Line Upon Line

[Verse 1] Shall He smooth our paths Wherever we go? So sorrow and trouble We might never know? Shall He bless us first Before we ask? That we not miss the burden Or the sweat from the task? [Pre-Chorus] Oh, may we ever have A prayer in our heart Wishing and wanting What the Lord would impart Yet minds and hearts Will overflow We only learn Line upon line we know [Chorus] Line upon line What He would have us know Line upon line He teaches us to grow Line upon line We learn to trust His way Line upon line Till the light of perfect day [Verse 2] He gives us trials And pain on this earth To know the joy And beauty of our birth He gives oppositions That we must face To prepare us To embrace His grace [Pre-Chorus] May we submit To all we're given here to learn Stay humble ever seeking For the things we discern Yet minds and hearts Will overflow We only learn Line upon line we know [Chorus] Line upon line What He would have us know Line upon line He teaches us to grow Line upon line We learn to trust His way Line upon line Till the light of perfect day [Bridge] As through God We live with borrowed breath We know the day will come We’ll experience death Pray the Lord comes To receive us triumphant With outstretched arms Welcoming outward and bent [Chorus] Line upon line What He would have us know Line upon line He teaches us to grow Line upon line We learn to trust His way Line upon line Till the light of perfect day [Outro] Oh may we ever have Clean hands and pure hearts Prepared come what may To sing How Great Thou Art Our greatest gift Comes from our God above Our life for learning Toward eternal love

D&C 128: 21
21 And again, the voice of God in the chamber of old Father Whitmer, in Fayette, Seneca county, and at sundry times, and in divers places through all the travels and tribulations of this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! And the voice of Michael, the archangel; the voice of Gabriel, and of Raphael, and of divers angels, from Michael or Adam down to the present time, all declaring their dispensation, their rights, their keys, their honors, their majesty and glory, and the power of their priesthood; giving line upon line, precept upon precept; here a little, and there a little; giving us consolation by holding forth that which is to come, confirming our Hope!
