Surrender to God

Only in complete surrender
Do we rise above selfishness
Only then are we more tender
With Christ lighting our consciousness

May we rise above the sordid
And avoid the pull of nature
May we think of what the Lord did
And spiritually grow mature

Just as we die when the spirit leaves
So too our spirit dies when we shut out God
When we're wicked- how our spirit grieves
Let's abandon our worldly facade

There's something superior in our ability
As we see we've each a great work to do
We become His miracles when we've humility
When we, like Gideon, believe and follow through-

He had but three hundred men
To fight off the army encompassed
But, with the spirit of the Lord in him
Ability to save Israel did come fast

You will achieve beyond your dreams
If you avoid the evil edge
Act for yourself, with celestial esteem
And be strong and valiant in your pledge

Acting for Ourselves and Not Being Acted Upon
James E. Faust
Ensign Nov. 1998, 45

Judg. 6: 15
And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

Judg. 7
Gideon’s army is reduced to 300—They frighten Midianite armies with trumpets and lights—Midianites fight among themselves, flee, and are defeated by Israel.
