Panic

It is known that sheep will panic
At the slightest scary sound
They'll look to the shepherd and check
How safety can be found

I am reading "The Lord is My Shepherd" by Robert J. Morgan. He talks about how a shepherd watches over the sheep at night and when the howling of coyotes start up, all the sheep wake up and turn to the shepherd. In the light of the campfire you can see thousands of glowing eyes aimed at him. The sheep know where to look for safety.
