It was a hot July
When the first Saints arrived
And on the Sabbath day
Of shade they were deprived
Some sat on the dirt or a rock
While others just stood
They partook, Brigham Young spoke.
They rested. They could!
Imagine: They arrived on Saturday. The men went right to work, even before eating a meal, preparing to plant a late harvest. Winter would be coming and there was no food. Still they stopped and observed the Sabbath.
The expectation and commitment to keep the Sabbath was made from day one in the Salt Lake Valley.
