord. How bunsearchable are the depths of the cmysteries of him; and it is impossible that man should find out all his ways. And no man dknoweth of his eways save it be revealed unto him; wherefore, brethren, despise not the frevelations of God.

“You are known and remembered by the most majestic, powerful, and glorious Being in the universe! You are loved by the King of infinite space and everlasting time!”—President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Forget Me Not

Weaknesses

Weaknesses are great
For they show you God's hand
As you grow in faith
You further understand

Your speech may be slow
Your writing a jumble
Still work, you will grow!
Believe and be humble!

Moses was slow of speech
And Jacob could not write
Strength was given to each
So they could lead us right

Can you think of many who when called were concerned over their weaknesses?

 Now behold, it came to pass that I, Jacob, having ministered much unto my people in word, (and I cannot write but a alittle of my words, because of the bdifficulty of engraving our words upon plates) and we know that the things which we write upon plates must remain;

Don't Beat Yourself Up

Do not beat on yourself
Or anyone else
We're all in need of help
To be our best selves

Conceive and Achieve by Faith

What the mind can conceive
The body can achieve
God wants to be your partner
Faith takes you that much farther

Heavenly Potential

I'm preparing for the coming of Christ
I'm living the way I know to be right
My race, my family is a gift from Him
As that is the government of Heaven

We once lived with God our Father
There as spirits we could go no farther
We longed to have a body like Him
Life on Earth was sacredly given

What can I give Him back in return
But obedience here as I learn
His plan of happiness is full of light
Through the atonement, Christ leads us aright

He alone knows what I'm capable of
And offers the way on a path of love
He lights my conscience and fills my mind
With purpose and insight, as I seek I find

I've a place, a family, I've gender too
I'm a daughter of Heaven with much to do
My role is to nurture. There is much need!
I've hope for the future and I let Christ lead!

What have you sought and found to be true?
I hope that you know God can speak to you!
In you there is greatness. I hope you know!
We've Heavenly potential. How we must grow!

A Tongan Honest Sabbath Midnight to Midnight

The first country to greet the Day

At midnight they turn commerce away
To rest, and attend church by the hundreds

Tonga is remembering to keep the Sabbath day holy. It is significant that the first country in the world to greet the holy Sabbath keeps the Sabbath holy. ... Maybe the world cannot see his blessings, but in the ways that really count, he has  ..

Everyday life is heavily influenced by Polynesian traditions and especially by the Christian faith; for example, all commerce and entertainment activities cease on Sunday, from the beginning of the day at midnight, to the end of the day at midnight. The constitution declares the Sabbath sacred forever.

The World Can Wait

The king shut the gate
On the eve before the Sabbath
Yes, the world can wait
Make it more than just a habit

Nehemiah 13:19
And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the Sabbath day.

The First Sabbath Day in the Salt Lake Valley

It was a hot July
When the first Saints arrived
And on the Sabbath day
Of shade they were deprived

Some sat on the dirt or a rock
While others just stood
They partook, Brigham Young spoke.
They rested.  They could!

Imagine: They arrived on Saturday.  The men went right to work, even before eating a meal,  preparing to plant a late harvest.  Winter would be coming and there was no food.  Still they stopped and observed the Sabbath.
The expectation and commitment to keep the Sabbath was made from day one in the Salt Lake Valley.
