Slow Patience Smooth Results
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast
Work to improve as habits last
Patient practice opens thought
Freedom notice more can be taught
“Slow is smooth and smooth is fast” is a saying among first responders and the military. It means practicing moving slowly and deliberately without mistakes until it becomes a naturally automatic thing. Movements and behaviors can become muscle memories opening room for other focuses that can be lifesaving.
I think of this with piano playing. First one hand and certain keys and trying to count. Then the other hand and trying to get a measure at a time. This goes on and on until one day the whole piece is memorized and you can talk and listen to someone as you play it. Amazing.
How does this apply to the gospel? Keeping a prayer in your heart continually, listening to the spirit, and acting on promptings as we go about our day. Playing the keys of life- melody, discord, dissonance while carrying on a conversation, a prayer in the heart.
Let the spirit abide
To teach and to lead
With light, He's that guide
Whom truly we need
