Jesus Didn't Secretly Celebrate Vengeance

Jesus didn't secretly celebrate

When an enemies ear was cut off

Perfect, He held no place for hate

Gently, He healed with compassion soft

Pure love was in Him, in every thought

This is not the time to be rash

you'll grow cankers that slowly heal

Of all your sufferings, confess

The atonement is ever real

Vengeance is mine," sayeth the Lord

We can trust Him to set things right,

Even if not in the way that we think

Then we can move on and not in bitterness sink

As line upon line to the Word we link

This is the best time to abide

And connect to the Spirit, to heal

Of all your frailties confide

The atonement is ever real

Always He holds on to hope that we

Might seek Him for a new beginning

Even the worst of souls, He seeks

To help them find how to turn from sinning

His love for us is transforming

This is the best time to forget

And trust in God's plan for you

Let go of the dark wishes you hold in secret

The atonement is ever real

So many movies show vengeance. Drawing the viewer in not for justice, but to secretly celebrate demise when a bad guy gets beat up, tortured badly, during an arrest.

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves…: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord (Romans 12:19).

"So forgiveness doesn’t mean that we are okay with crimes going unpunished. It simply means that we are humble and respectful enough to recognize that we may not be the appropriate person to administer the punishment. If we can trust the Lord to set everything right, then we can move on and leave our bitterness and anger behind.

Today, I will remember that vengeance belongs to God. I will be grateful that I have the freedom to forgive, because I know that God will establish perfect justice in the end. I will focus my attention on constructive activities—building, serving, and healing—not on forcing others to pay a price for their errors."
