Authority

The young boy wore the costume
Of a policeman with a badge
And he thought others would assume
There was authority that he had

He walked around all day
Waiting for some action
There was naught which came his way
Save the cat which was a distraction

Authority has to be given
Through order, oath, and award
It can't just function self-driven
For it sets one apart as a steward

What does it mean to be baptized
Into the true church by one of authority
That as a new creature we change our lives
By making our covenants a top priority

With this promise we can then go forth
Doing as we're sent out to do
With strength only faith can afford
From weekly recommitting all anew

thoughts from the adult session of our stake conference
