I Went to Sit in the Chapel

I went to sit in the chapel
While no on was there
To be alone with my troubles
And with the Lord them to share

And, while I was praying
I thought upon a song
This sacrament hymn lifted me
With that for which I did long

As never before
The words meant so much
I clung to each sweet phrase
As to my soul they did touch

The sacrament's meaning
Became dearer to me
As the love of our Lord
Became clearer to see

What could be more pressing
Than to have His Spirit close?
Alone, I expressed my thanks
Then wiped my eyes and arose
