He Took Bread and Gave Thanks

He took bread and gave thanks
As He spoke to edify
With the dead He'd join the ranks
Though betrayed, He'd not defy

He taught of remembrance
And they partook of the bread
As a sacred ordinance
Then He spoke of what He'd shed...

In a cup, He poured drink
He spoke of His testament
And then did their hearts sink?
As they thought of what He meant

May we too now partake
And ponder the sacrament
All our sins to forsake
May we be proved repentant

We witness, we have faith
That sins are removable
As we heed what He saith
May we be immovable

Luke 22
19 ¶ And he took bread, and gave thanks,
and brake it, and gave unto them, saying,
This is my body which is given for you:
this do in remembrance of me.

20 Likewise also the cup after supper,
saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood,
which is shed for you.
