I must decrease
And put off the natural man
That God increase
According to His will and plan
John the Baptist said "I must decrease and God must increase." It was time for the Saints to follow Christ and look to Him for leadership. And, then John suffered imprisonment and humiliation in death.
Under Christ's leadership, no one can say Christ is imperfect/ powerless/unknowing/uncaring and use that as an excuse to fall away. Always point to Him for strength, wisdom and direction; in humility and submit to His will, trusting in His plan, authority, power, and wisdom.
