Fasting- A Command

Fasting is a command of the Lord

He having modeled it Himself

Spiritual strength in Him poured

Thwarting Satan's temptations dealt

Fasting frees the mind to be alert

And the heart to feel more deeply

Feeling closer to our Father

Reverently and humbly

Fasting, the going without

Offers you the means to give

What you would have spent- hand out

For the poor to better live

All that we have comes from above

He inspires us with His Light anew

Feeling an extra portion of love

As you fast

His spirit pours upon you

Answers come

A spiritual feast

Troubles calm

Settled in peace

D&C 88:76 Also, I give unto you a commandment that ye shall continue in prayer and fasting from this time forth.

118 And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.

  119 Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God;

120 That your incomings may be in the name of the Lord; that your outgoings may be in the name of the Lord; that all your salutations may be in the name of the Lord, with uplifted hands unto the Most High.

121 Therefore, cease from all your light speeches, from all laughter, from all your lustful desires, from all your pride and light-mindedness, and from all your wicked doings.

I kept having the thought that this fast Sunday I felt an extra portion of the spirit. Have you ever felt that way?  I have also felt the opposite.  Seeing tears that I do not understand.  Maybe those times I wasn't in the space of mind for it?  It makes me appreciate the times that I do!
