The Sacrament

Was I not here just yesterday?
To renew covenants as I prayed
How oft I fall short in my oath
What am I that I should now boast?

When sorrow comes I know not rest
Then I remember what's at breast
The words of Christ lend to me faith
His love comes through what He hath saith

On the day Christ was crucified
God's love for man was not denied
All of His blood that could was gone
And with pure love this gift was done

With the water and with the bread
I think of His life and not death
He freely loves us though we sin
He freely gave us our ransom

How easy it is to forget
His spirits there if I'd just let
He's sufficient for all my needs
And shows me the way as He leads

He said to all "come follow me"
Now humble, I have come to be
Each day may I read and not shy
Then for God's treasures I will cry

May I have faith to fight with might
To serve my Lord and do what's right
May I repent, full of remorse
This till I've finished my life course

Matt. 19: 21
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect,
go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor,
and thou shalt have treasure in heaven:
and come and follow me.
Jacob 3: 2
2 O all ye that are pure in heart, lift up your heads
and receive the pleasing word of God,
and feast upon his love; for ye may,
if your minds are firm, forever.
2 Tim. 4: 7
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished
my course, I have kept the faith:
