Letting a Child Go Early

Letting a child go early
Sets them a topsy turvy
But holding on too long
Weakens what could be strong

A moment of decision
Requires much faith and vision
And a child needs an example
For self efficacy to sample

A parent must model
And also not coddle
With a balance of the two
Comes the wings for flights to new

Help each child seek and plan
Their own path to pursue
One where they are stretched and
Grow in pride for what they do

After listening to Dr. James Dobson
The Focus on the Family

[Verse 1] Letting a child go early Sets them a topsy turvy But holding on too long Weakens what could be strong A moment of decision Requires much faith and vision And a child needs an example For self efficacy to sample [Pre-Chorus] A parent must model And also not coddle With a balance of the two Comes the wings for flights to new [Chorus] Wings for flights to new Wings for flights to new A child can learn to choose And grow in pride for what they do [Verse 2] Help each child seek and plan Their own path to pursue One where they are stretched and Grow in pride for what they do A step, then another A reach, then a try When they meet the wide world They can stand eye to eye [Pre-Chorus] A parent must model And also not coddle With a balance of the two Comes the wings for flights to new [Chorus] Wings for flights to new Wings for flights to new A child can learn to choose And grow in pride for what they do [Bridge] Not too close, not too far Just enough to guide Give them room to stumble Give them room to rise [Chorus] Wings for flights to new Wings for flights to new A child can learn to choose And grow in pride for what they do
